I've never been fired from a job before. I'm still in shock. I was told that I could work for another 2 1/2 weeks and would get 2 months severance pay. Reason: Attitude. After 2 1/2 years, they tell me I've got an attitude problem and that they're firing me for it. Sounds very fishy to me. I NEED A JOB ... QUICK!!!!

You mentioned in an earlier post that you'd been at work for 6 and a half hours and hadn't done a thing. Do you think that might of had something to do with it? I'm sorry to hear about it, but it sounds like they treated you well in terms of the severence package. I fired a Supervisor today for sexual harrassment, and he didn't get squat. So it could be worse.

I guess I don't have to go to Houston on Thursday though ... (i'm looking for the silver lining here)
Amateur Bodybuilder Posts: 60 |
Silver lining? Two words: Severence package....Free money and you don't have to work for it.

Bigschweeler, Actually, no. What's funny is that my work has always been project oriented. I'm not necessarily busy all the time. However, I've been charging clients at least 40 hours per week for the past six months. My productivity is actually better than most of my colleagues. I'm so shook up I bought a pack of smokes on the way home. I talked to my dad who was encouraging but I want to go out with my buddy and talk but he's not answering his mobile.

Sorry this happened! Now to get to business, You may have to leave the gay hub. The job market is still there even though some large motor companies are falling many other business are flying. This may sound crazy, but Monster.com is a nice place for a resume. Are they still sending you to Texas? Edit: Oop! just saw the Texas no go. An attitude problem is a pretty lame excuse for terminating your employment. Had they ever addressed this with you in the past? Have they specifically said that if this "attitude problem" continues you will be fired? If not, then you have a great unemployment case.

this is probably a blessing in disguise may! it's time now to elvaluate your future and what you really want to do! do you want to have a price tag put on you for the rest of your life? get motivated brother, and be your own man! there is alot of money to be made, don't you think it's time to make it for yourself? ------------------

Nope, not going to Texas now.
Talk to you all later.

The main reason it would be a pay cut would be if you wen tto another area. SF is the most expensive place in the country... well, you could argue parts of NYC - but the cost of living is worked into your salary - so if you go to some other place, the cost of living will be lower. but you will still get similar money and with a change in the cost of living, you will technically be making an even closer amount. ------------------

So sorry you are not coming here .. could this be an excuse to get rid of a highly paid employee due to the downturn of tech jobs in Cali?

If they have never discussed your attitude with you or can show you specific complaints you may have a case, especially for discrimination (possibly) I would not wait, I would get a lawyer asap as in tomorrow or today whichever the case and sue the friggin pants off them! ------------------ Strength and Honor The frost, sometimes it makes the blade stick.

WELL IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY HAVE NOT A CASE AGAINST YOU FOR UNEMPLOYMENT. NO DOCUMENTATION WITH YOUR SIGNATURE IS GOING TO BE THERE UNDOING. SCREW THEM AND DO NOT HELP THEM BUILD THERE CASE AGAINST YOU. DO YOUR WAITING WEEK AFTER YOUR OUT THE DOOR AND THEN FILE YOUR CLAIM. I AM VERY SURE THEY WILL LOOSE BIGTIME. GOOD LUCK, MAY! I HAVE NEVER SENT YOU A POST ON THE BOARD BUT THIS ONE DEFINAELY PUSH MY BUTTON. I HOPE YOU FIND A BETTER JOB. GOOD LUCK, AND LET US KNOW ON THE BOARD. LASERDUDE

I am pissed. Let me guess they are asking you to sign a seperation to get the severance? If I guessed right they are protecting themselves which is the new way to get rid of folks you don't want for whatever reason. If you have no write ups and have been there for a while in court they would lose. So they offer severence thinking 99% of the folks take it and make ya sign something that says you won't pursue them This is the way I fired amnagers when I had my restaurants. Very legal and very simple. It sucks but every cloud has a silver lining. Don't correct my grammar I already know but this really gets me going. Fuck corporate america.

