what is the main thing? what is the least important thing?

making a great living as far as income? having all the toys? raising loving children? having an excellent love life/relationship? etc... what is it that you would define your life with?

i have always said my job does not make me who i am, its just what i do to get by day to day... i personally think the most important aspect of happiness for me is love. yet, i would not want to live in a box, so of course i know you couldnt have JUST one thing, it would have to be one big thing then SOME smaller stuff... if i could only have ONE GOOD thing it would be money... how else can you live and have any happiness without cash?

Being happy and having people around you that you love and love you no matter how much you make or what you look like and being able to laugh freely.

Sounds easy, but its pretty difficult at least for materialstic money hungry and ambition driven people like a slo pain.

A good life. To me that would encompass the following ideas.

A. A wife to share all my trials and tribulations with, a woman I adore, that I love to be with. A person that knows everything about me, and vice versa. A best friend and a wife all in one. I'd say a wife that could bring tears to my eyes just by thinking of how much I love her.

B. A job, not only one that pays well, but a job that I wake up in the morning and am excited to go to work. One that makes me feel good about who I am, one that I am positive I am making a difference, and helping people along the way.

C. Family - With a great wife, you'd have to have a few great kids along the way.

I'd say these, with good health, would be the foundation to a good, happy life.

Never having to say: "I can't afford that right now." Always waking up with a smile on my face. Always going to sleep with a smile on my face.

It doesn't get any better than that.

FREEDOM.

It's all about FREEDOM. Money can help but it can also hurt. I'd rather work for myself at $100K than someone else at $200K.

Sometimes money ties you down and causes you to lose freedom. It's not about the cash. Anyone who has lost a few hundred grand will tell you that. It's FREEDOM to exercise your mind, travel, not be stressed out about much.....and this allows the whole of you to develop.

madbomber,

The acquisition of personal wealth is now the driving force in my life. I tried the woman thing, but I don't see why I should bother with mediocrity.

In my limited experiences, she's either not looked how I wanted her to, not been able to carry on an intelligent conversation, not enjoyed doing the same things I liked doing, had no common sense, etc. I don't think I'll ever be happy with a woman until I find a clone of myself with breasts and a vagina.

That being said, why bother wasting my time looking for the nonexistant woman? If she shows up, great, but why dedicate my life to finding something that might not exist?

I often think of the day that I will be able to walk into a store - any store - and just smile knowing that I could walk out with anything that I wanted. I often think of the day that I turn 45 or 50, go outside to grab the morning paper, and see that my neighbor is on his way to work... I smile and know that I won't be following him. I often think of the day that I can be awake for 16 hours and know that I have no problems, no worries, no stress, and no hassles. Oh yes... it's tingling.

I--100%--agree with what Crazy1 said, except I'd put having great kids to look upon above having a good job...but I think they're all interrealted and that's why they're labeled A,B,C instead of 1,2,3!

Warik, there will always be something you can't have, and only aiming to "attain" will eventually drive you insane in my opinion, and I'm a pure Capitalist...money is simply a tool...not a reason to live! It makes things easier, but doesn't make them! And what good is having all that if you've got no one to share it with??

Badkins,

What could I possibly want that money can't buy?

What good is having all that if I've got no one to share it with? I'll get myself a doggy and spoil him. Or maybe I'll just settle for a mediocre woman after I've met my financial goals in life. Don't want to worry about two things at once, ya know?

FREEDOM. If all you seek is the acquisition of material things, you'll never be free. You'll be so shallow as to be hollow. Pursuit of wealth is a worthless cause unless accompanied by freedom.

Without freedom, you'll never develop completely in an emotional and spiritual sense.

And you can't buy that.

actually matt... money does buy freedom... if you have the cash you are free to do whatever you wish... travel, games, toys, girls, boys (if you wish), etc.. etc.. you have the freedom to read or write for however long you wish... you have the freedom to experience so much more than the average dick (dont like average joe's).

warik, your reply to me made sense... but within that sense i also think you are just putting "love" on the backburner for now but when that girl that encompasses all you want is placed before you, you will recognize her existance and importance more so than you let on now.

MB,

Far from the truth brother. All it will do is consume still more of your time. The accumulation of wealth and the accumulation of freedom are inter-related, but different.

hell yeah TX! well said.

This thread also reminds me of the movie "Boiler Room"

The guy says " The people who say that money is the rude of all evil, don't have any. Look at the fucking grin on my face! I'm a fuckin millionare"

Even though I don't want to be money driven, it can bring a lot of happiness.

I am certain that I will. I don't trouble myself with that sort of thing anymore, though. Too many bad experiences. I find a girl I like, things go great for a few days/weeks, then suddenly I find out that we're on totally different pages and I'm down and depressed for weeks or months. Can't get anything done... blah blah blah. My last encounter was terrible.

When I'm NOT worried about women at all, I'm perfectly happy fooling around on the computer, watching old episodes of several of my favorite TV series that I won on eBay, working out, and filling my wallet. Since I can't seem to find the perfect (for me) female specimen, why bother looking if it will just upset me when I fail?

If she finds me, great. If she doesn't, I will still have been happy for all that time, no? Sure, she might have made me happier, but then again, I can't miss what I never knew.

Being with a girl I like doing anything with. From going to the gym to going to a bar, I want to have fun and be able to include her in what my friends do.

I want a nice house. It doesn't have to be big at all, just cool. Big TV, DVD player, nice stereo.

Nice car too. My dream car is an M3.
