We toyed with it here where I work a few months back. It works ok...There was a slight time delay when we used the modem, but on the T1 connection it was good. | ||

i use one... sometimes... if you do not have headphones then your mic will pick up the speakers and therefor will send back what just came out of the speaker (you get a bad echo), saves 10 cents a minute, 6 bucks an hour... worth the use. | ||

I can officially say they suck - I program for them and WAP sucks. The concept is good, but the protocol was never designed for the traffic and demands that people want to put on it. if you have a good enough phone (with the typing recognition so that you don't have to press as many keys) then it makes it nicer. ------------------ | ||

overf in japan (go bless e) they've got the same sort of system where the phone is constantly connected, so they're on it all the time and it's fast. i have WAP. i never use it. a 14.4k modem with a cache the size of a chiwawa's dick crammed into a phone with a LCD isn't gonna download anything fast, plus if you suddenly lose servioce thats your connection terminated. i'd rather wait until i can get to a computer, then access the web as it was meant to be, from a computer. plus theres no pornography ------------------ | ||

Actually there is porn for it. It was the second thing demoed on it - stocks were first - then a porn site came out. you can't do full color (at least not in the states) - only 2 color (black and no color) and it is very pixelated. I've ported over an entire e-commerce site, and it was a huge pain in the ass (no cookies and non guarenteed "screen" size). If you are not in the states, then the internet isn't so great, but you cell phone stuff is cutting edge. and vice versa for the states. it is b/c we are a new country and it is easy for us to build the net into our infrastructure - whereas many 3rd world nations can't bring in a fiber optic line - or even in Europe there is far more stone structure that is hundreds of years old (the states is temporary construction comparatively). Anyway, yeah - if you really want a good one - get one wiht the biggest screen you can and the typing recognition dictionary software built into it. They all have pretty much the same features in order to stay competetive, and none are a faster connection than the others - so just get what you like looks and price-wise. ------------------ | ||

cheers, i might invst in the new nokia, it has a 28.8k modem. thats if i can be bothered to use wap though. i has all those cool fetures in my trium, then i dropped it and now its all screwy. never mind  (and pixelated pornography...that is seriously pointless ------------------ | ||

I have no need nor desire for a web enabled phone - I've used them before (the qualcomm thin phones), but I don't really find myslef wishing I had one... really ever. I currently have the Nokia 8860 and I'm getting rid of that (if anyone wants it, I'll sell it for $100) and I'm getting the 8890 - much better. ------------------ | ||
