I've lived in Austin Tx., Dallas Tx., San Francisco Ca, Long Beach Ca., Westchester County Ny. and back to Austin. They're all great for way different reasons. Austin's pretty and has a lot of outdoor recreation, but is ungodly hot in the summer. Dallas is more politically conservative, and the natural scenery is not as pretty. But more jobs, and great shopping. San Francisco was exciting and a lot of fun, but the central core is chilly all the time from the fog coming in off the ocean. Politically very liberal, and home to a lot of political correctness thought police. The outer suburbs are wonderfull. More moderate politics and warmer weather. Check the earthquake maps, or you'll buy a house on top of a fault zone. Long Beach was wonderfull weather, everybody lives in shorts and bathing suits year round. I saw them putting up town Christmas decorations wearing swimming suits. Again check the earthquake zones. And there are a lot of neighborhoods that just aren't safe. Future issues with Water rationing. Westchester County Ny. - upper class, forested, jobs, commute to NY for shopping, very expensive cost of living but the salaries are higher also. Did I mention RAIN! and SNOW! There's a couple of places I wish I had lived.

With all honesty, I plan on living in The Woodlands, Texas, which is where I graduated high school ...it's small enough not to be too crowded, but big enough not to be a small town...EXTREMELY low crime rate, some of the best schools in the nation, and it's very clean...and it's close enough to Houston if you like the hustle and bustle! We have the reputation of being snobs, but I could really give a sh*t...I'd much rather be made fun of for wearing Tommy Hilfiger clothes and having a cell phone (that's actually how we were "made fun of" at our rival school's pep rallies) than be made fun of for being an uneducated hick!! I'm sure JohnnyO can back up what I've said, although it's a bit too conservative for his taste I bet... ------------------

The Woodlands are nice! My uncle lived there, and I loved visiting. Actually, I'm a little tired of Big D. Maybe somewhere near the ocean....... Do I have to take my family with me? What are the ground rules? hehe ------------------

I'll stay right here in FL. The weather is GRRRRRREAT! I'm 45 min. from either coast. As far as jobs easy to find almost anywhere, Real Estate is where it's at and cost of living is fairly good. Love it here. [This message has been edited by kartchick83 (edited February 19, 2001).]

Right here in southeast Florida! I live and work 3 blocks from the beach. My only regret is that I lived in NY for 18 years before moving here

Frackel, Detroit would be my choice also. I love the Cold as hell winter which lasts 7 months. then after the Cold you can look forward to potholes the size of a Ford Focus..... The sports team are second to no one!!!!!! Our teams are so great that guys quit in their prime just to get the hell out! We have a brand new Baseball field and the team sucks even more now?!! MAN I LOVE DETROIT............. dont mind poon he just woke up!!!!!!

I've only lived in San Francisco and New York, so I don't have a wide basis for comparison, but I definitely like New York much more than San Francisco, where I grew up. NY is more cosmopolitan and has far more to do. Plenty of jobs. There's a competitive spirit here that makes living here fun and encourages me to perform highly. There's no place I'd rather go.

Badkins21 would that be Conroe highschool or OakRidge? Personally I think it's only a matter of time before the City of Houston Annexes Klein where i'm from, then the woodlands will be infested with the people I grew up around who will want to live where the property values are still worth something... I've moved all over Tx and Would move back to San Angelo if I could start over and be rich, only because I would buy a ranch house and some land, and would build myself a kickass gym...Accuna Mexico is only 2 hrs away so plenty of shopping to do there Snowboarding in New Mexico would be about a half days drive or I could go to Colorado with about a days drive.

I was referring to Conroe High School, they'd dress up in expensive clothes and pretend to have real cell phones in an attempt to insult us...BWHAHAHAHA... ------------------

Yeah Conroe was a joke for us when I went to Klein, every sport I played it was like those guys came after us as if they stood a chance in beating us...Oh the good ole days...We thought reguardless of how bad we might play against someone we would bet that Conroe would play worse...They made fun of us too, mostly cause there were alot of BMW's, jags, corvettes, a few porcheses at my highschool...Hell I made fun of some of the people I went to school with... |
