Benelli M1 Super 90. I guarantee you could cut somebody in half. You should check it out.

Vang Comp Remington 870 or the Mossberg 590 (cheap and VERY reliable). Get a pump action, stay away from Semi-auto's. IG [This message has been edited by Iron God (edited February 22, 2001).]

Check around for a Benalli(sp?) tactical shotgun. I'll ask my uncle what model number his is. I think because he's works for the INS he was able to get one. I thought it felt pretty light weight. Perhaps someone else here has a clue about what I'm talking about here...

Stay away from Benelli and HK simply not worth the money.. A shotgun is a shotgun. Here where to go to get the best. IG

Hey Shaggy, I drop in now and then. But them women keep me hopp'en So I've got a good direction on the gun. NOW, what do you all think for the loads? Remember it's for self defence, not hunting turkey or deer. ------------------ Lobo

I would go with the Benelli or the Remington 870. You can get "assault" type accesories for the Remingtons. I don't like Mossberg, they are junk. They were only made famous by Rap guys who don't know whit about firearms. Warlobo...I am envisioning you as the "Lone Biker of the Apocalypse" like in Raising Arizona! ------------------

I have to vote for the 870. I have a Mossberg and Remington. I don't have anything against the Mossie, but the 870 is smoother. The Benelli is nice, but the $$$$$$$? ------------------

Federal Tactical 00 Buck (grey box), Its got reduced recoil without sacrificing balistics. Without a doubt one of the best self-defense loads out there.

Can you cycle rounds?? As in one load a slug, the next round a 00, the next a slug, and so on? (Might need a tracer :P) ------------------ Lobo

It's called "Candy Caning". Not recommended for home defense. Load up the tube with all 00 buck and keep slugs in the side saddle and do a manual load, if you need a slug. IF you want a good book on shotguns and how to deploy, train and maintain them.

Check out crossfirellc.com, they have a 12 gauge, .223 rifle combination that I will be ordering soon. I have a mossberg 500 at this time, this is a very nice weapon for the price, I load it with 000 buck, followed by slugs for home defense, I like having the availability of longer range if needed, that is why I will be ordering the crossfire, I will only load 000 buck in it. Anyone know the best round to use in .223?

like laserdude said...the winchester defender is a good choice if you are on a budget. There are alot of good shotguns but some are pricey. The winchester is about $200 new, 8 shot magazine, reliable. Just get any good quality gun and you should be happy. Btw, i keep mine full of 00 buckshot. ------------------

For the .223 Hornady XTP 55gr polymer tip is an awesome self defense round for indoors, for the polymer is explosive against soft targets (no over-penetration) yet will dissipate when it comes into contact with a wall. As for outdoors any good fatory load will do (Russian is good for plinking) but for real use go with either NATO 63 grain (IF your barrrel twist rate is tight enough) or 55 grain standard for 1/9 or 1/12 twist rates. Sierra make an Awesome Blitz King bullet also (if you reload).

The sierra company makes some of the best bullets you can find for reloading. Very accurate, spendy to a degree with the accuracy is the deal. I have been shooting the 22-250 55 grain, and the .308 all being boat tail match grades and you can put a bullet through a bullet hole if you practice and get your scope right on the money. Real fun when you can put 12 shots into a spot about a little bigger than a quarter. |
