Fact: Apocalypse was the first mutant ever born.

Fact: Apocalypse has the power of time travel. Hence, immortality. Sorry, Onslaught is a dead and Thanos has no Infinity Gauntlet anymore.

Fact: Apocalypse rules the earth in an alternate timeline.

Fact: Apocalypse has done more to effect the permanent lives (an important and sacred concept in comic books) of the X-Men than any other villian.
1. Responsible for Angel's crucification and rebirth as ArchAngel.
2. He masterminded the creation of Mr. Sinister, who in his own right, is one of the X-Men's greatest foes. And we all know the rumors of his involvement in Scott and Alex Summers' parents' death. Also remember the role Sinister has played in Gambit's origin and his realationship with other X-Men. The list goes on. The equation is simple. No Apocalypse = No Sinister.
3. Cable's sole quest in life was to eradicate the threat Apocalypse posed. In effect, Apocalypse is responsible for making Cable into what he is now. Remember young Nathan Summers back in X-Factor and how he was taken into the future to eventually become, yup....Cable.
4. Rachel Summers (Phoenix) wouldn't exist as a character either if it wasn't for Apocalypse's "Age of Apocalypse" timeline which is her originating timeline. Other important characters have emerged from this timeline as well.
5. Wolverine has his adamantium back due to Apocalypse. Sabertooth's was taken away in the same process. How about the last major X-Title crossover where Apocalypse manipulated the 12 chosen mutants for his own goals of omnipotence? Who else could pull that off?
6. Yes, the villians you mentioned are badass. Galactus and Onslaught are/were probably more powerful in terms of sheer power than Apocalypse. So were the Beyonder and Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet (both of wich were very cool and kick ass characters, especially the latter). My point however, is that you will be hard pressed to find a villian that has had a more lasting or deep-rooted effect on the lives of his arch enemies. I don't even think Magneto or Dr. Doom come close.

Summary: APOCALYPSE IS YOUR DADDY!!!!

BTW, I agree on Onslaught...one badass creation. I doubt we'll ever see him again, especially not just like he was. Galactus will be back though. Trust me.
