Considering the debate yesterday on "Is TV good, bad, ugly, etc." and the challenge to not watch it for a month...a challenge that I could not accept...I ask you all this...

What do you watch and why??

Currently, I follow 4 weekly television programs.

1)Boston Public, Fox, Monday nights--having just gotten out of high school two years ago, and having two parents who have worked for my former school district for about a decade, I can attest to the truthfulness of this show...that is reality and those are some of the problems that modern public education is facing! The critics who say it is "too far-fetched" are themselves--in my opinion--not 'with the times.'

2)Ally McBeal, Fox, also on Monday nights--I enjoy the antics of all the characters...I watched the show Picket Fences years ago and Ally has the same sarcastic themes. Again, the topics, cases, and tribulations of these characters are representative of what's becoming of our judicial system!

3)Friends, NBC, Thursday nights--Basically, it's funny as all-get-out! During this half hour, I can sit with my own friends and joke about who would play who, who's had something similar happen, etc. This is the biggest "release" that I get from TV!

4)ER, NBC, also on Thursday nights--Being a big fan of Crichton, I have been an ER fan since its inception years ago. Having seen interviews with real ER staff members, and knowing that Crichton himself was/is a doctor, shows me that this show is realistic.

****WHAT DO YOU WATCH AND WHY??

****DO YOU HONESTLY THINK THIS KIND OF TV WATCHING IS UNHEALTHY OR UNPRODUCTIVE??

Just curious...

Entertainment industry always takes a hit when govt. can't figure out how to correct society's ills. It's anyeasy target for blame. I watch 4 shows regularly:
1. Buffy/Vanpire Slayer
2. OZ
3. Soprano's
4. Sex & The City
Why? None of them dumb down to their audience.

I watch old episodes of He-Man & The Masters of the Universe and The Incredible Hulk... not exactly TV, but the picture comes out through my TV. Does that count?

Other than that, I don't watch TV.

I had a satellite dish for about a year. I got over 400 channels and watched television all of the time. When my year contract was over I neglegted to renew because I was tired of spending $80 a month. Too lazy to call a normal cable company, I just went without it. Only two months later, I hate T.V. You get addicted to those shows, you sit there and watch someone else's fake life, that if you just got out of your house and off your ass, you could be living the life you are watching. It's weird because I've been watching T.V. like mad for the last 24 years and thought it was great and that all the slams against T.V. were bullshit. Now I see it's right. I remember when I was a kid my dad would be so in tuned with T.V. when he got home from work, he wouldn't hear a word that any of us said. It especially bothered me during dinner, when I got older, it was "Family Time" and I had to eat dinner with them, and he'd just be zoned to the tube. And that's the problem with T.V. American families, and maybe other countries, but it'd be mere speculation since I am not sure, are so addicted to the tube that if you took the average joe family, took their T.V. from them for a week, they wouldn't no what to do. T.V. kills communication between families, and quality time. T.V. is wasted time. Now I don't want to use that freely, there are shows on T.V. that are educational and interesting. I'm talking more about the no brain shows like Friends, Survivor, all those other night time soap operas. I think it's sad that if you take a family, kill their T.V. they are lost. If they'd kill their T.V. there could be a lot more done, and more memorable moments than the break up of Ross and Rachel. I have nothing against the people that sit down and watch an hour or so of T.V. a night. It's the people that get home from work at 5:30; turn the tube on; plop their ass down with the remote and watch T.V. until they go to sleep. So much more could be done. Sorry about the long rant.
