Are you an extremist right-wing elitist?

Kat, Every time I see my name as the title of the post, I know it's going to be something interesting. Extremist? Nahhh. I have sharply held viewpoints but you won't see me blowing up buildings or anything. I'm actually quite easy-going. Right-wing? Well....maybe more conservative than liberal, but in a political context you could just say I want the US constitution to be followed, especially teh 10th Amendment. (States rights. This was the founders' check against the ballooning central government.) But I am quick to criticize conservative viewpoints when they are fucked up....for example, I don't think the governement should attempt to legislate morality. And I think abortion should be legal.....just discouraged. Elitist? Well...that's a tough one. Perhaps "individualist" would be a better term. By that, I mean, we tend to create laws to the lowest common denominator, and I wish that could stop. We cater to the incapable, and in doing so, restrain those who are more gifted. Is wishing that woud end, a form of elitism? Then I am elitist. Where did this come from?

Slo, Yeah I have read quite a bit of Ayn Rand.....I agree with a good deal of it. But a lot of these thoughts, I had before I ever heard of her....she just beat me to it by like 50 years...

I enjoyed her concepts - mainly b/c I identified with them - but I found her books so annoying to read b/c she would just beat the points into your head over and over again. granted I'm not Matt, but I like to see myself type. ------------------

Yes at times the novel quickly turned into a lecture for 30 pages. But thats alright, thats why I was reading them, to listen to those 'lectures'. She was ahead of her time. ------------------ For a good time click here: Search and Profiles (300Kleens Board)

Matt we got to get you real drunk on a Saturday night. It would be really interested to see you go on a rant while drunk. George may need to order more memory though. [This message has been edited by Checkmatebloated (edited February 13, 2001).]

Check, I can't type when I'm drunk. :-) Fear not, the book is under way.

I'm glad to see several of you have read 'Atlas Shrugged.' I agree with Slopain, in that most of her work was a form of "lecture," or leading by example. Howard Roarke ('The Fountainhead'), Dagny Taggart, Hank Rearden...and JOHN GALT (all frm 'Atlas Shrugged') are all examples of man at his greatest point in being. By seeing that this point is possible/attainable, the reader is forced compare him/herself to them! kat, I am curious as to what brought this on...are you...pro-Socialist, pro-Communist, pro-Collectivist, pro-WHAT??? Enlighten please, that seemed like a harsh accusation although I like the subtle sarcasm he used to recant it... Matt, you're a smart guy, I wish we could sit down and bounce our "same direction-different road" philosophies on life, as I like to call them... ------------------

Badkins, Yeah - we don't really disagree except on small details. Blackhaus - let me know :-) I have more time now with my new and improved schedule.

ahh...the refuge of the liberal...calling all who disagree with them "extremist" "right-wing" etc. Perhaps better term to describe those such as Skywalker would be: be "enlightened", "Independent", "Able to accept personal responsibility for oneself" etc. ------------------

Nothing in particular...thats just the impression I get from your posts and when a question pops into my head I ask it....I like to try and figure people out; gives me an edge, especially if they continually undermine my less-than-genius intelligence. No flame, just curiousity that kills the kat, don't be offended.

Kat, I'm rarely offended. Don't worry about it.

sorry badkins, didn't mean to ignore you. Personally, I am none of those political animals you list. I am completely anti-communist because I am too much of an individual, and far too cynical to believe such nonsense could be logically possible. I hold some extreme right views and some extreme left views. I am essentially a capitalist first, and a humanist second. Yes, the two are at odds. I am completely anti-union, but beleive there should be some sort of basic social safety net; not the atrocity that is abused today. I am pro-choice and pro-death penalty. I believe the state and church ( I dont care which one) should have no relation, and religion should have no bearing on law. I have no issue with paying taxes, though I feel they are not appropriate responsibly. this is the nuts and bolts of my political belief. |
