Dogs Do Have Souls, Don't They?

I remember bringing you home. You were so small and cuddly with your tiny
paws and soft fur. You bounced around the room with eyes flashing and ears
flopping. Once in a while, you'd let out a little yelp just to let me know
this was
your territory. Making a mess of the house and chewing on everything in
sight
became a passion, and when I scolded you, you just put your head down and
looked up at me with those innocent eyes, as if to say, "I'm sorry, but I'll
do it
again as soon as you're not watching."

As you got older, you protected me by looking out the window and barking at
everyone who walked by. When I had a tough day at work, you would be
waiting
for me with your tail wagging just to say, "Welcome home. I missed you."
You
never had a bad day, and I could always count on you to be there for me.
When I sat down to read the paper and watch TV, you would hop on my lap,
looking for attention. You never asked for anything more than for me to pat
your head so you could go to sleep with your head over my leg.

As you got older, you moved around more slowly. Then, one day, old age
finally took its toll, and you couldn't stand on those wobbly legs anymore.
I knelt down and patted you lying there, trying to make you young again. You
just looked up at me as if to say you were old and tired and that after all
these years of not asking for anything, you had to ask me for one last
favor. With tears in my eyes, I drove you one last time to the vet. One last
time, you were lying next to me. For some strange reason, you were able
to stand up in the animal hospital, perhaps it was your sense of pride.
As the vet led you away, you stopped for an instant, turned your head and
looked at me as if to say, "Thank you for taking care of me.

I thought, "No... thank you for taking care of me."

Then, if you look at a Christmas picture of us when I was about 18, Gillian is laying there in front of us with alot of the red hair having turned gray. He died while sleeping at the foot of my brother's bed.

Now Im depressed...

My dog had cancer last Spring - she was 13 and had almost nothing left. The tumor had gotten so big that treatment would no thelp...it was just a matter of time until she didn't wake up.

Not wanting her to suffer in pain we took her to the vet to have her put to sleep.

The dog must have known what was happening, because as old and weak as she was (she was weak at that point - never barked, rarely even got up, much less played with us) she didn;t want to go with the vet.

I got the vet to come round home to give him the injection, it was very hard.

I was sitting with him on his beanbag crying like a baby and he was giving me his paw, he was worried that I was upset....

the hardest thing is putting a dog to sleep. It seems we are sadden more by the loss of our pets than by the loss of a family member. I know the pet is considered family.

The middle ear is what gives you your balance. Humans have one to. After the stroke everthing just got wacked. It took several week for him to get some of it back. Never will get it all back.
My blonde lab went blind and after months of working with her she just couldn't handle it. She learned commands realy well. Just had this thing that she was never gonna eat again and tore everything up.
Came home one day and she had eaten a loaf of bread, half a bag of floor, a bunch of cirsco and some chocolate. What a mess.
We we then knew that she was really going to hurt herself and took her in.
Short as possible - The doc called in somebody to help and she stuck the needle in the vien but had the wrong tube and walked away with her pumping blood all over the table. I asked what the hell she was doing and my dog was freakin and then finally I reached over and pinched off the vien. The doc jumped my ass saying I was going to poke the needle back thru the skin. So I told the bitch I came to put my dog down not kill her. We had some more chioce words and then it was over. My wife and I were a wreck and when we walked into the waiting room to leave people gasped and then I noticed all the blood all over me. Yeah I was pretty much covered but was so worked up hadn't notice.

He was 5 weeks old and on death row at the Humane Society couldn't leave him to die.
Was looking for a blue tick someone stole from me. The guys there thought it fun that they were going to get a chance to kill him.
Then when I took him out of the cage they knew they had trouble.

My neighbor and I used train dogs at the humane society so that people were knocking on doors to adopt them. It's amazing how people can be so cruel. They buy dogs and once they pee in the house, beat em a little then if the dog is lucky gets to meet phenyl barbitol at the human society. Or they get dogs like aussies which require tons of exercise and then lock em up in a one bedroom apartment and expect them to sit around all day....
