Forget the homeless and the poor, religion needs it more. http://my.aol.com/news/news_story.psp?type=1&cat=0100&id=0101291416181413 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Oh well. like many other americans, it won't effect me. I have a handle on my own finances. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

And the millions of homeless people don't directly effect you either, does that mean it doesn't matter? Why spend it on organizations that are raking in millions each year instead of using it on people that actually need it? It's a waste of OUR money. We pay taxes. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I wonder if the Catholic church is going to be one of the beneficiaries. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

This is going to sound real shitty, but the majority of homeless can work if they were not lazy. How about those that stand on the corner for 5hours a day and beg. They can do some type of work, they just choose not to, so I don't want to give them any money. Disabled maybe, but there is also a law American Disabilities Act that should take car of that, but I know that does not always work. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The majority of the homeless are mentally ill(mostly schizophrenic) and are victims of the deinstitutionalization movement. For the most part they suffer from debilatating illnesses and have no access the antipsychotic medications that could allow them to function and work. ![]() ![]() ![]()

not too surprising... Where do you think most of his money for campaigning came from. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

checkmate. I totally agree. The homeless are just lazy. They could work hard if they wanted to, but instead they just spend all day enjoying the comfortable life sleeping in sewers. And who among us wouldn't revel in the public humiliation of having to search through garbage cans for food, or beg for small change? They could choose to work, but they take the easy road and choose to forego healthcare and personal hygeine simply because they think it's hip. Lucky them! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I hate to be the ASSHOLE, but I will. You are all misdirecting your anger. This has nothing to do with Bush or the homeless. Here goes Bush doing something many of us do not support with our dollars, and we are quick to get pissed at him. When the Democrats increase welfare, we get pissed at them. When the Republicans do shit like this, we get pissed at them. The peoblem is not that one party is better or worse. The problem is, Americans unknowingly feed the 2 party system. By getting angry at Bush over this, we are quick to jump toward the other party, where they too will appropriate our money wrongly. Then we will get mad at them and back to the first party we supported, whichever it may be. either way, no one in power really loses. (Do you think Clinton or Gore is having a hard time in life????) We lose. Wake up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

some homeless people have really traumatized lives and find the trauma of making committments (working) too much to bear, so they choose homelessness. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Why don't we just feed the homeless to the poor people on welfare? It's a win-win situation. ![]() ![]() ![]()

It gets old hearing folks bitch about Bush. he has been in office not even two weeks and has done fairly well. he is speaking of a tax cut, cheaper medication for seniors, money for religion, money for schools, and its one week going on two. He stopped abortion funding and even if you don't agree he is doing shit. The democrtas are and will continue to jump on his side as he is moving very fast and people respect that. Coming from texas i will tell you he does unite democrtas with republicans and will be a great president. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Matt, that's why I support the Libertarian Party and am an avid Objectivist...I believe in pure, Laissez-Faire Capitalism, like I have stated several times before on various threads... I also believe in the Constitution, which clearly states that the government have a "complete separation of church and state," and I totally believe they should... ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I was under the understanding that he donated it to religious organizations that do charity work. There not going to build churches etc. with the money they are using it for missionary work such as feeding the homless, funding for people who have been hit with tragedies(fire, earthquake, etc) I may be wrong but I think some of you may have the wrong idea. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

First, I fail to see where most homeless are schizophrenic or mentally handicapped. Where are your statistics. Valid ones. So he gives money to religion. The churches do a lot of the feeding of the homeless, providing shelter and so on. Don't give me that crap about it being a front or something. As a Sheriff's Deputy, I have taken and referred my share of homeless to shelters run by churches. When I was laid off with a 2 week old boy and a five year old, it was the Catholic church that helped me pay my electric and got me some food for my family while I tried to find a new job. You know what? The food stamp place and gov't welfare told me to shove it up my ass. So who helps the needy more? The gov't? I think not. Quit bashing Bush, I don't see any of you doing any better or trying. Yes, I too agree that a majority of the homeless could get a job if they really wanted one. Everywhere I look I see signs for help wanted. Granted, it ain't 50k a year but it is a job and will help them with their self-esteem and get them back on track. ------------------ Strength and Honor The frost, sometimes it makes the blade stick. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

What the fuck happened to the seperation of church and state? I need not remind all of the wonderful things the fucking catholic church did when the pope had more power than the kings. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Frackal, Separation of church and state says nothing about one not being able to give money to the other and vice-versa. The government can't pass laws supporting a particular religion, and they can't ban you from practicing one. That's about all you're going to find in the Constitution about church & state. Although I don't agree with or support the government's giving of my tax money to someone else, it's just as legal as Democrats buying votes by giving freebies to the poor. -Warik ------------------ BY THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Frackal, The reason that it is okay for him to give the money to a religious organization is that it is only to be used for social service projects, the funds can't be used to try and convert people, build churchs or anything like that. As stated in earlier posts this will help the homeless also. Yes the "Fucking Catholic Church" has committed atrocitys in the past, but when was the last time the pope had more power then kings? what does he have to do with this? shit when was the last time that kings had real power? this is the year 2001. Personally I thing that it is politically motivated also, granted it will do good things and I have no problem with it. But giving organizations money always makes them happy, and they remember that at re-election time. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

interesting post...I think it's good that any group helps contribute to helping the homeless, and seeing as this is nothing new and that in the past certain church organized shelters and groups who take care of feeding them have received money I don't see this as being a big deal...The money will be set up to only be used for that purpose Period, whats the big deal? Besides if he gives money to every religion who has these organizations in this country how does that break the church and state boundries...I thought that was to say they don't favor any or no religions over the other. Since they already give none religous organizations money to do the same thing I think this might make things even... it's all about how someone twists the light in their favor And who said that Catholic church still doesn't have more power then kings today?? I seriously doubt many people in the world know the full extent of the Churches wealth and influence. I am catholic so don't take that as a bash for or against the church. Tell me of any Well known religous group who hasn't committed some form of Attrocity in someones opinion cause I doubt there would be many maybe none at all. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Have we forgotten the fundamental tenant of seperation of Church and State. I know that idiot boy in the white house may not have paid much attention in his HS civics class but this is total bullshit. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

It is called take from the poor and give to the rich. Whether it goes to the churches or welfare programs it has the same goal, spend our tax dollars and say we need more money to support the gov't operation. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I don't really agree with the Gov. giving money to Religions, but I guess my question is: Which Religions is he giving money to??? Is he being selective? If so I would think that would be discrimination...... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

he's giving it to organizations of different religions. not just one. and they'll help the poor and stuff. And i think two posts above somebody said every religion has done something wrong. It's not the religion. it's the people. the people that call themselves 'good' actually do the bad stuff. it doensn't say that in the Bible. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'm not a black and I'm not a jew but I PROMISE you none of that cash went to any of them because those groups generally don't vote for Republicans. One other thing, I can't seem to access that story from the link at the first post. Can someone give me another one from an actual newspaper?? THIS COULD BE A HOAX. Because billions of dollars is a lot of cash. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