Attitude problem? You've been misspelling the boss's name again, haven't you? Just kidding, dude. Sorry to hear that. =( Getting a job is ridiculously easy, though, if you have even a miniscule amount of intelligence (due to the fact that 90% of the rest of the world's population doesn't). You shouldn't have any problems. Good luck. -Warik <--- there's no "c," thx. ------------------ BY THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL!!!

Dear May, I'm really, really pissed on your behalf. Hell, I don't even know you, but I've just read yur post, having finished a late shift, and I was shocked by your news. Something heartening about this site is the comradeship, and I hope that our good wishes for you help console and cheer you. I'm sure that in time something even better will turn up, but until then take care. Reading between the lines of your postings, I perceive you to be an intelligent, humorous, funloving guy, and it is very easy to warm to you. I liked your style right from the word go. Be assured that I, along with several others on the board, will be uplifting you in spirit.

May1010, Do you have a degree? If so in what. From the sound of it, maybe finance with a minor in accounting. My old Company, SEARS, before they spun off Dean Whitter, ColdWell Banker, and Allstate Ins the were hurting and they sold these companies to become liquid! This was a stupid move to me because these were the only thinks in the blue and Sears was operating in the black. Well D & T is a stable co, so the HR department has more than just attiude on you or you can get much, just contact a lawyer. I don't like lawyers, but this sound like it is time for one. What have you signed from day one with them? We/I need more info. E-mail me at [email protected]. We can talk on the phone. I will call you at a pay phone if needed. Now that I think about it, We have a legal department and Human Res. that everthing has to go through to protect us before we let somebody go and attitude is not enough without steps and acknowledged warnings.

May..I don't know about in America, but here they can't do that. If the employer does not have 3 written warnings signed by the employee on file then their asses are grass. They cannot buy you off with a package or anything...severance is mandatory here, not an option. I should know....a lady rightfully sued the company I work for after they fired her on CHRISTMAS EVE and she nailed their asses to the wall....they deserved it too because they have idiots for managers who have zero managerial skills. I like the company in general, but since Im the most educated person here next to the bean counter they know better than to fuck with me...everything is by the book. so May, I dont know how it works there, but I suggest you speak to a labor lawyer.

May - I thought this thread was a joke. I am so sorry that it is not! The others before me have all given VERY GOOD advice whether it was legal or just supportive. I know this is shocking, but remove the emotion from the situation and think about it logically - you will do the right thing. I would chill, check out all of the legal rammifications of the company's behaviour, calmly and quietly pursue other avenues of employment (I would not want to stay at a company that did not want ME there - too much negativity - I HATE THAT SHI....All those fucking haters out there!!!! Jealous HATING BASTARDS!!!! OK, I'm calmer now.), and fucking haul thier hating jealous BASTARD ASSES INTO COURT!!!!!! May, don't be blue, everything happens for a reason. ------------------

Hey May, Sorry to hear about this. But if they haven't written you up at least twice, they should have no grounds to terminate you, unless from lack of work, or poor effort. Look into the possibility of unemployment immediately so you have something to lean on until you get back on your feet. And let me know if you need some good websites to put your resume on. Jae

I've never felt this much anxiety about something before but I'm a survivor ... and, for some strange, inexplicable reason, you guys (whom I'll probably never meet) have made me feel better. ... and as a token of my love, I'm going to spell Warik's name correctly from now on.

I got fired from a golf course once and the manager's helper came out and told me, and then he came back 5 minutes later and told me that the managerwould let me work the rest of the day if I wanted. I went back to the office and chewed his ass, I was going to pound him into the ground, but he looked like he was going to cry so I split. ------------------

May, it must be tough to have to come in the next 2 1/2 weeks, knowing you are already canned. That was bad. Since you are at work, at - technically - don't have a job anymore. Please post some humerous stuff to help the rest of us get through the day. Abuse the internet today.
