GAWDDAMM!!! This is easily one of the best movies I've ever seen. Some great lines. I've developed a new respect for Russell Crowe. I won't say whether or not I cried at the end. Anyone else here a fan?

I agree with you. "Gladiator" should win Best Picture this year ... Also, I bought the soundtrack ... the music is great too.

I never cried during the movie,
but when that scene where he comes home
only to find his wife and kid savagely killed, that really got me pissed cuz I pictured myself in his shoes....
Id like it alot better than Braveheart...
If I lived back in the days of the ROman Empire I would be A GLADIATOR.

Man Braveheart is a great movie... Gladiator is a good movie too but it has moments of boredom... and its too big for the story...

I found it far too predictable and not as gorey as I'd imagined. Typical Hollywood story line - guy gets put down from his rightful place. Has to fight his way back to glory through hardship and injustice and of course people close to him die to give him the motivation. Then he fights the big bad guy from the beginning at the end who looks like a piss streak compared to all the others. Why can't they add a twist or something or is that too complicated for some people. Can't wait until Hannibal comes out in the UK next week.

Nope, I identified alot with Maximus. I have two sons and if anything happened to them like that I would be him exactly.

One reason I identified so well, was the fact of the research that was done for an acurate portrayel. For example at the beginning of the movie right before he goes into battle he scoops up some earth and rubs it on his hands and smells it. The at the end he does the same thing. This is rubbing of dirt on the hands is to remove the sweat and absorb any blood that may get on the hands. (blood is very slippery, take my word for it) When he does this it sends a chill down my spine, for this is a highly skilled and deadly man. (My supervisor was killed by a knife, while we were on patrol)

His sole reason and purpose for continuing on was to meet out justice to those that hurt him. He was a soldier of Rome, who gave his soul to Rome even though never having been there and then he is betrayed and from that point on he is on a mission. The interesting thing is that he still believes in Rome. He was able to distinguish between Rome is and the pip squeek leader murdering leader.

Braveheart was the typical, I am not interested in your freedom cause I just want my piece of ass. Then they kill his girl, and he turns into a bad ass freeedom fighter. He never believed in freedom, so why now? He wasn't fighting for the loss of his girl at the end he vainly cries freedom.

It was okay, but not as powerful as Gladiator.

Who are you referring to as ignorant?

I am a cyborg!!!

Chesty, love your sig! I aslo love the fact that whoever wrote the movie, put certain qualities in Maximus that stand out, such as declining to be the next emperor. He was only concerned with going back home. Damn, how many people would pass an oppurtunity like that up.

Not many I suspect. That is another reason I liked the movie. He was a real citizen of Rome who's passion was the preservation and continuation of Rome second only to his family.
