I have one, but am thinking of venturing out on my own. Mine made me a shitload of money the first few years but has been struggling lately, like everyone else. I think it is good to start of with one until you know what your doing somewhat. The extra commissions are worth it in the begininng if your broker is good. To my advantage I have a few friends that are brokers, so I have stock tips coming at me left and right. ![]() ![]() ![]()

If your nervous. Put a buy in at 2 and put a sale in at 3. Take the profit and reinvest it on your winnings. I say winnings, because the market is the same as Vegas, unless you know something. I have been riding with Ultrak (ULTK) for about 3 years now. I have a solid stay at buy at 4.5 and sale at 6. I have just been riding this roller coster company for a good time now. This would not work for a company that continues to preform, because if I sold at 6 it would never dip back down for me to buy again. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hell no, what if it goes down to $1 in a week, I've seen it happen. If you do that, make sure you get a guy with a Master's degree in Business to go over their yearly goals and plans. I'd put probably 1/3 in mutaul funds, 1/3 in some high risk, and 1/3 in low risk. Diversification is the key. When you buy cheap stocks you have to sell them somewhat quickly, which means they will tax the fuck out of you. ![]() ![]() ![]()

If you don't mind the risk then no big deal...i would feel uneasy putting 50k in a stock like that, but then again if you feel the company will go up like that and you don't mind putting that much money on the line then go for it. If 50k is just change for you then it would be interesting to see what happens.... I have a Datek account. It's pretty much no thrills but the prices for trades isn't that bad. If your looking at investing in different markets why don't you visit a few different brokers and find some that specialize in your different areas of interest. Talk with them and see what they think and what their strategies for your money would be. If you go with a broker I wouldn't invest in different areas with the same broker just what he/she specializes in. Someone else might have a better solution since I'm relatively new with the market myself, this just seems like a common sense approach when dealing with brokers ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

be careful on these speculative stocks. Whatever happened to investing in companies that had a solid balance sheet and income statement? My strategy? Look for companies that have products that I would buy over and over and check their financials. I may not get rich overnight, but I don't have to worry about rollercoasters either. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Brokers only make money when you buy or sell a stock. Therefore, it is in their interst to encourage you to make transactions that are not necessarily in your best interest. Also, the question about buy at 2 sell at 4 is only worthwhile if you are dealing with $10,000 or more....much less than that and the broker will take too big of a chunk of your gains. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

steel beast...forget full service brokers they charge way to much in commissions and tend to encourage churning accounts because they make a commission each time you trade whether you lose or gain. An S&P index fund outperforms the vast majority of brokers. Do like someone said and look for solid value and have a long term horizon. Forget speculating except with money you can afford to lose. Also, if you buy a stock at $2 it is just as likely to go to $1 as it is to $4. Or to put it simply, that is a very good way to lose 50 grand. Good luck. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
