And how good are you?

I'm absolutely terrible, but I love to play...I can't think far enough ahead to beat a lateral thinker, but I can hold my own against other novices. I usually get frustrated at the end so no on wants to play with me cause I get too mad.

I must be a masochist...I like playing a game where my stupidity is an especial liability. Funny enough, my buddy who is dumb as dirt beats me all the time...now THAT really makes me mad.

I play.

I'd say I'm average. The key is to be able to think five or six moves ahead and arrange combinations that either give you a material advantage or a positional advantage.

Yahoo! has a good, live chess program that allows you the ability to play against a variety of skill levels.

I used to play an old chess computer game that highlighted where each piece could move...Didn't take much though but was alot of fun.

I would consider myself an average to crappy chess player...I won a few games on yahoo but those people stunk it up like me

I used to play chess quite a bit. Unfortuanately, I fell out of touch with people that enjoyed/knew the game, so I stopped playing. It's been years since I've played.

A game of chess is like a sword fight, you must think first before you move.

Hey, that's cool Moderator...I'm gonna try that site out. i want to get better, but I don't have that type of thought pattern....ironically, its the way I am in everything. Just get from one rock to the other...dont look too far ahead cause you'll get lost and discouraged. LOL...

Its all my moms fault..she always told me "one day at a time" LOL...

Your opening also is extremely important. You want to develop your pieces and not lose the positional advantage of the center of the board.

LOL at Moderator.

My problem is, I'll plan it all out and then I can't figure out what the other guy is doing, then I get all screwed up and go great guns, lose 3/4 of my men and wind up having to do a "last stand"...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.
