does it really matter if he did. He could have been blowing lines of meth from morning till night it doesnt take away the fact that he could kick the shit out of people.

Good people do drugs too.

Bruce puffed alot of herb, he used it especially when he was about to meditate and utilze concentration techniques before he was about to train or bust a nut.

i saw on a website about bruce lee that said the most weight he could squat was 95 pounds, they also said he did have great upper body strength for his size. but face it, if a grappler got a hold of his scrawney ass hed be in trouble

But with Lee's speed and awesome ability to fight. What grappler could get a hold of him without receiving an ass kicking while attempting to.

Lee's head was as fast as his hands. Even if someone did get ahold of them, It would be like holding on to a leopard on coke.

Not even worth talking about bro's, we'll never fuckin know. IMO Jet Li (sp?) is a really fast dude, lets get him against shamrock and see what happens. Bruce is dead so this topic is dead also. Yes he puffed.

ONE THING I HATE.........WHEN PEOPLE POST BULLSHIT INFORMATION DEFAMING SOMEONES CHARACTER WITHOUT ANY PROOF WHATSOEVER TO BACK UP STATEMENTS.WHY SAY HE DOES DRUGS OR CAN ONLY SQUAT 95 WHICH IS MORE THAN LIKELY BULLSHIT WITHOUT PROVING YOUR RESOURCE.DAMN THAT PISSES ME OFF BECAUSE THATS HOW A LOT OF FALSE RUMORS GET STARTED....YOU ALL SHOULD KNOW BETTER BEING THAT WE CONSTANTLY ARE BAD MOUTHED BY UNKNOWING PEOPLE ABOUT A/S.ALL IM SAYING IS DONT OPEN YOUR MOUTH WITHOUT A TRUTHFUL STATEMENT AND SOMEHOW TO BACK IT UP.

There is a rare condition that has been linked to pesticide spraying and marijuana. However, it is not fast acting and resembles a cross between a slowly fatal form of pneumonia and emphysema. Pulmonary congestion (fluid in the lungs) is the mechanism of death from this disorder and is not sudden like Bruce's death was. That doesn't rule it out though by any means, so it's all speculation from now on.

I've also heard from decent sources that Bruce Lee was becoming proficient in the death touch. What people do not know is that there is a counterpart to Dim Mak that is used for healing purposes. However, the line between the two is apparently very slim. Rumor is that he perhaps was the recipient of one such technique possibly done by himself or someone else.

`It is pretty well documented that some grapplers were able to fairly easily control Bruce lee in his early days in America. Many (including some of Bruces students) have mentioned a time when "Judo" Gene LaBell was discussing martial arts with Bruce and argued a bit over which is better - grappling or striking. to prove his point Gene grabbed Bruce in a head lock and proceeded to run down the streeth with him. This inspired Bruce to study grappling - as Gene was being very nice. He could have just as easily picked his 140 LB asian body up over head and speared him face first into the asphalt smashing his chances of ever being in the movies by turning his face into a bloody piece of hamburger - if he lived. But Gene was good natured and he and Bruce were friends so he was content making his point in good humor. Brandon Lee later studied briefly under Gene becuase of how highly Bruce rated Gene LaBell (who still teaches in las Vegas I believe).

Gene of course is an above average wrestler. he once defeated a world ranked boxer in Salt Lake city and drove the crowd into a riot by standing on the chest of the boxer - whom he choked unconscious.

This is not to detract from Bruce lee. He of course was some inspiration for me growing up. I began studying before Bruce died and remember being very dissappointed when he died. partly because of Bruce I was for a couple of decades a martial arts fanatic - earning a 6th dan recognized in okinawa and Japan and over time appearing in just about every martial arts magazine there is (although I am not a big name)

One other thing - the type of fighting you discuss I do not consider a fight (i.e fist fighting, UFC). They are tough competitions but not really a "fight". A fight is smashing someone in the head with a beer mug full of beer completely shattering the glass leaving only a sharp jagged glass mug handle in your hand - and then stabbing the fallen guy with the broken handle 20-30 times. Or breaking a pool cue over someones head and then stabbing the splintered broken end of the pool cue through his abdomen. Fist fighting some guy is not really a fight - facing some monster whose hyped up on PCP with a 14 inch meat clever - now THATS a fight.

I do think Bruce Lee's "street fights" are embellished a bit - and that might be an understatement. But most of what you say is wrong Sourjerk. Bruce never competed. he demonstrated once at Ed parkers Long Beach International's - as did my instructor. The only competition Lee ever did was a boxing match at St.Francis Xavier school. Also they did not speed up the film - he had to actually slow the techniques down as he would jump between frames (in the 60's).

But you are right, the fascination with Bruce Lee is perhaps underserved. I was fascinated with him as a pre-adolescent and the fascination died hard. After I realized he was not really a well versed martial artist (but what he did know he knew pretty well), nor was he that much of a street fighter compared to many. What he was, was a minority who overcame some very intense prejudice to reach the top of a certain genre of film in a white dominated society. That is actually pretty damn impressive.

As far as street fighters, I have known alot tougher. A friend of mine is half black and half white and grew up in an orphanage in Harlem. Without liftint weights he was really damn big. Use to mug people from behind and if they saw him he slashed their eyes so they could not ID him. I won't stir up the prurient interests in violence but he was one tuff SOB. In the military he had been known on several occassions to pin a guy to the ground by pushing him face down in the dirt and sticking a long knife (bayonet) clean through the guys right rib cage and into the ground, pinning the guy to the ground. He stuck it through their right side, because if he stuck it through the left it would pierce their heart and they would die fairly quickly.

My point? Bruce Lee is worthy of respect for his ability to make a rather silly film category (chop socky action) into an acceptable genre of film, and to be a minority who became a loved household name. Jeet Kune Do as some great martial art.....I don't know. Bruce Lee as a great street fighter - I doubt Lee ever saw someone really hurt bad let alone die. But he is a hero none the less in the obstacles he overcame.
