Cardio at the gym is getting dull, so I'm going to shell out some bones for a Mtn bike.

Money wise, due to gear $ I can only spend around $6-700. A dual suspension would be nice, although I would primarily ride on the streets

Any good recommendations on models, websites, retailers, etc??? This is all pretty new to me as the last bike I rode was about 12 years ago.

Thanks for you help.

I'm a Cannondale yuppie. Can't beat a hardtail. Full Suspension may look nice but it is extremely unnecessary unless you are going to be doing a lot of downhill. For 6-700, i'd look for an aluminum frame also. make sure the components on it are at least XT.

cm, I've been into mtn. biking for a pretty long time, eventually I got the urge a couple months back to start training for a race. Everything went great except one thing,I lost a shitload of lean muscle. Never again, I'll keep to just riding for fun from now on. Anyway, check out the site www.mtbr.com, it has everything you ever wanted to know about mtn bikes with a lot of unbiased reviews. Also check out the marketplace, there are tons of bikes for sale and some good deals. You do not want a full suspension, a hardtail with front is plenty for what your looking for, it's much lighter than a dual and if you want even more cush then get a suspension seatpost. Honestly you will not find a good dually in your price range, look into a light aluminium hardtail. If you have any questions just e-mail me. Good luck

Rear suspension make me feel like i'm on a pogo stick when going up steep inclines.

Bucky you should be able to tighten up your rear,i use my bike for street cadio riding, then adjust my shocks for any off road i might do,and about loosing to much mass do to riding, all you have to do is ride to a pace that best suits your goals, weight loss, cadio what ever. And enjoy the ride.

I like Gary Fisher - he came up with the whole idea anyway.
I like the front shock help with control.
Does take some of you power away by absorbing the bounce. Rear suspension is realy a waste and will get tacking going up hills will take away the bounce.
No suspension bike put more of your power to the ground.
