Plato thought that the world around us was just a shadow an impression of a more real, more vibrant world that was just beyond the pale of our perceptions. Godel, a famous philosopher and mathmatician also shared this view of the world but neither had any real proof. Science has given us the exact knowledge that the conscous mind perceives everything in the world around us a half a second after it has occured. A half second is forever! If you don't believe me run a 100 meter dash with someone who is a half second faster than you. See, it is all just one big perceptual illusion. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Who was it that thought everything on earth was an imperfect copies of the perfect/correct item in heaven. And that as human we were imcapable of building or making perfect items. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Cleaner, I think you're on the same page as Wodin here... "Plato's Cave" is the theory, explained by a picture of men sitting in a cave, facing inside and to a wall, seeing the shadows of the world behind them...I switched majors from Philosohpy to English last year, so it's been a while since I discussed this...basically there are "forms" out there, behind us, that are the perfect image of a thing...all chairs, no matter what shape, size, etc., fit the basic form of 'chair,' and desks are the same, and so on and so forth... I'm an Objectivist, though, so I don't buy the 'cave' crap... ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Objectivism is a philosophy based on rational selfishness, a strict code of ethics, and--politically--pure Laissez-Faire Capitalism. It was basically "started" by the Russian-American author Ayn Rand in the early-mid 20th century in books like 'We the Living,' 'The Fountainhead,' 'Atlas Shrugged' (her masterpiece), and 'Anthem.' Please feel free to e-mail me any questions you have regarding these ideas or books, I have read just about every book--fiction, no-fiction, essays, etc.--that she ever wrote. You can also visit www.aynrand.org for more information regarding Objectivism today, and also a more detailed description of the ideas in general... To contrast it, I would use Socialism, Communism, Collectivism, Altruism, and Pessimism as my first examples of what Objectivism is NOT! Let me know what you think kat... ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

It is a fact that the brain sparks a signal to move your finger anwhere from 1.5 to .5 seconds before you actually move it. You become "Conscous" of the movement at .25 seconds and that you have actual control, movement of the finger at .02 seconds. So For about .25 seconds your are unconscous of your decision to move your finger. It's a fact that I'm stating here, not a theory. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
