Has anyone ever noticed how an earthquake hits India and 13,000 people die in it, while an earthquake the same magnitude hits Seattle and only a few people are injured and the city is operating normally 3 days later. What's up with that? Are we that much more advanced? ![]()

I think that although they may been a similar magnitude the Seattle quake was alot deeper then the one in India. Even though the building standards in Seattle would be a billion times better then in India, I'm sure there would have been alot more damage if the quake was closer to the surface. ![]()

I thought based on the scale we judge it by had it been closer to the surface they would have faced almost complete damage ![]()

I too thought about the fact that only 1 person died here compared to how many died there. I thought of the quality of the buildings as the #1 explanation. ![]()

I live in seattle and it was ROCKIN! hahaha... no I don't think that many people would have died, it was a strong earthquake= 7.0 but being 30 miles beneath the surface from a subduction fault it wasn't "devastating" lol ![]() |
