Hey bros, I'm really getting fed up with this shit. I layed off heavy squats because whenever I do them I get this intense pain in my lower back on the right side. It's hard to pinpoint but it's either lower back or hip. I've had it X-rayed and even had an MRI and they can't find anything wrong. I use strict form and a belt clinched tight so I don't know what else I can do. So I decided to do light squats for 3 to 5 sets and do heavy leg presses. That worked fine for awhile and now the pain is back. It starts after I leave the gym and is so intense that if I turn the wrong way it can take my breath away. Not to mention I now have a hard time sleeping. I've tried a chiropractor, Rolfing, pain pills etc. Nothing works. I was just wondering if anybody on the board experienced anything like this and if so what you did about it. IP: Logged |

I feel for you Bro. Does the pain seem to be muscular or in the bones? You might have some genetic quirk that causes this. Do you have any problems with dead lifts? Good luck. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I had back pain that would hit so fast it would stop me from breathing. Real fucking painful. I never knew when it would happen. I was at the Choripracter for 10 mos. before he got it gone. The best results for me were the table that stretched the lower spine. He cracked the shit out of my spine, too. Make sure the quack takes X-rays first. If you're a monster, be careful with the pressure he uses on your neck/spine. IP: Logged |

If there is pain your body is giving you a signal. From my exprience I would tell you not to push it until you know what is happening for sure. I have had c5 and c6 fused and I can tell you it no fun. 10 month were I could not lift more than 10 pounds. I know you are worried about gains, but you will lose everything with an injury. Sure it comes back quick but, it will be a long time before they will let you train again. Be careful I hate to see you hurt. You should ask BackDoc to give you some help. BackDoc are you an M.D. or a D.C.? Just wondering. IP: Logged |

Thanks bros. I appreciate your input. It's hard to tell if its muscular or bones. It's not on the surface it's like it's deep inside. Deadlifts do it too. I do stiff leg deadlifts with light weight to strenghten my lower back but they don't help with this problem. I'm going to get the arthred, keep going to the chiro and look for another Orthopedic DR. too. Cleaner, what happened that you had to get the discs fused? Did you try a Chiro before the operation? Can you still squat? Thanks bros. IP: Logged |

I fractured my neck on three times over 12 years. Finally I couldn't take the pain, so I had the fusion. The last time the disc try to wedge down the spinal canal. It bruised the cord and I had to wait three months for the swelling to go down. The realy screwed up part is that I listened to the D.C. - chiro and he realy fucked me. In 95 I had a head on car accidented some idiot took a left turn infront of me. You know how they say your arms won't be strong enough to take the force, bullshit -launched my ass straight up in to the hoodliner if the car. On the outside you see a big dent where my head was. So my neck folded over and slammed against my shoulder fracturing 3 vertebra. The D.C. could make adjustment because I had to much muscle mass for him to move. Some time they would two and three doc's at once pushing on me. Several time they phyiscally hurt me. So he ask that I quite training, if thats what he needed to help the pain then fine. Well it was early 97 before I got back int the gym and latter that year we moved into a new house. Well one of my old football budies came over to help move. I have alway been stronger than him and he asked how I was feeling - I told him pretty good. So we moved this huge dresser with the drawers in it trying to save time. Well all the calcium build up and the pressure blew a large piece of the bone away and put me flat on my back. I knew right away that I had messed up. So after three weeks with no sleep, I was finally able to convince my doc to approve an MRI and it stuck out like a sore thumb. He could believe it. He said the pain level my have been like giving birth for three weeks straight. I was like dipshit! What do you think I was teeling you. Hey I'll be of what ever help I can!! Listen to your body, you are right to be worried. I would be much father along without these injuries. So change you r training how ever you need to stay comfortable. Hope this is help! IP: Logged |

Pain that "feels" like it is the musculoskeletal system might not really be in either the muscle or bone. Alot of visceral problems refer pain to areas of muscle or skeleton. If any of the viscera (organs) become inflammed the pain often is elsewhere. The gallbladder can become inflammed but typically refers pain to the right shoulder blad area or lower rib cage - will hurt when yuo take a deep breath. The pancreas, pericardium, kidneys etc all refer pain elsewhere. One not uncommon type of refered pain that can be misdiagnosed is the numbness in the left arm from heart problems. SO perhaps the work out is irritating a partially inflammed organ. IP: Logged |

Thanks again bros to everyone that responded. I feel better knowing that you guys can relate. I'm going to try whatever I can to fix the problem. I'll work around it at the gym for as long as needed. But this has been a part of my life for so long there is no way I will quit. IP: Logged |
