Don't be a dummy. There are a few lucky people out there who can make it in the world good without college. And these people are smart enough to go to college anyhow. Go to college when your young and get it over with. ![]() ![]() ![]()

If you want to save cash go to a state school. I spent time at one of the most expensive colleges in the country, and let me tell you, the money does not go to better teaching, it goes all to posh facilities and the prestigious name. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Dread, Some succeed in college and it prepares them for future success. Most get 4 years of mediocrity, and then spend the next 50 aspiring to it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Not everything about the college education is about what you learned in class. I am in complete agreement with those of you that say to learn it off the net or just go to your public library - hell, I still look at my college course book lists and will buy them off amazon and learn new shit - but I'm a geek. That said, I woud gladly go to college again and pay for it again (well, heavy financial aid) - if you are going to some shit state school and want to party all the time, then use it to meet people, build up your social skills, learn about drinking. If you are actually going to a good school, get to know the profs, especially the big name ones - frequently they are profs b/c they don't need the money and they are big names in their field. Get to know your fellow classmates - many of them have famous parents, and many of them will go on to be very big names. I went to school with the aga kahn (sp?) - price of the muslim nation. another guy's dad was the ceo of coke, another guy's dad was the ceo of bank one. another guy's dad was the head guy in the drug cartel on the island of mauritis (again sp?). For the most part, these guys were dicks - but getting on the good side of them will never hurt you in the long run - it is all about the connecitons you can make. Later in life if you are sitting at your job and something comes up where you need one fo these guys, bam - you can pull back your college experience and that money is all of the sudden worth it. Of course none of that matters if you plan on delivering pizza or pumping gas for the rest of your life - but if you want to start your own company, nothing beats dating a girl whose dad owns 2 investment banks and a venture capital firm - as well as knowing 2 other girls whose parents are also in venture capital. Not to mention my friends that are now in those fields as well. If I had just sat on my ass learning shit off the internet (which I have done a lot of), I never would have made such connections, nor built up any social skills. remember, college isn't all about the classes. ------------------ Build a man a fire, he is warm for a day. Scrappy, Good point. The majority, though, do not attend schools where those people are. One of my best friends went to Wharton, and he knows people like the ones you described...many of the kids were fucked up though, as you said. Now, it's been 15 years since he graduated - almost all his classmates are successful in some regard (not too hard to find a job out of Wharton) and it helps him to know these people. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
