Just wondering who's read some good sci-fi/fantasy stuff lately, or who your all-time favorites are. Here's my brief, non-comprehensive list off the top of my head: Dark Tower series, by Stephen King

well I thought I'd respond...I'm not a sci fi nut....last fictional book I read was Jurassic Park..... This one kid I went to high school with who was wicked smart, used to read a Stephen King book every day. He'd finish a 500 plus book during classes, breaks and lunch. And have a new one everyday. Yeah he was kinda a nerd, but big and into the black morbid thing so no one fucked with him. He was a sweety though

I don't have much time to read, but I watch a lot of sci/fi and I do quite a bit of research and discussions into possibilities. And yes, I do believe in UFO's and other alien civilazations. I also believe in the impossible being possible, just that we have not found the answer to the problem yet. ------------------

I used to read a lot of sci-fi, guess the most sci-fi -ish book i read was one by isac asimov, and it was so long ago i forgot the title, but its the last in the series. ------------------

I've read them all at one time or another, from Tolkien to eddings....Austin, I would suggest the Sword of Truth seris by Terry Goodkind, starting with Wizards First Rule...by far the best I have ever read...Terry Brook's Shannara series is great as well...and I agree, Robert Jordan's WOT novels are growing very tiring to me... I am also around 80,000 plus/minus words into my novel as well...Later BZR

I was gonna write a sci fi fantasy book at one time, I had just finished writing a 50 page short story for an english class and wanted to start a book, I had trouble with coming up with names and town names and such, got frustrated, and stopped, maybe Ill get back to it when I have time. Are the Goodkind books fast pacedfrom the get go like Dragon Lance, FR, or slow to build up to anything like LOR trilogy, I liked LOR but I almost gave up on it cause it started off so damn slow

Austin-- Definitely read Jordan's WOT series. At least the first couple of books. There were seven books in the series when I started reading it, and I read them back to back all the way through without reading anything else. I'm also interested in hearing more about Terry Goodkind. I've come close to starting the Sword of Truth series a couple of times. How you compare that style to, say, Salvatore's style? BTW... anyone into hardcore sci-fi/fantasy that will blow your mind, read Gene Wolfe. It's not easy reading. But the language and world are equally incredible.

any book that has the same style as Salvatore, Weis/Hickman I am definately willing to read. If u have only read up through Icewind Dale and liked em, keep reading cause it gets better. I just hope Drizzt is in the next book cause hes not in the 2 newest ones. I love reading, it gives me something to do at work hehe. I can usually make myself get into most any fictional book, not all, but most

Austin admit it. You used to play Dungeons & Dragons didn't you. The only reason I know is because I used to also. I don't read as much as I should, but I hear Phillip K. Dick is an awesome sci-fi author. I do like sci-fi movies like Blade Runner, one of my all time favorites.

Goodkinds style is unique and a cross bewteen many fantasy writers...the plot is very well concieved, and the pace moves nicely along....I think you will enjoy them, and they stay on the New York Times bestseller list as they come out... BZR
