The post about bodybuilders being gay or not created a lot of attention. This post is not intended to either support or vilify homosexuality. I myself tend to make jokes occasionally about it but I do not dislike homosexuals. I let them do their thing and I do mine. My question is whether you all think that it is something that people are born with or if it is a choice people make? I think it is genetic. IP: Logged |

for sure chatroom, but I think it has to do with our evolution. The other species do it so why wouldnt we. Not all members partake in the practice, but some do. I agree on both counts. This belongs in the chat room. Maybe one of the mods will move it. It's genetic. There was a news story recently about Drs. that discovered a minute difference in one section of the brain in gays. Maybe upbringing has something to do with it but my vote is on genetics. I tend to avoid subjects such as these, but here's my .02: There exists NO other members of the animal kingdom which practice homosexuality, other than humans. There may very well be a genetic malfunction and I say malfuction because the reproductive system has a defined purpose which is to procreate. Enough said. IP: Logged |

In my opinion, there is only one reason we, or any other living species, exists and that is to keep the species alive. To procreate as someone else stated it. If that is true, then being gay must be a mistake of nature. It serves no purpose that I can think of, (not that I think alot about this stuff). I also believe in equal rights for all, but I think recognizing gay couples as being married is taking it too far. It burdens society financially. And I don't care what they do behind closed doors but we pay enough taxes already for too many social programs, we don't need any more. We can't afford anymore. Ditto for the funding spent on AIDS research. Many more people suffer from cancer, heart disease etc. which for the most part are uncontrollable. Let's spend the money on more research in those areas. AIDS is preventable if individuals use common sense. Sorry about the rant. I had a rough day at work and just got home! Ok I know the answer to this. I am not prejudice about any minority group at all, so I dont want those to take it the wrong way. If God specifically said that homosexuality is a sin, then he would not or did not ever create gay people. He wouldnt do something like that. There are no such things as gay people, there are those that want to be different, like the people that walk down the street with hot pink hair. They just want to be different, that is all. Also if it werent for gays there wouldnt be an AIDS epidemic today. They brought that shit on the world, I cant believe more people arent pissed about that, considering God didnt make homosexuals. ok...here is my .02 First off, Curious, you 2 damn funny!! I still be laffing!!! also, i disagree with the statement that it is genetic. I think it is more pychological. Not necessarily abnormal just "a-natural". that said, i dont see any reason to disallow someone the persuit of their happiness...whatever it may be. Whether it is one man smoking another man pipe or a woman doing a little tuna tasting. to each his own. Even to the extent that marriges between same sex couples be allowed. Govenrment shouldnt have right to say whom can marry whom, just as they dont have the right to say what we can do with/to our own bodies (i.e. AS). whewww!!! that rant felt good. IP: Logged |

denmaur, finally a reasonable argument based somewhat on logic and not on stupidity. I respect that argument and here in California we had a prop. that was up for votes asking for same sex marriages, made me think alot about it, seems like you cant be cool with it if you are Catholic (I am), when it comes right down to it. If you believe in God then you believe the chief function of sex is to procreate, all religion is based on that hence-no homosexual relationships, no contraceptives, and no abortions are tolerated by Catholicism. This topic confuses me as, on one hand, I know some good friends of mine that are gay, and they seem like good people to me; but on the other my religion says es no bueno. wouldn't have expected this topic/discussion today when I logged onto Elite. There is no right or wrong answers here, just opinions. As far as the brain of gays being different, that can be argued. Behaviorists will say that homosexuality is a learned behavior and can be unlearned. But look at it this way also, how many of you guys dig it when you watch two women go at it? Is it right for them and wrong for men? Men are aggresive by genetic nature and women are much more passive. Men would rather be dominant than dominated. I think gay behavior espouses a certain domination and blow to the male ego. As far as the comment that gays brought AIDS into this world is wrong. AIDS knows no boundaries my friend. The problem in the gay lifestyle in that it is very loose . For example, one of my professors who is not gay went to a gay bar with a gay freind. His friend disapeared for like an hour. He finally found him and lo and behold he was doing another guy. My proffesor then asked him later, why were you gone for so long. He had sexual contact with at least ten other men in that hour. My proffesor then asked him if he does that all the time. The gay freind then replied only on a bad night, meaning that a good night meant sexual contact with at least 25 or 30 men. Go figure. It's most likely a combo of genetics and environment, however I think evolution did play a part in it. If you think about they way we were before civilization, a man's number one goal is to survive and have children. However, a "leader" of a tribe would prefer that the secondary males in his tribe NOT mess with his women and compete with him. Therefore, there would be an evolutionary advantage for a human alpha male to associate himself with gay secondary males. The alpha male would have the advantage of having other males to help fight and survive, and the advantage of impregnating more women without fear of internal competition in his tribe. OK, I thought about it a little more. What do you think about this. There are probably many reasons why someone turns out gay. There are usually many reasons for anything and few things that can be explained with one simple answer. Genetics must play a role. Look at what Sscris1 just said. He doesn't sound like someone who woke up one morning and decided he wanted to be gay. He sounds to me more like someone who has to deal with a part of himself that he didn't choose and doesn'treally understand. Maybe in his case it's like an addict (no offense). Science claims that addictions are genetic. I've seen some and they sure don't seem happy with their condition. In fact most struggle with their addition their entire lives. If they could change they would. On the other hand there are the stories about homo rapes in prison because the prisoners have no other release. Then when they get out of prison they go hetero again. Maybe when some people are young and start having sexual urges they are too uncomfortable around the opposite sex and turn to their male friends instead. Just food for thought. IP: Logged |

i really dont know if it is genetics or not. My brother in law was molested by a neighbor when he was 7 years old and 2 more of his friends were molested by the same man and guess what????? They are all gay! Isnt that weird! My brother in law could get all the women if he wanted. He was voted Best Looking in high school and girls calling him all the time, before he came "out the closet" So i dont know if that has something to do with it or not, who knows? IP: Logged |

I have no clue how a guy could be gay. I practically go insane every day because I love women so much. Especially in the summer, seeing hot chicks at the pool wearing string bikinis, oiled up, holy shit they are so damn hot! Thank god for Oakleys. Then, after I see them, I cannot understand how someone could want to get with some hairy, smelly dude. It blows my mind. i am gay. god, i wish i could be straight. i would love nothing more than to live the suburban life with a wife, dog and two kids and a white picket fence. unfortunately, i can't control what gets my dick hard...nor can any of you. i'd give anything to be able to have a "normal" life. as for genetics vs. choice...it's so obvious to me that homosexuality is NOT a choice. as evidence i offer exhibit A: most fags are "nelly"...quite feminine. (and contrary to images in pornos most lesbians are big manly dykes) gay people supposedly have this thing called "gaydar" whereby they can tell who's gay just by looking at them or listening to them. any straight person's gaydar would be equally accurate. there are telltale signs of homosexuality. contrary to what some straight people might think, these are not "signals" to advertise yourself to other gays, they're natural characteristics. i'm pretty lucky in that i'm not obvious that way (from an early age i was concious of masking some of these characteristics)...i've always lived only in the straight world and all of my friends are straight. i feel badly for the obvious ones who are ostracized from an early age...what a terrible life to have to lead.
