I was going to post this in the Supplements board...but it really isn't one, so the C & C gets it. For any of you who use them...which sleep-aid do you find works best at giving a GOOD nights sleep but doesn't make you feel like you are walking around in a cloud the following day? PT. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. IP: Logged |

The herb Valerian is good for insomnia. I suggest it every time but I don't know if anybody listens. I don't do drugs unless I have to. IP: Logged |

I am going on this Camporee with my son this weekend. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and I know if I don't take something I won't get any sleep. I love camping, but I like Dark and Quiet for sleeping and with 1200 people and sunrise at 5:30 .... it ain't going to happen without help. Correct me, but aren't herbals more of a relaxant than a sleep-aid? IP: Logged |

I've tried 'em all, OTC, herbs and prescription shit. Since my wife doesn't like me taking prescription meds for insomnia, I usually take two tylenol PM and I manage about 7-8 hours of decent sleep and don't feel any ill effects in the AM. IP: Logged |

most herbal and OTC (diphenhydramine) will exhibit long acting effects causing the dreaded "hangover effect" we dont want. Again, i recommend the legend drug (s) Ambien, Restoril, Sonata for excellent quality sleep. They are relatively short acting without longlived metabolites. They do not hinder REM sleep making you feel "rested the next day" These agents should only be used short term due to "dependence" associated with these agents. There are others such as Trazadone but I would stay away from any of these "psychotropics" for sleep use. The side effects we do not want. IP: Logged |

Melatonin works for me and I'm not groggy the next day. I use 3mgs but have experimented with up to 15 or 20 with no side affects. IP: Logged |

Go see your doctor & tell him your going on a trip for a week or so & that you always have trouble sleeping in strange suroundings & that you would like a rx for Ambien 10mg. Thats what I do before I go on a trip everytime. IP: Logged |

L-Tryptophan, or 5-HTP... You might wake up stiff because of the "depth" of sleep you achieve, but, you won't have any hangover. Puc IP: Logged |
