Very sad indeed... | ||

Sad indeed. But sadder is the Indian government which makes no effort to achieve any sort of population control. I don't mean forced birth control either....I mean education tyope things. In China, couples are paid to have one child only. Maybe India should try that route. India is more densely populated than China, almost with all poor people. But no one ever dies of overpopulation right?

Dear Matt....I may also add that China has the worst policy for female babies born if a family should go over THAT 1 BABY quota! These little girls are thrown in vile orphanages!SAD WORLD WE LIVE IN!

Mother nature takes over, that 100,000 won't even dent the population. Look at all the disease ridden countries of Africa, mother nature is trying to bring it down to the carrying capacity while we are taxed here to pay for those people to survive. Hell with 'em. ------------------

Sounds as if someone pissed in the ole Wheaties today MP5! Everyone has their opinion- but that is a very cold attitude! What would you say if there were a massive earthquake in the heartland of America or in Canada? Killing thousands? Same thing apply there as well?

I hate to say it, but in a weird way I agree with MP5...acts of fate are meant to be; sad yes, but also true. How many people died because of Mt St Helens because they refused to leave their homes? Same with Monserrat a couple years ago...mind you I don't know very much about earthquakes, but don't you get a warning before a huge one? It is for sure a tragedy, but not a preventable one. Fate is fate.

Kat I agree that it's a natural disaster. I am only asking him if he would say THE HELL WITH 'EM if it happened to his country men!

The population is a problem, but I think the bigger issue is building standards or lack of. Notice how when the 3rd world countries have earthquakes that are comparable or less than north american earthquakes - how many more people die. I am down in mex often and work in the real estate/building industry and some of the new stuff they are putting up will get taken down if ronnie coleman jumps up and down never mind an earthquake. They dont want to spend the money (probably because of the corruption in the govt with not meeting codes but forking over a little bit of cash to the inspectors) to build a structurally sound (read: engineered) building, and the result is slaughter of thousands of people when the earthquakes come. And its no secret/crap shoot that they come - everyone knows they come its just when they come that is the unknown. Sorry for the ramble, but that shit really affected me, I read about it just recently and was suprised how many people will end up dieing b/c of this. ------------------ For a good time click here: Search and Profiles (300Kleens Board)

Thanks Slo....I liked the ramble...IT ALSO SCARES THE HELL OUT OF ME! I am sure that THIS very country has the same scary standards(to an extent) that those third world countries pratice. I can recall, as if it were yesterday, the quake in San Francisco. The Mission district was built on an old TRASH FILL! I know that the district was built many years ago, but someone had to realize the potential problems! SCARY SHIT! I guess MP5 is not going to chew me up and spit me out...Tis ok. We all have our opinions!

We actually have high standards, UBC codes, and city inspectors, and bulding departments that have the construction industry doing pretty sill things at times. (ADA requires braille at an ATM drive through WTF? what blin person drives?) thats a simple one but they are some more costly codes that really inflate the prices for buildings, but the structural ones no one really comlains about kind of important. Older buildings, in many cities, are having to do seismic work to uprgrade the buildings to current standards. A bitch for sure, but it may save lives. ------------------ For a good time click here: Search and Profiles (300Kleens Board)

I would not care if it happened here unless I knew someone, then I would feel bad. This whole world is over populated. No one seems to care, every selfish couple out there today who has 3+ kids is ridiculous. Here in Denver we don't even have any water, we have to steal it from western Colorado, yet the expansion continues. Not to mention California, they are over populated, hell, they cannot even provide enough electricity. Not to mention the Colorado river does not even make it to the sea anymore since we have drained it by then. I say bring it on, that is the only thing to keep our world in balance since we are all selfish. ------------------

to be honest its not so much the huge populations that scare me but the consumption of the worlds resources and the pollution that gets churned out. as a country develops more, there dependance on fossil fuels increases as well, and if they've got a high population, we'd all better get worried fast. not to mention that the western world consumes most of the worlds resources anyway. yet we lecture them on there high populations, and to use less fossil fuels when we can't even agree to reduce our CO2 emmisions. i very much doubt they'll change in the next 4 years-thank u mister nader ------------------
