Is it just me or is it difficult for you ladies and gentlemen involved in bodybuilding to be around other humans who arnt? I am a part time intern in college. I am only 21 years old but im a competing bodybuilder. I am in the middle of my diet preparing for show. As a result I live a regimented life, filled with timed meals, times supplement intake, a gallon of water where ever I go, etc.
My coworkers are all bitterly overweight soft, lazy, stressed, and consumed with envy. The overweight self-concious women in the office dislike me, because I wont treat them with the pathetic affection the average man will, because I am not fond of 23 yearold girls who have let themselves go to shit. As a result I am pegged as arrogant.
The overweight males who cant imagine engauging in any form of resistance training are openly sarcastic and bitter pertaining to my dietary practices. It seems like I just dont belong amongst other people who cant appricate the dedication and desire involved in bodybuilding. I am viewed as eccentric when I politly turn down invitations to "Burger King". Im given the 3rd degree and questioned incesently about why I eat 6 meals a day and am able to lose bodyfat while preserving muscle.I guess the saying hold true, "birds of a feather do flock together".
Yet, the gym environment itself can be pathetic. Jealousy on the part of others, and open aggression expressed indirectly at us who work with dedication can be a bit frustrating.
Thankfully, there are secure people out there, myself included that admire better physiques. The appriciate seeing and learning from those more advanced than ourselves.
Am I speaking out of my ass, or do you all get similar reactions? Dont, get me wrong, amongst my peers I am viewed with respect, treated as a teacher of sorts. Adults, who appriciate dedication respect what I do. Its just the ton of other idiots that tend to get to me.

Yeah...I get the same feeling sometimes. Am I a freak because I want the best body I can produce?

I work as a Physical Therapist and an Athletic Trainer. I hate talking to Orthopedic Physicians who are so out of shape.

I hate fat girls who are on diets..yet suck down a box of fat free cookies right in front of me? Am I being rude when I point out that all those carbs are just going to make their asses fatter?

My friends at college gave me crap for always wanting to lift and eat well. Hey...how can I be giving advice and doing my job if I was a scrawny 135lb dork...which I used to be in high school?

Everyone is a critic...and chances are...those people giving you shit sometimes wish they could be in shape.

Oh well....just my rant for the day..

Time to sell that Dizzy guy some CLAMbuterol

I agree. It seems like when we have friends who don't lift or bodybuild that they try and bring us down to their level. It's hard sometimes to turn down friends who are going out to eat at really rich expensive foods and living it to the hilt...but then again, it's easy for me to resist when I compare our physiques and overall health. They often try and tell me "oh come on, live a little! get out and try some REAL food!". I tell you, if REAL food makes you look like that, then I'll stick with my brown rice and lean meat dinners any day of the week. I know exactly what you mean.

Read my I'm losing it post.
I have three of the fattiest ladys in the world sitting right outside of my office.
If they see me taking multi's - its going to kill me.
They tell if I would eat right I wouldn't need them.

So I a mean bastard - mean and when they are wooooffffing down chocolate and other B.S. - I always tell them you don't need that. Look what its doing to your butt and if you would get off your ass - you would have to have a perfect diet - or diet at all.
I burn what I eat and then some if I'm not watching.

WOWOWOWOW easy didn't mean to rant on your post. Touchy!! Sorry

I have no problem hanging around with anyone. I don't care if someone is 240 lbs ripped or not, they have something they could teach me. Perhaps not about bodybuilding, but everybody has something to contribute. I don't know its just my opinion but....

Can't we all just get along?

