Well this is where I am loking. Until I find a house a new complex called Legacy at Western Oaks on La Cresada. Supposed to be a very nice area and these are supposed to be great. Anyone seen these or been in this area?

Elite Bodybuilder Posts: 832 |
i mapped that out, its a bit more south than we are we exit southwest parkway off "mopac" which is 1 we actually dont go much further south on mopac for any reason, so i dont believe i have seen that area, im sure its nice ------------------

Slaughter lane sounds familiar. When I was living there every Sunday I would ride my bike to Wimberly (talk about a work out), and past up Slaugher lane .. it must be new because i don't think anything was there when I was living in Austin.

Re: North Austin. Is a restaraunt, Fonda San Miguel, in NW Austin? Went there last year for dinner when I was at a conference. Great place! ------------------

I found it in Mapquest . Could be a good choice if you're not moving immediately and have a job lined up in South Austin. This is Extreem south Austin, east of Oak Hill, near Circle C . From Austin, take Mopac south past where it splits from 290. (290 goes to Oak Hill, Mopac goes further east.) Mopac crosses William Cannon, then Davis, then Slaughter. The apartments you're looking at are just before Slaughter. I've been watching them build these, and they look like they're going to be nice, if a little close to the freeway. Any reason you want to be this far out of town? Pros: Upscale neighborhood, new, low crime rate. Probably well built, very close to the bicycle veloway for exercise. Cons: Way out on the extreem edges of town. You're probably paying a premium for the closeness to Circle C (very ritzy). You're going to have a lot of traffic if you want to reach midtown or north Austin. What kind of work are you looking for or do you have a job lined up? and where?

If you're pre-reserving one of these, go to their website, click on "Site Plan" and reserve on of the units at the top left of the map, away from the freeway on the bottom of the map.

I currently live in nw austin, but am going apt looking this weekend. SW Austin seems to be a good area so I think I will look this weekend. I really need to find a place ASAP!

Hey, thanks so much John and the rest of you. I've been told its about 15 minutes from downtown. Its $1,900 a month for the 3 bedroom and I have always liked quite upscale areas as I am not a city boy. In Orlando I live in Metrowest which is upscale and about 20 minutes from downtown. I will be flying there within the next few weeks if I accept this offer. If any of you go by let me know what you think and again thanks again. We will need to have an elite get together in Austin. I maybe joining powerhouse which I have been told is downtown.
Olympian Posts: 1607 |
Natymike have you seen these? comments? I will also be having a apt hunter as well as a realestate agent showing me around to amke sure I choose the right area.
Olympian Posts: 1726 |
nah, I haven't seen them, basically everything is North of me, I rarely go as south as Slaughter. I'll check them out for you if you want. ------------------
Olympian Posts: 1726 |
actually, I drive by there all the time, there is tons of shit in that area, I just haven't noticed the apts, I'll check it out. ------------------

If you work downtown 9-5 then that place is an hour from downtown when you need it. Yeah, you might be able to make it in 20 when there's no traffic. The closest gym to that place is World Gym on William Cannon. World has "anywhere" rates for all their locations, and there is a World Gym downtown as well, but not as new as Powerhouse. $1900 is outrageous, but I'm not used to rates on 3 bedrooms. Personally I really like Gaines Ranch Apts, and they're closer in to town. There are also a lot on new apartment complexes being built downtown. Elite Bodybuilder Posts: 1096 |
CRAP you used to ride your back to Wimberly from Austin....I'm majorly impressed...that is a good distance even driving...how far was the route you took? I've got a cousin who lives out there and I think it's really pretty
Olympian Posts: 1607 |
Johnny you always impress me. However I have no idea where you rode to and from and who rode you back as I don't live there yet. Whats the distance? The prices on 3 bedrooms seem to start at 1450 or so and this one is top of the line applinaces, berber capret, marble and the likes. Its a premium package.

