WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (Reuters) - A teenage girl opened fire in the cafeteria of a Catholic high school Wednesday, wounding a classmate in the second U.S. school shooting in less than a week, authorities said. Police said gunfire rang out around noon EST at Bishop Neumann High School in Williamsport, about 120 miles northwest of Philadelphia. An unidentified 13-year-old girl was wounded in the attack. She was treated at Williamsport Hospital and Medical Center and then transported to a trauma center 30 miles away in the town of Danville, hospital spokeswoman Tracy Witter said. She could not confirm local media reports that the girl may have been hit in the shoulder. Meanwhile, the young suspect was quickly taken into custody. Police and school officials had no immediate word on a motive for the shooting, believed to be the first in a spate of similar incidents in U.S. schools in which the suspected shooter was female. School officials in Williamsport, a town known internationally as the home of the Little League World Series, canceled classes and sent hundreds of Bishop Neumann students to a nearby church where they could be picked up by parents.

here is a solution---metal detectors in schools-------- There are people that want more gun control----That will be the biggest mistake you can do----- When a fucked up kid cant get a gun-----His next thing will be chemical weapons------I invision kids bringing in brownies filled with poision and putting them in the cafe with a sign on them saying free ----I would rather deal with a kid with a gun --then have him turn to something else---- Wasnt our biggest massacre not will guns but with simple fertilizer Guns are legal and drugs(weed-coke -E-H-etc)are not------A kid in this country can get the drugs easier then the gun----ban guns --(I think not) | ||

One answer is to stop sensationalizing the acts (through the media and especially TV). If it didn't attract so much attention, it would not be copied across the country. | ||

2thick, I am sure that the majority of these things would not happen if it were not for the media. I DO Blame the MEDIA for a great deal of this, however the person is to blame also. | ||

Metal detectors might work on the east coast where they build their schools straight up. But on the west coast I have notice that most of schools is spread out horizontal. You can't put a detector on every entrance. | ||

Look at it this way, everytime someone wants to pass a gun control bill they create a crisis. The crisis at this point is the school shootings. While I don't believe they are set up for that purpose, the anti gunners will be quick to point out that stricter gun laws or outright bans will and would have prevented these tragedy's instead of looking at the real problem and the breakdown in the social infrastructure that is taking place. Until we find why that is occuring and fix it this will only worsen. You can ban all the guns you want, they will use knives, bats, cars, pencils or bare hands. ------------------ | ||

Guns are not deadlier! People are. We have 20,000 gun laws on the books. 20,000! If 20,000 don't work why would more work? We don't need to launch somekind of gun control. We need to fix the social problems causing human childeren to freak out and kill. If they don't use a gun they will use something else. ------------------ |