I completely agree also. Ever notice how it's usually the fattest most out of shape people that tend to bug you the most? I get sick of having to explain why I'm eating this and why I won't eat that blah blah blah. And the worst thing is when some fatass starts spouting off bunk nutrition advice to you like you're going to listen.
Grrrrrr.... this is pissing me off I think I'm gonna go post in the "I Hate fat people " thead again.

i was just thinking of this topic AGAIN today. seems like i have an example each day of the week.
ill just give one: last weekend i came out of my growth capsule (house) to go out with some friends from work. we went to a bar and were hanging out. i dont drink obviously so i was the D.D.... fine. but how come when all your buddies get drunk and arent picking up they tell the in shape guy of the group to start flexing or lift his sleeve? wtf? so i can look like an arrogant jerk who doesnt know the difference between the stage (my bathroom) and a public place? maybe i can just not wear any good clothes next time and just sport some posing trunks? seems funny to me. its one thing to be proud of the effort you put into your body, but im not hooking up my jiggly buddies and making an ass of myself in the process. if they want to pull thier sleeves up they had better hit the gym or eat a whole lot of twinkies to get "fat lady arms" ...hehe.

can we start a new country full of decent bodybuilders and fitness minded individuals where we can all relate. persecute or assimilate the fat and lazy....hehe. well maybe just deport them to mcdonaldland.

Someone mentioned the parent thing. I can't stand to visit my out of shape family. They give me lectures on how I am taking this too far. How I should try to be normal, not obsessed. How there is no need to be any bigger.

ahhh..the family get togethers..my ripped abs versus my four brain dead aunts who catch flies with their open mouths and like to drool worse than my dog Dakota.

Got to love the holidays where you get ripped for being a freak. I lift weights...they lift cigarettes. I eat really well...they like Jack Daniels with Pepsi One..(it has 1 calorie you know).

That was my parents, family reunions is when my truckdriver uncle gets to tell me how to lift and what I should eat to put on size. I tell him he must have got that one down good, but I am not looking to put on a belly I can eat off of. Then you got the farmer side of the family who likes to tell me I could not make it through one day of their hard-fastpase life. That I may be big, but I would get tired in no time. Oh well, I still look good in my shorts..

I hear all ya guys. I have the exact same situation. I am not a huge guy by any means, but I have gone from a bone rack to having a decent amount of muscle in comparison.

I found that the answer is basic jelousy. I know this sounds weird, but, people want to pull you down to their level because when you are commited to improving your body, you are 'above' them, and people don't like feeling inferior. Same thing goes with your job, love life, the whole shabang. Think about it.. if you get down to the lowest bodyfay, are ripped and are even lucky enough to have the world's best genetics, and were REALLY NATURAL... someone would be there to call you a roid freak and knock you down as they are packing in the crisco burgers. Why? Because they CAN'T do what you do, so they have to say something to make themselves and others think they are equal or better than/to you.

With that mindset, I used to defend myself left right and center. Now, I just laugh it off, thinking that they are just ignorant. If people decide to get into it about roids, supps and other stuff - I get all technical on them:

"Please explain to me how a steroid molecule works?"
"Explain to me WHY creatine is bad, not how you heard it on 60 minutes???"
"How can MUSCLE magically turn to FAT as you scientifically state when a BB'er goes off?"
"If steroids magically give you muscle, why doesn't everyone take it, then they can look like Nasser or Arnold in a couple weeks doing light workouts and cardio?"

People usually shut up pretty quick after that and don't bother me... whew!!! That was a nice post eh? What do you guys think???

It is hard going back home and visiting family. Since I am from the South, I come from the upbringing where everything is made with bacon grease and sugar. My Grandmother even puts it in the vegetables. Down in Texas, our social life and family time revolves around food. So when I don't eat all the fat, butt bulging food, they are offended. It's just better not to go. It's like offering an alcoholic a drink when he's trying to quit.

No one understands what I am trying to do and they say I am making myself sick.

It is better to hang with those who work out and eat right. Mainly because you are accountable to them when you slip up or they call you and say, "Hey, why weren't you at the gym tonight. Get your lazy butt off the couch and go, you lazy bastard!!!!!!"

Twisted_Steel - I hear you man. I think they're just jealous. Any time I walk by the office and the out of shape women are talking about getting their stomachs flat, I just have to stop myself from laughing. However, I find being in shape is an excellent way of pissing them off. Jokes on them I guess.
