Are we, as a society, victims of our standard of living? Absolutely. Are we getting fatter year in and year out? Research proves this true. Is the number of obese people in American society appalling? Without a doubt, this is true.

Are fat people stupid, weak willed, or demonic? No. Leave them alone. It serves you no purpose.

Damning the fat to hell elucidates an incredible lack of tolerance. It makes you in the very least close-minded and perhaps down right bigoted. If someone chooses a different value system than yours or perhaps prioritizes things different than you, it does not make them less of a person.

I have several friends who are overweight, not because they can't control themselves, but because they have CHOSEN to focus their energies on non-physical pursuits. They decided long ago that they would rather pursue academic/spiritual interests with their full drive and not worry about the physical. Being fat does not interfere with them becoming the best they can be at what they have CHOSEN to do. They are still passionate, dedicated people whose scopes' vary from yours.

Now, don't get me wrong, there are overweight, out of shape people who are so because of weakness. I will condemn them right along side of the rest of you. You cannot simply look at someone on the beach and declare them worthless, however. You can't do this any more than someone can look at you and declare you a BIGOREXIC ROID-HEAD.

If you want to vilify, vilify those who lack passion and dedication. They are humanities real viruses.

Good points, but I still hate most fat people. Maybe from working at KFC for to long I guess. Some of the things I see there are absolutely appalling.

I don't really mind fat people either. MOst people focus on non-fitness goals anyways. I still though think there is just no excuse for people that are like severely fat, like the people at buffets whos fill up 4 plates of grease and loosen their belt so they can waddle back for a 5th plate...even if you have no particular interest in fitness, I think it is bad to do that sort of disrespect to your body.

IMHO

When the physical interferes with chosen goals, that is a lack of passion. If you become morbidly obese, that can/will interfere with just about any path you choose or goal you set.

The morbidly obese should not be condemned for being obese, but instead, for their lack of passion.

Fat people shouldn't be hated...their behavior should be hated. It is costing the taxpayers at almost every angle. Obesity in this country is getting epidemic. The diseases related to eating everything in sight are contributing to many problems in our healthcare system. Advertising for the fast food chains is on every channel at every commercial interruption---and isn't it about the most frustrating thing to be on a severely carb-restricted diet eating only lean meat and veggies and see a big juicy friggin' plate of food on the t.v.? It really makes me mad sometimes when someone who weighs 200 pounds too much asks me what they can take for weight loss. I sometimes get mad and reply "you can take yourself to the gym 5 days a week in addition to the "fork-down diet"...put the fork down after the first plate full of food". I don't hate obese people, after all, they are just everyday people in need of help. But they have to want help first.
It makes me mad when I see people who are seemingly happy to be fat. I understand that we should love ourselves for who we are, but overeating goes back to what a martial arts teacher once said "all you can control in this world is your own behavior". Overeating can be controlled if they want to. Most of them are too lazy to get up and put the weight on the bar and burn that fat off.
Sorry for the soapbox trip.

i cant stand fat people they smell their disgusting they just repulsify me. why would anyone want to be like that. maybe we need to start asking them questions like how did you get so fat. it's just plain lazyness. if i had my way i would take them and handcuff them to a treadmill. then you get these woman campaigning fat is beautiful. Bullshit fat is ugly and get your fatass out of here go home and eat your twinkies and wonder why your still single and lonely.

Glutiny is one of the seven deadly sins. If you've seen seven you'd know what I am talking about. I considered myself fat but I did something about it. Anybody (excluding med conditions) can lose wieght and become healthy. Im not saying you have to get ripped and fit, just cut down on the junk you eat and get a little exercise, even if its just going for a walk. Choosing to be fat because of other things is bullshit, I know how they really feel and they aren't happy with themselves down deep so they cover it up by saying stuff like that, I know I did. They just need to overcome there defeatist attitude, the only one that owes them anything is themselves, so there is know way that I will feel sorry for them.

I say fuck fat people. They put themselves in the position. You cant be force fed 4 whoppers a day. They suck and should all be sent to a island with nothing but meth on it until they are halfway normal.

I hate fat people, they should all be slaughterd. They have no will power or self control. Dirty fat bastards.

Austin, listen to yourself...

"Choosing to be fat because of other things is bullshit, I know how they really feel and they aren't happy with themselves down deep so they cover it up by saying stuff like that"

How can you possibly profess that? There are plenty of people who are happy with themselves even though they don't meet YOUR ideals.

Also, I will compare fat pictures with you any time you want so do not claim some kind of a greater understanding of the human psyche simply because you were once overweight.

Moe & BackDoc:

Overweight does not equal morbidly obese.

