From my morning newspaper: ...by a 46-4 vote, the NCAA voted last month to ban schools from providing or selling creatine to athletes as of Aug. 1. The competitive Safeguards Committee recommended the action, citing health concerns and ignored the advice of strength and conditioning coaches fron Nebraska, Notre Dame, Florida State and other schools. "What this means is that an athlete will go to a store and not know the quality and we won't know the quantity of the creatine being used," Epley(Nebraska strength coach) said. "It becomes an individual expense for the athlete and actually eliminates a lot of safguards we provide." ...Florida State strength coach Dave Van Halanger to the Orlando Sentinel, "The one thing creatine really helped is that it kept everyone away from any type of steroids. It helped without hurting you." Steroids are banned by the NCAA. Nebraska football players, for instance, are tested up to eight times a year - four times at random - by three different organizations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I think that the NCAA is slowly cutting it own throat.
