It's frustrating.

I seldom have trouble but when I do it's just a question of taking a couple of strong anti-histamines (Pro-methazine) or sex.

Are you on a cycle right now?

I know how you feel I've been battling with
insomnia for many years now.Have you been feeling depressed or been having any anxiety
since all this started? If so you should go
see a Dr. preferably a Psychyitrist.Thats what I did.I am now on Paxil in the AM & Trazodone before bed.All though my sleep
is probably not as good as most people I
still say it's gotten 10 times better than before.I dont know what brought on the
insomnia,it may have something to do with
all the drugs I did in the 90's ,hehe!

Fuck it why be normal...

I have had a major problem with insomnia for the past 10 years. I have a tendency of going through cycles -- I will sleep on average about 2 - 3 hours per night for about 4-6 months and then I will sleep well for about 30-45 days. The cycle then repeats. I have not tried sleeping pills -- I don't want to go down that road -- but I have found that Valarien Root helps me. When I start falling into my insomnia problem, I pop 2-3 pills before bed. It helps me regulate my sleep patterns again. I may not sleep the whole night through, but it will help me get a few more hours.

Tman have you had a problem with puffiness
or dark circles around the eyes?

Everytime I go back into insomnia I get that
look.

scott825, the baggy eyes and dark circles - that is how I always look. no matter how much I sleep, I'm still tired. sucks.
careful of that trazadone - I used that in high school and then quit it while in college - you have to be very careful when coming off of it, it is some nasty shit.

Happyscrappy if your sleeping alot but always
tired you may have "sleep apnea" ..

I know what your saying about the Trazodone
but its fairly cheap & is non addictive.I
went down that whole path with Ambien,Xanax
& valium they are very effective but after
a couple of weeks you just have to take more
& more.Its a nightmare.

I agree, very frustrating. I'm currently using 6mg Melatonin 30min before bed.
Works pretty well, though sometimes I wake up at 3-4am.
I wouldn't touch Xanax. One of my friends mother is on Xanax and over time it's really made her loopy.
She's totally addicted to the stuff.

Very true,,,Thats why you have to take something that will treat the underlying problem.Melatonin does not do much for us true insomniacs but if it works for you then good.

I too have the insomnia problem.. I can't sleep for shit... For the last year my doc prescribed me Xanax (1mg) and told me to take 1/2 a tab before bed... That knocked me out cold and I felt great the next day...after a while though.. 1/2 tab (and a few beers..not a good combo) didn't put me to sleep..so I took 1 tab at night...Then in the mornings and for part of the day I would feel kinda hazy...a few times I got so desperate that I took 2 tabs.... My prescription ran out in December and I haven't taken any since.. I didn't feel like I was addicted to them..but I didn't want to take the chance and become addicted to them..Now I just toss and turn at night.... ho hum

Scott, I have that problem for about the first two weeks, but then it pretty much goes away. I think my body adjusts to the lack of sleep and learns how to function on the amount it is getting. I don't fall back into a normal sleep pattern until I am absolutely exhausted.

I will not go to a doctor or take drugs to cure this. Sometimes I drink a couple beers around 1AM and by 2-2:30AM and will be in bed. Then I sleep good.
This may sound weird but if I switch which end of the bed my head rests on I can sleep better. I don't know how to explain that but it worked for me for like 10 years.
I also have lots of weird dreams that wake me up at night.
I know I need to stop taking naps in the day but I really can't help falling asleep in the afternoon. Today I will refuse to nap at all costs. Maybe this will help.

melatonin gives me some wacked out dreams. i still take it though.

i like a couple of bong hits or a cap of ghb. problem is, as soon as i feel buzzed i want to stay up and do things to enjoy my high, so i end up going to bed late anyway.

I didn't nap at all during the day today and now I still can't sleep. I also didn't drink or go out tonight. If I would have drank I would be able to sleep now.
I have to get up early too.

fuck.

I used to take some valerian root with some hops and I believe skullcap in a cap form. I would take about 6 caps and it does help. Real natural sleep, without the chemical hangover.

I now use halcion .25 mg one to 2 tabs works fine and does not build a fast tolerance like other benzodiazepan derivitives, like xanax, valium and so on.

This is my experience, you might find a herb shop in your area and see if they might have a blend of herbs that will help.

Good luck and get a goodnights sleep. I am addicted to 8 to 10 hours and relish it when I can without waking up during the night.

Screw all that herbal shit, get yourself some Ambien (by prescription only) and you'll sleep a good eight hours with very little to no residual AM sleepiness (like the feeling some people get from Tylenol PM, etc). Try an initial dose of only half a tablet, works wonders for me. I've been an insomniac for over ten years and I've tried everything, this stuff really works, My .02
