  hey fellas, i am working as a PI right now, and i fucking hate it... too many hours, not enough pay... plus add on the fact that i am in a car all god damn day, sitting on my ass... it is interrupting workouts and i am skipping some too. hell, who am i kidding, i have lost 13 lbs since i started.... i want to know what you like most about your jobs, and what you like least.. my goal is to be a patrol officer and work from there, but their is a ton of politics involved IE hire minorities and women, etc... any way, just lookin for some advice. say bro, i have been thinking of becoming cop. I have five felonies,(related to a marijuana growroom) but I wasnt convicted just plead no contest. Do you think i still could get hired somewhere if i completed an asso. or even a batchelor in criminal justice. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I've been working in prisons (as a guard) since 92. You really get dicked as a rookie due to shift work. Fucks with eat/sleep pattern. This can lead to shitty workouts and you will need to be super cautious of overtraining. When you get some seniority under your belt go ahead and get a little more into it since your schedule will remain more consistant. On the upside you will be motivated to train when you see some of the size of "those in need of supervision". IP: Logged |

hey moe, no offense man, but your job as a cop would be to nail people... even for things you have done or do... sure, you can look the other way if some guy is all and all a decent person, but has a joint on him.. but if the guy has, i dont know, say...A GARDEN, you gotta nail him, you cant go back and toke when your shift is over... i'm just sayin...... any more input fellas? Today you pretty much need a BA or BS to become a cop. (Although it does not necessarily have to be in Criminal Justice)Their is just too many people who want to do it. If you have ever been arrested for anything, forget it. Arrests are looked at as convictions. The FBI wont even look at you if you have speeding tickets. Oh yeah, 99% of departments also make you take a polygraph (And yes you have to pass) to see if you are being truthful about past drug use, etc. Sorry Moe- IP: Logged |

yeah, the arrest is looked at as a conviction in the civilian world to. I cant even get a job at the mall. O well, 24k every 52 days will just have to do. They are hiring for state police here in New Mexico. You only have to have like 2 years of college or like 30 credit hours. Get your own car, get a decent pay, get to retire in like 17-21 years. It isn't bad really but Albuquerque is growing by leaps and bounds and we do have quite a gang and drug problem. If you are willing to relocate I am sure you could get in. moe dank, well if you smoke weed you have to be clean for 2 years before applying, they check your drug history by polygraph, and its like 5 years for acid, mushrooms and im not sure about gear, either 2 or 5...so you gotta lot of cleaning up to do...as far as being hired depends on where you apply, theyll give everybody an even shot if you meet minimum requirements, you will have alot of explaining to do about your record IP: Logged |

hey IC... may i ask what state? i am in TN. now.. i tried to get on richmond, and being honest like i am, i admitted to pot smoking over 8 years ago... boom, i was done.. i blew every mother fucker out during the testing (physical), and i passed the written (they dont give scores, just pass/fail) but i was denied... oh well, richmond was sick. i want on nashvilles dept, but i gotta get an hour off work to apply, and then wait on that list. I never thought i would say it either, but money doesnt make you complete on the inside. sure life is going to kick you in the ass and money helps cushion the blow no doubt. Now, question for IC576, with all due respect, you can take AS if you go to a longevity/wellness center unless your department has a rule against it. It will cost a lot but you get your gear legit. Moe you can do many of those things without being a police officer. Volunteer at a homeless shelter, a womens abuse center, a rape hotline, etc. You don't need the dough so do some good. Think of how tense you would make everyone once they know you are a cop...I mean people freeze up when driving as soon as they see a cop, even if they are obeying all the rules. And everyone hates cops until they are in trouble - you would be a target by simply donning the blue. I am not saying one should not be a cop, but its a hard hard job. I have really good friends in law enforcement ranging from county jail to US Marshalls. It is for some people, but it is a hard job. Low pay for often boring sometimes dangerous work. You may want to take the job to serve and protect...with the emphasis on the service...but you better be ready to put a bullet through some 14 year old kids chest because he has been told by a gang he has to kill a cop to get "jumped in". I live in one of the biggest cities in the US and I have a police friend that says he has to be ready to kill some kid at least once a month. you may want to "do good", but for some it is mentally hard to forget the kid who just hit puberty and his life is now over....but you had to do it. C'mon...you are telling me the cops aren't doing steroids? I find that hard to believe. I have a friend who is a fireman and most the guys there are on juice. IP: Logged |

Thats right, a lot of people take their frustrations out on the police and find reason to hate them. Then there will be those to love having you around like old people and convenient store clerks. There are many who take their frustrations out on cops cuz its a lot easier than looking inwardly and seeing the sack o' shit that deserves every kick in the ass life has to offer them. IP: Logged |

If a COP lied to obtain a warrent and trashed your life for a good 5 years, and the case was thrown out of court because of constitutional grounds some might call them selves lucky because they walked away clean as a whistle. But I'd say any cop who breaks the law to enforce the law, is a criminal and should go to jail, at least that's what the Judge thought too. Liars don't deserve to be police officers. Role models my ass!! Try saying that in L.A, the city is being sued for 130 million dollars for violating citizens civil righhts, planting edvidence,Filling false statements in Police reports, and falsly testifying in court about citizens who were not guilty of any crime were jailed and put in prison for years, because of dirty COPS and we have to payout damages to cover their ass'es? Some cops are not what you would call role models, and it only takes meeting one of them to get a bad view on the power a cop can have. I disliked cops for several years over one person. People have to realize that bad cops make up only a fraction of a % of the cops out there. You cannot label an entire organization "bad" because of a few idiots. BTW, the PI's I know make more than cops but they work for law firms and dont peep in windows. IP: Logged |

One thing about a fallen cop, it's to say there is a lesson in these shootings, it's really simple, do you want to live long enough to see your grand kids grow up? Do want to collect your pension?
