I work at an Olive Garden Resturant and I can honestly say this job has made me a racist. I am white, but do you know who hates the "niggers" even more than me? The blacks that work with us... The reason is that the "niggers" that come into our resturant leave a 6% tip. They complain and think that they are gods gift to the world. Our black workers get pissed cause it makes them look bad. I use the word "nigger" in quotes because like someone stated earlier not all black people are niggers. I dont like to call myself racist,Im a middle class white guy but most of the girls I am attracted to are black. My point is that even black people hate blacks, the ones that mess up make the rest of them look bad. Tonight 3 black ladies left me $5.00 on an $80.00 bill and I must say that I am one of the best servers we have. This is why Im quitting, Im not gonna play slave to these people and serve them all their food for a crappy 7% tip...Going rate is 15-20%     | ||

Honestly GLP, "they" would not rape his mother, a couple blacks might, but "they" as a whole race wouldn't. It's all a matter of perception, racism is completely illogical, and as for me, I have NEVER, EVER had a problem with a black person I have come across, of course, colorado is pretty good as far as racial stuff goes..we have a black mayor in denver, etc.. | ||

I still don't attribute it to race or religion. I've had lousy tips from Jews, fucking fat as redneck white people, tight wad suits, black people, chinese (Well, they never leave tips) - but I never sat back and thought "ahh shit, here comes X - no tip here" - I just always worked the hardest I could and hoped for the best. I can't even say poor people left worse tips and then argue that black people make up a large group of that population - I've had really lousy tips from men that I know are very rich... I suppose that is one way to get very rich, hold your money. Anyway, what I'm saying is that the world is full of assholes, all religion, all races - to say all members of them are assholes just b/c of the fuck ups isn't statistically accurate which then makes it just a sweeping generalization. ------------------ Build a man a fire, he is warm for a day. I used to work at a X-mas tree lot in HS, All I did was carry trees, strap them to cars, and get a tip. There were about 15-20 of us, half black and half white, none of us would EVER help the black customers because not only did they not tip well, most of the time, they didn't tip at all. I recall helping some blacks simply because I had no choice, but I know for a fact I NEVER recieved any tip at all, I guess it was cause I was white, thats the only explanation I can think of. It was funny seeing all of the workers scatter when a black customer asked for help. I guess they felt that our services were owed to them, so there was no need to tip, even though we worked for nothing but tips. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Natymike (edited March 02, 2001).] | ||

I used to do the whole waiter thing back in college to get by. With a few exceptions, what has been said so far is 100% true. Of the 100 or so black families I served, 99 left me a tip of less than 8%. And I am used to getting an average tip of 17% because I used to bust my ass for that job. They basically run you ragged and then leave you next to nothing. There was only ONE case in which this was the opposite. I remember him so clearly too....an airline pilot who was former military. I know because I worked in the resturant in the airport and we talked every time he came in. Basically when a black family came into our resturant, everybody cringed.....even the black servers. Nobody wanted the table because they knew there was better than a 95% chance that they would get stiffed. When you took the table you tried to be optimistic and think to yourself, "Not ALL blacks are like this...maybe I'll get lucky this time." Of course you then get burned and for a moment you act like you are suprised that it would happen, even if you did your best. There used to be a "black" resturant that was really popular. But they had a really hard time getting wait-staff. This was told to me by a black woman who I used to work with. She said that nobody will work there because they know that they won't make anything in tips relative to the amount of work that they do. I could go on and on about this, but anyone who disagrees with the "95%" rule needs to get stiffed a few dozen times before they have the right to open their mouth. But it IS a culturally ingrained flaw. That said, it is still a fault that their community needs to work on. Over here in the Philippines, NOBODY tips. People look at me like I'm nuts if I leave even P50 or about $1. They even say, "Why are you leaving a tip? Nobody tips!" I tell them that I know what is like to have to be a servant to someone, and it is a sign of respect and appreciation. And as a result, I get the royal treatment whenever I go out...even to the upscale places in downtown Makati because they see my face, and they know that they will be rewarded for their work. You can thank a server all you want and be really nice. But in the end if there is no money left behind, it is just as bad as them spitting in your face. Money talks. | ||

I am racist and not proud of it, the society in Australia has given the aboriginals the power to do whatever they want with no respnosibility to answer for ,creating a race that is completely selfish, careless and on the path to self destruction. I am racist because i hate living in a town where i know if i walk passed a balck person i will cop some form of abuse, do i wish i was not racist??? i wish they gave me a reason to be fair. | ||

I guess I'm stupid - I don't see how any of these are a factor of race. since each one of you will admit that not 100% of blacks are like that - just "most of them" - then it isn't a true statement. so the only thing you are proving is that some people that don't tip or whatever are black. but that "some" also is made up of other races. I would maintain that you are referring to assholes. there are assholes in every race, and assholes exhibit certain traits - perhaps not tipping is one of them. I just think you are looking at the data presented and coming out with the wrong data. I've seen squirrels get run over by cars in the street before - but I can't make the statement, "all squirrels will get run over by cars" failed logic annoys me - read a book: Maybe you'll learn something. ------------------ Build a man a fire, he is warm for a day. Question: Why are we all arguing about the typical stereotypes that exist and calling those who see the truth in these stereotypes "racists?" Stereotypes are based on truth. They may not apply to EVERY person of a particular race, religion, etc, but they apply to the typical person. Hell, even bodybuilder stereotypes. "Look at him, he's just a big dumb meathead." How many BBs do you know who are capable of carrying on an intelligent conversation and are well-educated? Don't include this board, of course, it's called "Elite" Fitness for a reason, and those intelligent meatheads that we find on here are spread throughout the world and not concentrated in one location (i.e. they are rare.) All of the black stereotypes.... how many black people do you know that don't say "dawg," "nigga," etc... 10x in every paragraph? I'm sure you know a few. So do I, but the typical one that I encounter each day speaks that way. Think of all the bad things you have heard about blacks, whites, asians, hispanics, jews, muslims, catholics, bodybuilders, and anything else you can think of. What does equal opportunity have to do with this topic?? We are sharing similar stories that black customers do not tip well or do not tip at all. I know waiters and they feel the same way, Black or white, nobody wants to help black customers because they are cheap. It seems that most blacks feel that something is society is owed to them because of their color. I guess the services of HS and college students busting their ass is something owed to them. Everyone is like "not all black people are like that" well, your probably right, but most of them are and when your trying to get paid and get by, you don't give a shit about being politically correct, you just want to get PAID. You say that not all black people are like that, well how bout you get a job as a waiter and learn how it really is. ------------------ | ||

i worked in chuck e cheese when i was 16.. all the black people that worked(they were the majority)there, hated working sundays. that was because sunday after church all the black people would come in. they would tear the place up and complain about everything... ------------------ | ||
