Tonite I was doing military presses and asked this older gentleman to spot me. I even explained how he was to spot me. I told him I'd do six reps, this was my second set and I was thinking "well shit this is feelin pretty easy for 2nd set." Well he had his hands on the bar most of the time, that pissed me off so bad!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||

Just tell them "Do not touch the bar until I say take." My other strategy is to spit as I gun out each rep. The spotter always steps back (note: only use spitting technique on people smaller than you... Otherwise you might receive a serious ass kicking. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||

I never let anyone spot me but my training partner...and the only time he steps in is when the weight stops moving. He never robs me of a lift by supporting my elbows or "staying with me" if someone has to "stay with you" after a lift off you have no buisness doing that weight! ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||

There are only certain people at my gym who I ask to spot me unless NONE of them are there and I really need a spot. Shit, I've walked from the bench all the way to the other side of the gym to ask this dude to spot me. I didn't even have to explain why I came to him when there were 100 people around the bench. The idiots don't know how to spot. I always say (politely as possible): "Ok, I'm going to do X reps. Please (yes, I say please) don't touch the bar with even 1 finger unless I ask for help... if I ask for help, pull it completely up and help me rack it." I had some guy ask me for a spot shoulder pressing dumb bells. He did them with terrible form and they were too heavy for him. I don't give a shit what you want, I am not touching the weight until you're trying to raise the weight and it stops moving. Until then I will be a step back. So I gave this guy this kind of spot and he only got two or three reps and he threw down the weights all pissed off. I was in the gym three days later and he was doing the same exercise and he purposefully went around me to get someone else to spot him. When he was done he said out loud, "man you know how to spot, some people don't know what there doing". What a fuckface, like I want to spot the retard. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||

I look around and look for someone who appears to know what he/she is doing. If no is available, fuck it I'll do it myself. Can't stand a shitty spot, makes me feel like I just completed a wothless set. I don't want you to touch the damn bar until it comes to complete stop and my head starts to turn purple. I don't trust many people to spot me. I don't always need a spotter on things but when I do, it's my hubby. He pushes me a little harder, too. Always helps...... I don't understand the problem with some people-why do they have to touch the bar as soon as you have to exert a little more energy. I get really pissed off when I find out someone has touched the bar when I haven't asked them. You don't know if your progressing or not. I've told a lot of people do not touch the bar unless I say but they get scared and touch the bar as soon as I start to struggle. I have to scream at them to get away from the fuckin bar which is hard when your trying to push the weight up. be careful who you pick to spot 2ce I was actually injured by spotters doing heavy squats once when an idiot leaned on the bar while he was lookin at a chick the other by a "certified tainer" who didnt like my form and pushed and pulled in some fed up faion on my torso and I retore the same scartissue 3 yrs. later if I hadnt doubled over in pain after managing to rack th bar both times I wouldve fargin killed those losers I never use a spotter on squats now till I have to come down on one knee at total failure ![]() ![]() ![]() |
