Welcome lips. I've made a lot of posts on the Women's Dis board about how long and all the specifics. But in a nutshell it was a gradual process - no quick-fix. I've been training with the goal of competing about 3 1/2 years (after my final baby), but I would've gotten their sooner had I not delayed by not eating enough. And yes, I met my hubby in a gym. We do train together, but he doesn't want to compete. So I'm much more into it. Which is a double-edged sword. He understands my desires and passions (because we both share in the lifestyle) but he's not as driven so when there are time constraints, child-care issues, money discussions, etc we don't always agree on the same solution and this makes for some "sticky situations". But that's common to all relationships. Ultimately though, it's all good!

I guess it's kind of neat to have your man live vicariously through you (as opposed to the other way around). He does support me and respects the hell out of me for trying so hard - even when all the odds are against me!

Great photos! we can see that you are dedicated and disciplined. my wife is 35 and we have one child together and she has won the overall in 2 shows (one nat'l qualifier) and won the middleweight class in another nat'l q. it goes to show that there is no excuse for women with children that say that they cant lose the weight and get into shape. its all about discipline,willpower,dedication and desire. good luck.

I agree with the both of you...but......a woman has to want to get in shape "herself" first without the benefit of someone coaching her on because if she is just doing it for someone else, she will never succeed. I guess that goes for men and women. My girlfriend will be entering her first BB show in October. I always remind her that I will help her, but she has to show the desire within also. I am proud of her no matter what she does (BB or not), but at first I thought she wanted to be a BB to satisfy my wants. She quickly corrected my thoughts and made me beleive that she wanted to do it for herself. Like I said before, I am proud of her no matter what.

FlexB - You are 100% correct, the desire does have to come from within. If you do things primarily to satify others you will in all likelihood, be unsuccessful, or if success is achieved, the victory will be hollow at best. However, your goals are so much more difficult (not impossible - just pretty darned near impossible) to attain if you receive little or no positive reinforcement from those who are closest to you.

For all of you men out there who can put your egos aside to help your ladies realize their dreams - I say that is pretty f*^%ing groovy!!! Too many (NOT ALL) can not see past the tips of their own (you fill in the blank) to help another - let alone a female - fulfill her heart's desire.

I'm getting a little away from the support you're guys are talking but my mom is someone who I've been supportive of. She was isn't she greatest health and I've been after her to live a healthier lifestyle. She finally starting paying attention to me. She started working out a eating a better diet and became healthier and made me a little proud. She's 51 years old.

That's great Show. It's nice to see that some people still do beleive in "taking care of their parents" these days. I mean pareants raised our asses so we should return the favor when they get up in age and need a little help taking care of themselves. I told my Mom yesterday that I will never put her in an "old folks home" when she gets older. It's my responsibility to take care of her, and I have no problem with that. I hope your Mom is doing fine Show, she needs your support.

I have been working with my mom the last 3 months in small gym...Something a bit out of the way for her so she doesn't get intimidated...She makes me proud...Though she doesn't think she will get back to the Bikini she wore when my sister and I were kids, I think given enough time she will be....

She's lost over 40lbs since I started training her...needless to say now that My OLD man just moved out if they don't get back together there are always plenty of people noticing her changes....

Felt like sharing that story since things have been rough around the house here

tx/Cguy - I'm sorry to hear about your parents. My parents went through a really ugly thing (hell, the whole 30 years or so was pretty ugly.). I'm doing everything in my power not to repeat the cycle i.e. married a good guy, doesn't drink, do drugs, waste money on stupid selfish shit, and trying to do stuff every day to make my girls and hubby proud.

I don't know what to say to console you or help you out. Take each day one day at a time and become a better person each day. I bet your mom is thankful to have you for a son.

I believe the sexes were created not only to be equal but to compliment each other, In other words to go hand in hand and lift each other ever higher. Seperately they can do wonderful things, but together, combining their strengths I believe that they negate the others' weaknesses and can accomplish anything.
