Just wondering what you thought of the raid. I think he should have gone back to his father but raiding an unarmed family is really uncalled for. They didnt even use the pros. (although there were some marshals their) Did you see those fat ass INS agents? They give Law Enforcment a bad name. The Clinton administration will have this black eye for a long time-

I think they should have done it sooner. He should have been sent back after being released from the hospital. That is the deal if you dont make it to shore then your ass is going back! He didnt make it to land so what is the big deal anyway.

I for one am sick of seeing it on the news. What about all the other kids they send back every day. Where is the press coverage.

I for one am glad they did it, that kid should have been sent to his father immediately after he got out of the hospital....his damn family has been spreading more propaganda BS than Castro....first they say he should stay because Castro is so evil, then they say the kid has blatantly said he wants to stay (yea no shit, if I was 6 years old and you bought me a ton of toys and treated me like a king and then asked me, why in the fuck would I want to leave), then they came out of no where with accusations that the father was abusive when in the beginning they had blatantly said that he was a good father and they had no problem giving him the child but did no want to send him to Cuba. I wouldnt mind seeing the kid and his dad stay here but someone needs to get him away from that crack pot family...those people have lied, disregarded the government, and played the the hell out of the sympathy of America... Ive watched this story since the day it started and although I am more than tired of it I have still payed attention...oh yea and I watched it live yesterday morning when they took the kid too..... I didnt like the way they did it but if they hadnt that family would have never let them take the kid....

They should have taken the kid sooner, damn idiots, the family refused to turn over the kid even after the deadline had passes, he belongs with his father hands down.

It's such and idiotic thing, god is there nothing more interesting for the news to report on?

Janet Reno screwed up...she forgot the choppers and the tanks. I would of sent a SEAL team...cause I'm crazy like that.

Glad to see the kid back with his dad. Now all those protesters can get jobs.

Yeah They should have done it asap when he got out of the hospital, BTW the Clinton administration ALREADY has a black eye, remember when Hillary slugged Bill? The front page photos with the goon and the machine gun were classic Janet Reno ala WACO. Janet Reno is one fucked human who doesn't belong in Public service.Just my hummble opinion.

I'm thrilled that Janet Reno -- still smarting from her inept handling of the mess at Waco -- masterminded such a smart and efficient intervention in Miami over the weekend. But this unavoidably ugly incident wouldn't have occurred if Elian Gonzalez's foster family obeyed the laws of the country they claim to love so much.

The whole bunch of hypocritical flag-wavers should be brought up on charges of obstructing law enforcement. They should also cover all of the expenses they've incurred rather than letting taxpayers foot the bill. Like psychiatric fees. I know it's very trendy to think Elian will never recover from post-traumatic stress disorder, but tons of kids deal with worse and make it through fine. I say give the kid an ice-cream cone and let him get over it.

But, you know, Elian should've been shipped back to his Dad the moment his situation was discovered by authorities. I wouldn't want to live in "Castro's Cuba", but I sure would rather be there than Haiti, Nicaragua, Iran, etc. It's sad that most Cubans are poor, but it's also sad that most Starbucks-sipping, Saturn-driving, pill-popping Americans can't get it through their thick skulls that most Cubans like their simple, sandy, sunny, family-oriented lifestyle and would NOT leave if given the chance. Keep in mind that most of the Cuban exiles in Miami were wealthy landowners who cry liberty despite the fact that, before the revolution and their departure, they treated the lower classes like slaves themselves.

Elian's mother didn't run away from Castro but toward her boyfriend. The whole freedom and liberty schtick deflects the fact that tossing a kid on a liferaft is child abuse and child endangerment. Elian's maternal family in Miami is a cavalcade of nutjobs. That surrogate mother has been hospitalized for mental-health reasons 12 times in 3 years ... and those unstable uncles have DWI records a mile long. Meanwhile' Elian's dad, like his father and grandfather before him, willingly joined the Cuban Communist party years ago, so why anyone would think Castro had a gun to his head is beyond me. Although, if I were in Castro's place, I'd want the kid back too.

They should have done it sooner. If it was my kid, I would have stormed that house myself to get him back....

Hey T, your right the FatAss INS agents bring down Federal Law Enforcement. But, it was the Border Patrol that snatched the kid. None of the guys were fat.

Anyway I'm glad Reno had the Balls to go in and snatch the kid. lol

i have way too much goin on in my life to worry about some fuckin kid on the other side of the country. He was here illegaly, so ship his ass back. people should worry about thier own personal lifes instead of involving themselves in his life. same goes for the Ramsey thing.

Downsouth- I thought it was Marshals that did the actual extraction. Anyway, I agree with some of you guys that it has been blown way out of porportion. But it is an interesting case, just like the Ramsey case.
I think its perfectly natural to be interested in such controversial incidents. Gives people something to small talk about. After all, we all have an opinion-

Assuming the aunt never sees Elian again - I sure as hell hope she doesn't - give it a year before she poses in "Playboy" or sells her story to Hollywood for a big-budget movie starring Christina Aguilera.

I agree that the child should have been given up to the state- however, the whole thing was handled rather badly. They should have come in during the day with a 50, 100 or even 500 troopers- a night time raid like that is the kind that everyone fears- in my opinion its just bad PR.
the whole things political anyway- you really think that all those cubans are really concerned about one boy- no, they just hate castro- though probably not without reason.

i'm glad that he's gone. it started getting boring and monotonous hearing about Elian every fucking day. he should've just been sent back to cuba in the first place, he didn't even make it to the states so he shouldn't have been allowed to stay here anyway. just my opinion.