You can be overweight without being a health hazard (well, no moreso than a drinker or smoker, anyway) Also, not everyone who is overwieght is so because they eat 4 whoppers a day and drives around in a minivan looking for the closest parking spot.

I am not arguing the extremes here.

ok. I've been in kick-ass shape. I've also been 100, count em, 100 lbs overweight. I'm now somewhere in the middle.

We're bodybuilders. I think it's only natural that we have a more extreme reaction to fat folks than most people do. After all, turning into those people is our worst nightmare.

As for "choosing to pursue other interests," I prefer the Greek ideal: a healthy mind and body. I look at computr nerds with pale skin, big bellies, unkempt, bedraggled, and I realize these people have no aspiration to a certain quality of life. They don't care hot they look. They don't care how they live, or how they're perceived. They have no respect for themselves. So why should I respect them?

Maybe I'm a sensualist, but I love HAVING a body. And I thank God it's a healthy one. I love that a chain link fence isn't an obstacle, that a mile is not a long distance. I love that I can DO anything I want. And if I can't today then I will tomorrow.

I think the most empowering thing in the world is having one of these amazing machines. Because you can make it look like whatever you want it to. You can make it do whatever you want it to. Sure, there are some limits. But they can always be pushed. Take a Chevy Nova, it's always going to be a Chevy Nova. Take a human body the equivalent of a Nova, train it in whatever discipline you want, and you can turn it into a Lamborghini.

I think that's absolutely incredible. I think it's incredibly liberating. It's the great equalizer. We can be whatever we want to be.
Given that, why would anyone NOT choose this quality of life? Is a cheeseburger really worth not being able to climb a mountain? Or a flight of stairs?! And if you say it is, so be it, but don't ask me to build an elevator or a larger seat for you. When I was grossly fat, I did it to myself. I'm STILL fat. I did it. I'll fix it.

And for the record, this isn't true just of physical pursuits. I have no sympathy for the uneducated. The underacheivers. For anyone in a situation they don't want to be in. Sure, you can't help being in jail. but you can sure help working in an office you don't like. Living in a city you don't like. We all have enormous freedom. So few use it. And that's a damn waste of a fantastic gift.

I understand exactly what you are saying. I, too, was 100lbs overweight (5'8", too) and I simply decided that I enjoyed physical activities too much to stay that way. I personally have trouble empathizing with those who choose different paths in life.

I just refuse to damn them for it.

You can refuse to damn them for it, good job. I am not going to feel sorry for anyone who becomes obese though. Overweight, well there you have most of America, but obese is not right. I don't care if they are not choosing a physical lifestyle. No one has a good reason to be obese. If ever you are too fat to walk without getting winded, something is wrong.

And the deception- look, you never see fat fucks in fast food ads or wolfin' down those ringy dingy dongy snacks. PUC, I think the reasoning behind some of us "hating" fat people is alot to do with the fact that you said yourself, they have a problem down inside themselves! NO, they don't want to be fat, and they never chose to be FAT, but they are the only one that can change themselves. Not you, me,Richard Simons, Bill Phillips or anyone else can do it for those who are fat. People constantly tried to get me to loose weight before and I never did WHY? cause my heart wasn't into it! They have to WANT to do it for THEIR OWN BODY! And "we" feel that "we" do not like them because "we" put out the EFFORT to look good so why can't they?
Instead, most of them want pity from others... this is why most of the people here do not care for them, I don't want to use HATE again cause that is a harsh word.
But I know from my own experiences that IF YOU ARE FAT, ONLY YOU CAN CHANGE YOU, NO ONE ELSE CAN DO IT !!!

About of people have different reasons to do things. People choose to be fit or be average or fat. Hey if they are happy how they are, then so let it be. I am sure everybody have different opinion about things. But as long as there are happy who they are. But if they are overweight and not happy about the weight and fitness they are in then they will change and if they can't change then they have problems. Just my 2 cents.

Look at those children who appear on TV Talk Shows day in and day out. They are on the shows pertaining to Obese Babies...

Now whose fault is it that these small children are weighing in at over 100 lbs, and they aren't even 3 years old yet?
Some do have Major Medical troubles, but over 1/2 of them DO NOT. The parents are fat themselves and just don't care what the childern are eating now a days.
Look they just last week had to make a NEW Body Fat Chart for young children and teenagers because over 80% of them last year were considered OVERWEIGHT for their age ~ gender ~ and Height. What does this tell us about the way Americans are "living healthy" today?

DAMN a new chart? I'm at 10% now, but I wanna break the single digits. Thats pretty fucked up that 3 year olds are weighing in at over a 100 pounds. I didn't break the 100 pound marker till I was bout 12-13. Where is the health of society heading anymore? I attribute some of it to fast food restaurants selling their food so damn cheap. True the shits good, but not everyday.
