Time out is like go sit in the corner back in my days. It just pissed me off and I wanted to destroy the kid that got me sent to the corner, because all that was going to happen was I was going back to the corner. Now my mom on the other hand did not believe in time out/corner and I got my ass woopped so I left the kid alone when my mom was babysitting me and friend. She gave the nursery the okay to beat me, but they did not. Time out/corner was never a penalty for me that worked.     | ||

This is a different angle from the nerd with the people picking on him and him getting revenge. I am sure there are many thinks causing this to happen, but this may be part of it. Not only the kids doing the shooting, but the kid doing the picking may of never had to pay the piper for their actions. | ||

check, i am too lazy to read the post you made... but seriously, if these kids werent able to get the guns so easily we wouldnt have this... when we were all little it was bats and chucks and night sticks... now its guns!!! i mean, i coulda fucked up 1 or 2 kids back in the day, but now its kill 10 or so.... i wonder if video games have something to do with it, afterall, you KILL everyone in the game... they are so desensatized its not even funny.... killing people for making fun of you? god damn, imagine how long i would last now! | ||

sorry, i dont buy your ass beating theory. i dont believe that a rational parent that would put their hands on a child to "discipline" them. spanking is normally an outlet to release anger for the parent upon the child. its 'LEGAL ASSAULT' so to speak. no one has the right to hit another person, parent or otherwise. this vicious cycle of forced discipline may work for pavlovs dog but for humans it only instills a sense of deep down resentment for being beaten. this resentment will either perpetuate in the next child/spouse or will swing completely opposite and there will be a no physical policy. same with smokers children, love it or hate it. so for all who felt you had more "respect", i call bullshit. you had fear of being swatted again and that made you act right, nothing more nothing less. respect is earned, not forced onto someone. while erratic behavior may be temporarily quelled by physical discipline, it only perpetuates. not all parents are qualified to issue "just the right amount of force" and thus becomes violent abuse. these childrens are what become the victims and seek out their own victims later in life. this may not mean murder but mentally abusive, physically domineering or similar relationships with their spouses and eventually their children. i know i would spit on a person i see striking their child in public but to each his own for now. there will be a time though when "spare the rod, spoil the child" is no longer. | ||

Im all for it, its always the spoiled little brats that walk all over there parents that end up doing it. Im not for excessive abuse of course, but to a certain degree I think its a must | ||

I hold nothing against my mom and dad. they gave me everything including a nice red ass evey now and then. If I disobeyed I knew what was coming and if it was a nose in the corner I did it again. If it qualified as an ass beating I did not do it. | ||

It's interesting how society is fine with beatings to punish negative behavior - while psych studies (Snyder and Swann, 1978 is one example) have shown that rewarding good behavior is far more effective than punishing bad behavior. The problem is that humans are designed to recognize patters, it helps them survive. but they are too good at it and start to see patterns where there aren't (poor correlations). So they see an occurrance, and then the follow up, and think they see a pattern, and this throws it off? how so? well, you do something good, and you are rewarded for it each time. at some point you will do something bad, and that will be noticed and a poor correlation will go with that. so the parent thinks, I reward him for doing well, and then he does something bad. On the other hand, the kid does something bad, and then gets punished for it. Then after that does something good. The parent then sees another wrong correlation in that the punishment brought about the positive action, which isn't any more likely than the reward bringing about negative actions. read about regression theory and stats and there are some interesting things in there. ------------------ | ||

Fuck all that timeout bullshit. Sure it works for some kids and they turnout to be stand-up people, but some kids I see really need their ass beat. An ass beating stuck with me a lot longer than a timeout ever could. I'll hit my kids if I ever have any. No question about it. Especially if i have a boy[s]. Kids are little assholes nowadays too. Take my female cousins who just now turned 13. They are the most rotten kids i've ever seen and finally my aunt decided to physically discipline them, and the little bastards called the cops on her or told their teacher or some shit. Social services were called to investigate it, and now whenever my Aunt threatens to punsih them, they threaten to call the police on her. My pops had a classic line for that shit when I was a kid. YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT TO THE PHONE FIRST!!! Don't take this the wrong way. I don't believe in abusing children and I despise the sick fucks that do. This whole country is so PC it makes me sick to my stomach. I hope I'm 6 feet under before these little snot nose, pansy-ass, pc, whining little fucks are running this country. We're raising a bunch of pussified, sissy boys, bunch of helmet wearing, kneepad sporting, electric scooter driving pansies. Kids can't even get into a good ol' fistacuffs at school without having the police involved in our times. Utterly disgusting! | ||

I agree with Latimer 110%--ass-beatings and this country being too PC. Sometimes I fucked up so bad as a kid I now wonder why my dad didn't draw blood when he piss-pounded me! I've already got my crowbar and Louisville Slugger bats ready for the future! LOL Fuckin' little back-talking brats....now if they're GOOD kids, that's another story. |
