In recent news I read that scientists discovered cocaine, marijuana, and acid on William Shakespear's pipe. No joke. Drugs were widely used and readily available during that time. It makes you think huh?     | ||

that's ridiculous. acid was discovered in 1938. shakespeare lived in the 1500's. drugs have been around forever and, yes, most artists and writers have taken them, but whoever told you that was fucking with you. | ||

Freud and doctors about that time were using cocain to swab out nazal passages for people with allergies and sinus trouble. The cocain caused the membranes to shrink. Cocaine (or a mild form of it from the leaves) was in the original formula for Coca Cola. Letters between Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin describe Franklin as wanting to wrap up negotiations with the French government in time for Franklin to get back for the Virgina "hemp" harvest. | ||

IT might be ibotenic acid which is commonly found in Amanita Muscaria, but that is seldom smoked.It is dried and eaten. Interesting note: the active ingredients of A.M are not quickly degraded by the body and in Siberia there is a practice of the chief urinating and passing it down through the ranks. Kinda gross, but everyone get off. | ||

I saw a news item a day or so ago about it, it was traces of cannibis that were found in a pipe of his, nothing about coke or acid. | ||

Where do you guys find such info? Amazing. Good info. I do not know if this might have also been true but Van Gogh (I hope that is correct spelling) loved to get high from Absinthe, a hallucinogenic form of alcohol. | ||

If I recall correctly, it wasn't his pipe. They just said they found several in the area near his home, and that it appeared to be a common practice in the area. | ||

I do beleive opium is considered a hallucigen and it was definately around at that time....and it is smokeable.  Coleridge wrote the AncienT Mariner completely fried from heroin. | ||

Yes he smoke herb. So did Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and most likely Ben Franklin. Also of historical note: Thomas Jefferson while ambassdor to France, barely got away with his life in coming back to the U.S. He had gotten some cannabis seeds from a chinese connection and the Emporator (mispelled) of China go after him as the seeds were his property, in fact everything in China was his to do what he pleases. All in all it is of good note historically this country has always gotten high. (Damn, I used to be able to spell very well, oh well, it is a left over from a stroke 11 years ago.) | ||
