I have a bunch of money lying around and I want to start investing it in something other than a shitty bank account. I'd like buy a few shares here and there of <$5 stocks and hope for some small gains. Anything I make off of that short-term will bring me more than the bank will long-term anyway. Problem is that I can't find any decent eTrade services because they all either require a 5k minimum deposit and/or have insane transaction fees. Are any of you into eTrading now and could recommend a good eTrading service to use? I need something with a low transaction fee that doesn't require a high minimum deposit. Thanks a lot -Warik ------------------ BY THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

DO NOT USE ETRADE**** they have annual fees and high commission rates. I have Ameritrade.com, good company, no annual fees, $8 and $13 commission fees. Before you get involved, I hope you know what you are doing, a lot of people lose money. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

You can set up an Etrade account with a minimum of $1000. Ameritrade is also good, that's the one I think I'm going to go with. It might be a good idea to start out with a Broker's guidance until you learn what your doing, I'm trying to break free from mine now that I've learned a little bit and have a few broker friends who give me all kinds of nuggets of info. ![]() ![]() ![]()

What about Datek? Seems reasonable to me. My dad is setting up a Datek account for me to trade for him. What is your trading strategy? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I use datek. It is good. No minimum balance to deposit and trades are $9.99. For a couple of stocks under $5, check out ARTT and QSC. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

You should max out your IRA and 401k before you get into individual trading. And, unless you have more money and know what you're doing, you should be investing in mutual funds anyway. If you go into it looking to make short-term money, you're going to be disappointed unless you're highly skilled in stock picking. Stocks are about long-term, this market isn't as easy to make money in as it has been in recent years. Remember, you can lose a sizeable chunk of your money in the market if you don't know what you're doing -- especially in the type of stocks (<$5) you're talking about. If you're looking for a thrill, go gambling. If you're serious about investing, go into it with adequate funds after maxing your IRA and 401k, and look at it long-term. yes machine, I am sure. there is NO minimum to start at Ameritrade. If you want to get the 25 free trades for a month, you do have to start with at least $500, BUT, you are not required to open with a minimum. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hmmm...i have an E Trade acct and have never been charged an annual fee, maybe they are changing their policy?? Warik as far as investing in the current market, be careful , alot of data is pointing to the market being on a bubble and due for a major correction to perhaps 7500 on the DJIA. There are obviously conflicting views on this, but there is some disturbing trends if you are into analysis. If you are going to get in the market forget the high risk stocks and try to find real value and hold for the long term. Also, stay diversified and maybe go into some good bonds or Treasuries. Mutual funds are ok, but dont just go after what ever is the latest "hot" fund. Remember, to get abnormally high returns they generally have to take abnormally high risk. As they say in Finance, "there is no free lunch". Good luck. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
