Just wondering how good the chances of getting into the NFL are when you are almost 300lbs (285lbs) and played for State for 3 years as a linebacker. And you're pretty good. What would you guys say? I heard there's almost 300 picks each year. Would that be one of them?

there are a lot of 300lb non-athletic fools out there. It's not the number that makes the athelete....speed, enurance, quickness, strength, intelligence, etc, etc. Good luck though.

if your that big and play college ball at the linebacker spot and have some decent speed I think you have a chance. If you are not a starter though, there aint a chance in hell of being drafted..... and if there isnt then you could always goto a try out camp. But like lorenzo said, you have to have it all.

A linbacker, not too likely, Levon Kirkland is one of the three biggest, if not the biggest backer in the NFL at 280ish...he would be alot better if he lost some weight and got faster...he didnt have such a great year this year, at least not as good as his breakout year two years ago...Physical specimens mean nothing in football, look at Brain Bosworth--Tony Mandarich--Blair Thomas--Rick Mirer--Big Daddy Wilkenson(who is fianlly decent)--Ryan Leaf--these guys looked like theyd be dominators, perfect height, size, looked like theyd be perfect for their positions great college players who showed potential...meanwhile look at Wayne Chrebet, Jerry Rice (believe it or not he went to a small school), Steve McNair, Lance Shulters, (soon you can add Brandon Short of Penn State to this list, he isnt Lavar Arrington or Courtney Brown physically, but he was Penn State's best defensive player this year) etc, when it comes down to it, it doesnt matter about being a good specimen, although youd be correct if you said many players are drafted on potential alone, even if they were not great college players...

Peel off a 3.9 40 and you can do anything you want. Then overhead press 225 about 25 times. Don't forget to deepsquat 575 on your way out.

Fuck it if u have been playing linebacker at close to 300 in college, then u must have very good agility and speed. If you are an athlete they will find somewhere for u to play, shit maybe de or something

Size will get you into college, but pure talent is what gets you into the NFL. There are two types of players in the NFL.

1. The ones with talent + work ethic.
2. The ones with an INSANE work ethic.

The game is so fast, I doubt if a 300lb linebacker can do much at the NFL level. They would probably try moving you to DE or something, if your good.

3.9 40 for a linebacker, not in the NFL. Maybe as a DT. 300 is too big for a linebacker, no way you can be fast at that size(yeah there is probably some exception, but not the norm). I'll ask Lavar for you, I see him at the bars all the time.

Deion Sanders' 40 time went up from his 3.9 to 4.26. Still good but ain't Deion. Joey Galloway's got it this year 4.13. As for linebackers, gotta give to my favorite line backer, Dexter Coakley 4.45. The guy weighs 225 and is fast as hell. I dont know if a 300 pound man could do that, but ya never know.

Joey Galloway is a fast motherfucker. Deion's fastest time at FSU was 4.21. Laverneus Coles broke it a year ago with a 4.16. Of course, tha twas on a fast track.

If Coles can learn to run routes and catch the ball, he will be awesome...I read that he ran a 4.16 aswell, even if it is a little bit off, it is still insane speed...What college does this 285 pound backer play for? And is this you or are you just asking hypothetically?

Bro,

How many of you guys are NFL talent scouts? I'm guessing zero. So Jay-Z, why are you asking the board?

If you or whomever you are speaking of plays for MSU, there are people around who can answer that question. You posting it here leads me to believe you are full of shit.

There is no such thing as a 3.9 40 yard time. Not right now anyway. Ben Johnson's 9.79 in the 100 meters (disallowed by positive steroid test) was calculated to be a 3.93 40 yarder.

At the combines, they test the 40 with an electronic timer, like the one used in professional track events.

Coles's 4.16 (as well as Deion's 4.21) were measured with hand held stopwatches. The fastest time ever at the combines was 4.28, by Deion. So claims of 4.2 speed, etc., are according to a coach with a watch.

Jay-Z, why don't you stick with football people for football advice?

Matt

what is this dude's name, if he plays at a big-time school like MSU, and he is that frikkin big, there's no way a person who follows college ball wouldnt know about him...especially if he got playing time at that size, he'd be in sports illustrated or something...unless he is a freshman or something like that...I dont mean to be a dick, just wanna understand this whole thing

Ok in my opinion i notice a trend, that trend is that people who are bb are into bb, but yet some guys i see post about football when they actually know nothing about it, Jay Z if u knew about football u would not ask this question, People who play the game or know it, know what goes on and the type of shit it really takes. From my expierence (not my own),the fact some guys juice does not make them ballers. You have to be a player, play the game at a high level. As for fans who know their shit i mean no harm by this post.
