I dont know if you have heard about the destruction of the ancient statues of Buddha by the jihad goverment in Afghanistan.
Despite the call from nations throughout the world the plunder of this holy city in the cliffside of an Afghan mountain continues.

This is like a crime against humanity and makes me fucking sick. Only a small percentage of these items have been cataloged
or documented. But the Jihad considers their
existence as an impurity that must be completely destroyed.
A wide variety of scholars have been trying to gain access to them for many years, but have been denied. They think this place will answer many question regarding world settlement history. But it looks like they will never get the chance.
This sick mentality is what I find so disturbing about the Jewish, Christian and Islamic religions. The big western 3 teach intolerance and hate. And yet people seem
confused when I tell them I have forsaken my childhood religion of Christianity.
Grotto.

I think it would be funny to have them read the documents from Vatican II

I bet they would shit a brick to hear the catholic church talking about equality for all reguardless of religous faith or personal beliefs.

I don't follow your leap of logic -
from Talliban destroying buddist statues to "Christianity bad!"

I consider myself to be a very spiritual person. But I think that religion is a boil on the ass of humanity that should have been lanced a long time ago.

Grotto try looking on the net for documents about Vatican II

there are a few other catholic documents much older that are not talked widely about that talk about tolerance of others...Not saying the Catholic church has always been very compasionate but they have had a few leaders who put aside the crap to help mankind as best as they could. I'll try to find the names of them if you would be open to seeing how "good" christians can be when they put aside their differences

Also TxCollege....do some research about the Catholic Church during WW2, how teh Pope asked that the black American soldiers please not enter the Vatican....or how Catholics in Poland actually built concentration camps for the Germans.....

Amen Grotto. Religion seems to be the cause of most of the world's wars. Highly religious people seem to be the most intolerant of people with different beliefs. I'm an atheist and I've been told by christians that I was going to hell, I should be shot, god was going to strike me down with lightning....etc. These people just can't comprehend someone with different beliefs.

Matt,

I know. I was just wondering if anyone else knew who that quote was from. Didn't suprise me at all that you knew it.

Ever seen the movie the Rapture? Ever read any Soren Kierkegaard? I think his views on spirituality are the most accurate.

Spirituality is intensly personal and cannot be rationalized. Each individual has a choice regarding belief in God. The church takes that choice away and attempts to narrowly define belief for the common majority.

Like I said the catholic church hasn't always been compasionate. It's had some good leaders and bad leaders...But there are documents that have talked about acceptance of others...Some which are new and some which might be considered old...It was just a point of reference to state that some christians can be kind to others.

If I recall recently the pope has apoligized for the mistakes the church made by not making a stand against the injustice of the jews during WWII. Did they know what the concentration camps would be used for? If they did thats truly ashame. I think the church should have risked the persecution of Hitler to stand against him, but I don't know enough about the pope at that time and his policies. The pope leads the church and tries to interpret what he thinks everything means, but it doesn't make him right or wrong

I can't comment on the Pope telling black GI's to not enter the vatican as I have not heard anything or read anything about that...It's not to say it didn't happen or that it wasn't wrong. I will look to see if I can find stories about it...

Damn you Matt!
I was all over that one.

I know Karl Marx better than I know my roommate.

Anyways. Let me just say this. I believe in Christ and his teachings, but I don't believe in man and its religions. I know that sounds kind of strange, but that's where I am with my own faith. Jesus Christ in my eyes, is someone I can put my trust and faith in, Christianity as a religion is not. Do you kind of follow?

You know I forgot about this, but one of my best friends growing up his parents were from poland and his grandparents were involved during that time...His mothers faimly were involved in building the concentration camps if I remember the story right his grandfather was one of the leaders of the workers and was told it was a work camp that would house those who couldn't fight for the nazis....His grandfather asked why certain buildings were being built the way they were and was told not to ask questions or face charges of conspiracy to overthrow the military leaders

As far as propaganda used on them the Germans Convinced them that the Rusians were the real threat and that the Communist were comming to take over their country, I don't recall them saying anything about propaganda against jews though I'm sure there was some. Since his fathers faimly was part of the Polish Nobility they didn't Like Russians anymore then the Germans but were allowed to keep their lands and money if they would fight against the russians. his fathers parents have told me stories of young men being rounded up at the Catholic churches and given rifles before being sent to the front line to fight the russians. So I got the impression that everyone got screwed in Poland

Needless to say after the war and the execution of faimly members his parents and grandparents fled to the U.S.

Schweeler,

I am a spiritual person but not religious. I feel pretty much the same way you do about prganized religion restricting spiritual development rather than enhancing it.

Religion has a hold in the world that is probably unbreakable.....here in the Northeast US it is less so than areas like the South or Midwest....but around the world, the grip of religious ritual is teh defining characterisitc of civilization.

I was going to start a Scientology thread. Basically bashing the shit out of this preposterous toying of the mind as a true belief system and a religion.

The distruction of the items in afghanistan, while truley tragic show what is preached in bhuddism. If you truley experience reincarnation then you know you can go back and rebuild in your next life. If you so choose.

Wodin, the Talliban are Arab Moslems, destroying the previous cultures Buddhist shrines.
The Talliban are not Buddhist.

The Dali Lhama. There is a leader I have respect for. Why? Because he leads by example and he has experience severe hardship from his
enemies with resorting to demonise them.
The only spiritual giant leader since Ghandi.

I don't believe in any gods either.

Any of you ever wonder how the first god thing came to be?

In my opinion, I think it happened when one human somewhere in ancient ancient times, had a realization that he could sucker people into doing what "he/she" felt was right by telling them there was someone really powerful watching them, and would get upset and make their life hell if they didn't abide.
