TODAY I GOT MY BODYFAT MEASURED AT MY GYM....AT FIRST I DIDNT WANT TO CAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS GONNA READ WHAT I DIDNT WANT IT TO READ....I FOGURED I WAS 8 %.....AFTER WE DID IT AND I FOUND OUT THAT I WAS 5.1% I WAS LIKE JESUS CHRIST!!! I DO FOLLOW MY DIET EXTREMELY AND NEVER EVER CHEAT. AND NEVER EVER MISS A MEAL....GUESS ALL THE READING HAS PAID OFF.MY DIET IS REALLY SCIENTIFIC....MAN IM PROUD!!! IP: Logged |

how did you have it measured? calipers? if so, how many spots did they pinch? i do 9 spots, chest,bi,tri,ab,sup,sub,thigh,kid,calf. it is the most accurate way other than underwater. 5.1 is damn good what is your height and weight? IP: Logged |

Hey 5.1 at 202 and 5'11" is not small. those numbers are almost identical to mine. im 5'11' 210 at 6.2% and have done 4 npc nat'l qualifiers in the LHW class. its all about getting ripped. I was 4.1% at 197 at my last show and i got third becuase i still wasnt ripped enough. IP: Logged |

Matt... I wouldn't say calipers are worthless. They can track progress pretty good, if used properly. You are right that trying to get an accurate "snapshot" BF% with them doesn't work to good. Then again, I don't really know any method that does.

It all depend on whose checking your fat with calipers and the same person must check it everytime. I have found them to be very accurate with believeable results. IP: Logged |

Hydrostatic bodyfat test are the best. However, they are time consuming and expensive. BB's should be checking their bodyfat at least every two weeks...even during the off-season. It would be unrealistic to go to a university every couple of weeks. However, it would be a good reference to do once or twice per year so you could compare your test with the calipers. Calipers average 2-4% off from hydrostatic weighing. I've done at least 3000 bodyfat tests with calipers. The accuracy is good when in the hands of experienced testers. ------------------ IP: Logged |

MR A I have found calipers to be a good indicator of whether or not bf is increasing or decreasing, but it is important to try to use the same person to test you each time. Sometimes that isn't possible, and different types of calipers produce different results. Also, I never said hydrostatic weighing was practical, just the most accurate method. Matt IP: Logged |

Matt: Your correct that it is very important to have the same person check your bodyfat. My suggestion to all of you is to learn how to check your own bodyfat. You can not get many sites but the information is still VALID. Currently, I have to use a three site test because I perform it on myself. Software is available for different body types and different races. It is very important to use a good quality caliper. The plastic one's are ok if your in a bind. However, save some extra cash and get some Lange calipers. They cost about $220 and can be purchased through www.performbetter.com They are not the absolute best, but they are high quality. ------------------ IP: Logged |
