I really need a vacation, but with the stress of my job and what time I have accrued for vacation,I don't have a enough time for a month off work , I am on anti depressants and high BP med's and I have insomnia really bad and I am stressed out badly. My Dr finally said that's it, your takeing a month off of work under medical disability period. I have tried every thing to reduce my work load and stress levels, but I'm still stressed out. This will give me some serious time in the gym to work out, six days a week, and eat like a pig, and rest like crazy. Either I take the time to chill out or I'll have to quit my job, I'm a little concerned about my job being there when I get back, but I have no choice but to follow my Dr's recommendation, either that or I could have a stroke, a coronary, go crazy, or quit. I'm releaved because I couldn't make the choice by my self. Just a thought I wanted to share...Any one else been there done that? It's uncharted waters for me...

I have never had to get medical leave for time off from work. I luckily have many vacation days. If I were you, I really would do some job hunting while you are off. I can not imagine any job is worth all that crap you seem to be going through. Enjoy your time off!

Thanks for the input bro, your right of coarse about looking for work else wear, I'm good at what I do and our competitors are always trying to recruit players to their teams...That's a thought, I'll work on it...

I think one the reasons I get so stressed is because of all the negative comments I get from my customers who dislike our service, and in particular how much crap they have to take from our Chicago world headquarters, most of my customers call me because Chicago DOES NOT LISTEN TO THEIR NEEDS, but I do and my customer have spread the word if you want answers and need service call this guy, he's the only one who listens, and fixes the problem. I don't like having my name involved with a third rate company, it just gets me down..

You asked so here it is.
1. West coast showroom Facility manager.
2. Westcoast applications engineer, twenty five state territory
3. Travel all the time.
4. purchasing agent for west coast faclity
5 Accountant for all adminstative jobs, expense accounts, out side vendors and suppliers.
6.Service engineer
7.Training of customers in the field.
6.Programmer cad/cam.
7.Trainer of our training dept, as if I don't have enough to do already.
8. Machine tool demo engineer, assist sales staff in machine tool sales, who make ten times what I make in commisions they don't earn.
9.Shipping and recieving manager for the west coast facility.
10. Phone support to the entire country when I have the time.

Sixty hour work weeks for which I make nothing extra, travel on my own time, no personal life, no spiritual live, I 'm lucky if I have three hours a week to work out, no wife, no girl friend, almost no social life, light drinker. And host of what ever else they can throw at me, which can change at a moments notice...So is that enough? I hope you can understand where I'm coming from...More a machine than a human being, it's getting old, and so am I, 44 and still going, I hope.

With a resume like that, single, and if willing to relocate, I definately would be job searching, if I were in your shoes. Do not sell yourself short. Think of what you could gain if you found another job. Also, if your company realizes how much you do for them and you threaten to leave, or you have another job offer, they might be willing to work something out for you to lighten the load. Well good luck on whatever you decide and enjoy your workouts while you have the time to do so.

Hey Vitaman, Thanks your right of coarse, this time off work will be a valuable insight of just of much I do out here, not only to my company but to my customers, who will be bitching out Chicago because the ball is back in their court. I will be in the gym every day but sunday from now on, and when I get back I'll definately be in good shape. I imagine people will wonder WTF, how come your so much bigger, because I ate like hell, 6 meals a day, lifted like a mad man, and finally got the rest I needed.
They don't need to know more then that.
By the way I may just spin off my own company and double or triple my income, this would piss off my employer, but a man's gotta to do what a man's gotta do.

With all the jobs out there you shouldnt have any trouble finding one. Especially since you are so mobile. Great work ethic too. Lifes too short Rich. I'm the same age you are and you know how fast its gone by so far. Get some bro!

Go move to the islands and be an islander for a month or two. That's just my opinion. I kinda find that to be a great get away from it all!

By now you should have one hell of a resume
with all that shit.I would definetly think
of looking around for a job that doesnt require traveling so much & such long hours.
you may have to take a cut in pay for a while
but hey whats more important your health
& mental well being or more money?I can tell
you that if your having deppression & this job is keeping you from being happy even on the little bit of time your off then you
should definetly look elsewhere.No amount
of money is worth your happieness.High BP
insomnia & depression will cause you to age
twice as fast so think about it.

Thanks for your sugestion's, everyone's good, I already knew the answer's just wanted some feed back. The company now has my write up off my job officially, as to weither they will make it formal we shall see, they don't want to commit to any thing in writting because I'll hold them to it legally, so now they have NO choice, I 'm holding the cards and it's a good hand I've dealt my self. They really had no idea of what I do out here, I'm 1500 miles away from their office so they don't have a clue who does all the administration out here, but now they do...the world is my oyster, and I'm the pearl in it. Later bro's, maybe next month I'll either get some slack, more pay, and or another job...Though more money won't fix whats broken...