It's like 120 - 140 miles round trip depending on where I took off at from Austin. Actually thats not very far, but there are some major hills you have to climb. Lance Armstrong used to do that route 5 times a week. I think it would be cool to get a corporate sponser and train all the time.
Elite Bodybuilder Posts: 832 |
get a "luxury" apartment finder or they may not understand that u are willing to dish out the bucks for a good apt. not a standard finder.. they suck usually
Olympian Posts: 1607 |
Thanks dread. i have one who knows what it is I am loking for. I am very picky and will spend the money and she knows that. You guys and gals are very helpfull thanks so much. Johnny that is very fuckin impressive. Recall when I asked you about getting a bike? I had in mind 1 mile or so a day. Guess I should get training wheels. Dam. Will be curious to see if you can do that as you gain 25 pounds?

let me know if you go. | ||
Elite Bodybuilder Posts: 1096 |
yeah Johnny I was thinking about the hills really but the distance would be far for most people...When I was younger and lived in Coppell an aunt of mine would take us biking from their to Los Colinas and around irving...I don't know how she had the guts to do this with a 12 and 10 year old without helmets...

I don't gain any weight when I ride that much .. I lost about 5 or 10 pounds when I did my last ride in October, it was 360 miles, and I was a peanutbutter and milk fiend too then.
Elite Bodybuilder Posts: 1043 |
I smell an austin-elite party at the Dreads place. ------------------
Elite Bodybuilder Posts: 1096 |
yeah that would be cool...I like their place, it's cozzy...Superdave how come you didn't come over for the XFL opening game. We made makeshift fajitas and drank yalls left over beer from the superbowl

Guess I will have some new friends? Johnny I was speaking of your new training program and the weight you will gain.
Moderator Posts: 4687 |
OH my new training program. hehehe I'm up 10 pounds! Water weight I'm sure. I'm now 185. And it hasn't been a week yet. Of course I've stopped doing cardio and I eat something every two hours, so it might just be a reflection in my new routine and diet.
Elite Bodybuilder Posts: 832 |
hahaha yeah, you guys are all welcome :> someone asked about Gregory Gym: ------------------
Olympian Posts: 1607 |
I would most likely do powerhouse downtown. How far is Texas U from south Austin?
Olympian Posts: 1726 |
its 10-15 minutes with light traffic, just don't try going around rush hour, it will take 30-45 to go 15 miles. You will discover that traffic here is ridiculous. There are some nice Gym's in South austin, Worlds & Fitness Connection. Both open 24 hours, I don't think powerhouse is 24hours. ------------------
Olympian Posts: 1607 |
I truly hope there is no BALLYS there so I can shove htere contract up there corporate butt.
Olympian Posts: 1726 |
no Bally's, There are 7 World gym locations, 1 Fittness Connection, and a bunch of smaller gyms. Basically, Worlds has a stranglehold on this town. ------------------
Elite Bodybuilder Posts: 1096 |
Good luck with Ballys....They were still trying to bill me a year after my contract was over and almost 2 years after I moved to west Texas
Olympian Posts: 1607 |
Ballys requires a lease and electri bill with the contract and they will get that. They mess with me I will sick my high payed lawyers on them.

Quality of life pros: Nice landscape, lots of trees, hills, scenic Lakes, Rivers. Hiking, biking, bicycle veloway (though riding a bike on city steets is chancy). Great live music scene if you like "the Austin style". Festivals: art festival, SXSW music festival, 3 film festivals (1 gay, 2 straight), street festivals, gardening shows, etc Symphony & opera, and several Broadway plays come thru town each year. Good air but we do have some smoggy days. Good restraunts, great mexican food, though few with "high end" decore. Cons: HOT HOT HOT Summers, higher humidity than you had in Plano, but less than Orlando. TV advertising drives me nuts - all the ads seem to think we are all cowboys! Waiters that don't speak english. Lots of Bubbas - "If it's worth doin' right we'll do it right next time". August water restrictions. No street actually goes anywhere except the highways and the highways are frequently clogged. Mass transit just failed its bond vote. More allergy specialists per capita than anywhere (and needs them). Current city council tries to locate everything downtown in spite of the fact the traffic arterials can't handle the traffic going downtown already. I enjoyed Austin when I was there. My biggest critisim is there is no "neighorhood" .. I guess it's not big enough for that. I'm enjoying moving back into the city with "family". I don't think austin has such a place. |
