Did you guys ever see that one about the jackass who causes problems on a discussion board? After that, some of the angry members use the Internet to locate him, and...well I don't want to ruin the end if you haven't seen it. That one was even better than "The Princess bride" and "Scarface", which are some classics. [This message has been edited by MattTheSkywalker (edited February 09, 2001).]

quote: Originally posted by The Slider: 1.Forrest Gump -- you've got to be kidding, that movie was one of the most overcalculated and trite pieces of shit that I've ever seen. 2.E.T. -- I would go with this as a sentimental favorite, but not necessarily a top ten of all time. 3.Jurassic Park -- not a top ten 4.Starwars -- Star Wars is two words, "Empire Strikes Back" is the only movie out of the entire series worth being in the top ten of all time. 5.Titanic -- fukking blah -- whatever!! Read response to #1 6.Terminator 2 -- You're off by one movie, the original Terminator was MUCH better. 7.The Matrix -- Yes, I agree. 8.Wizard of Oz -- Ummm, no comment. 9.Back to the Future -- not a top ten 10.Superman:The Movie -- maybe
Might look something like this (no particular order)
1. Terminator 2. Empire Strikes Back 3. Matrix 4. Fight Club 5. Pulp Fiction 6. Scarface 7. The Jerk 8. Die Hard 9. Romper Stomper 10. Snatch There are many, many more, these are just what came to mind...

Agent, oooh yeah! I forgot about Indiana Jones!! I about put Reservoir Dogs, but really after you see it a couple times, it loses the magic, I thought Pulp Fiction (even though it is more popular) held together much better. I'm a little disappointed in the Billy Madison and Shawshank selections... Willy Wonka I read the books first as a kid, so when I finally saw the movie, I wasn't as impressed. Slikdadd, Yeah, I tend to go for less well known items too, but the selections were still good. And I threw in Romper Stomper and Snatch, so that it wasn't completely Hollywood You know what I forgot about: The Toxic Avenger How could I have forgotten such a classic?!? That movie definitely is one of the best of all time...

It was another case of reading the book first (a number of times) and then seeing the movie... The written word (in Different Seasons) is MUCH better than the movie...------------------ THeMaCHinE is a registered trademark of TheMachine Company, Inc., in the U.S. and/or other countries. We have similar tastes -- however, I would say that your comment about Matrix being the best concept ever is a little off base. If you analyze it, the Matrix concept (in a general sense) is almost a direct rip-off of the Terminator concept, thought the execution was extremely different. That said, Matrix is still a kick-ass movie!

I think they're both about the plight of human existence in the presence of an ever-increasing proliferation of technological innovation and artificial intelligence. Both are about a vanishing human society due to the presence of a controlling AI element that sees humankind as inferior to itself. Both are about the struggle of a small group of individuals "in the know", against overwhelming odds.
