I am really a dumbass when it comes to my scanner and I do not have the handbook. Anyways, it is a Visoneer PaperPort3100 and I just hooked it up again after a year, never used it much. Well, I put in a pic and click on twain (scan) and it gives me an error Code7: Calibration failed, what the hell does this mean...????? Can you help a dipshit out? I tried help and it says nothing about error code 7 or calibration...

uhh - you aren't giving enough info here.

are you on a windows system?
is it a serial port or USB (the cord coming out of the back, does it go to a little shiny thing, or a wide thing with lots of pins)?
is this to scan pics of you to send to me?
did it come with an install program, and if so, do you still have it?

Yes, I installed it with the disk I have, God I sound like a dipshit. The cord looks like a printer cable, it comes out of the hard drive, into the printer, into the scanner (something like that) I use Windows 98. It fucking sucks BYW...I like 95 better. & yes, you get pics. Maybe I didn't install it right...how can that be though. I did everything it told me to and I have the little icon thingy on my desktop. hehehehehe Hey, don't laugh, you ask me anything about building a house and I'll tell ya..hahahahaha

hey, I know about building a house too I used to work at a lumber yard.

Okay, well, I hate to sound like a jerk, but the first two things to ask - 1) does it have power (is it plugged into the wall), and 2) is it able to send data (is the other cable connected to the computer).

it sounds like it is a serial connection if it is big. all of the times I've seen the configs, they are usually the computer is connected to the scanner, and then the scanner will pass on to the printer - but maybe your setup is different.

so, when it installed, did it do any tests to see if you printer was there and/or working?
I've had both easy and hard experiences with scanners - I am boycotting Microtek b/c they make such shit, and then I got a umax and it is awesome.

Ok, yes the thingamajig is plugged in and the printer has been working fine. I will take everything apart and hook it up again and see if that works I guess. It has two cables coming from the back of the scanner, one to the printer and one to the hard drive and an power cord (which like I stated is plugged into the wall.)I guess I better learn to figure this shit out, I hate to frustrate people with these stupid questions...

The secret to computers is learning to dumb it down.
In order to think through the computer problem, think like it does - which is very basic.
The scanner runs its magic picture grabber along the inside of its box and sees your photo and takes pictures of it. in order to do this, it needs to be plugged in (and turned on if it has a power switch). but it needs something to tell it to do that, as well as something to give the data to later - so that would be the computer, so that cable needs to be connected to your computer.
then you need the software installed on the comp so it can talk to the scanner the right way.
it is just a chain.

one thing that might be the problem - if the scanner is running through the printer before going to the computer, it migh thave to be turned on (or if it is on now and not working, try turning it off).

other than that, I'm sorry, I'm pretty worthless unless I'm there to play with it. he hee, that sounds funny if you take that beyond computers.
