just wondering in the laws of double standards, who decided that a) the word "wigger" isnt a racial term, and b) how it doesnt directly reflect racism towards african americans? the term came about, obviously, due to the dislike of white people raised in and/or emulating street culture. but is it a sneaky way of showing racism? just curious on what people think of this. i noticed the term used rather freely in the gangster rap post, and wondered if one letter were different, how the whole board would blow up with racial accusations. is it taboo to outwardly hate on a black guy, but safer to attach a name to someone that indirectly is derogatory towards another group? ------------------     | ||

In my opinion, I think it the "safe" way for a racist to get out whats on his mind, I mean come on now, "Wigger" is a word that people use to describe little white kids that act like black kids, so IMO, if you're going to be a racist, at least be honest with yourself and admit that you are, and not hide behind the BS of being "politically correct". I am not a racist. I dislike many people for different types of reasons and one of them is not the color of their skin or culture. I would do a black girl, hispanic girl, asian girl or anything else. I dislike white people trying to act black. All races are different on how they speak, act, and dress and white people should not try to be black. I was watching the jenny jones show a few weeks ago and they had a show about white people trying to act black and these people looked ridiculous. | ||

Because wigger doesn't describe a race, it refers to a chosen paradigm. Unless you consider Wigger a race unto itself, or a speciatic anomoly within a race spawned by genetic mutation or replication. | ||

to a degree you are right slim, but some people are raised with a particular vocabulary and environment that may seem like they are trying to "act black" when in fact, it may be what they grew up with. nothing to do with skin tone but environment. same can be said for a black man that speaks proper english, they are told they are a sellout or are "acting white". but i agree, the majority of those on springer etc...are putting on a show and trying a bit too hard to fit in. as tooshort said, "you gotta get in where you fit in"...but its not always the case for everyone. ------------------ | ||

"Fitting in" is a vital part of societal interaction. Opting for one caste or another is a pressing routine each person must make, or choose not to make. I do not consider it a racial slur when someone calls me a musclehead or some other arbitrary slang term for a persona or lifestyle. But beyond 'fitting in', another variable within society is paradigm definition. In other words, if someone (or group) falls outside of conventional molds, we feel the need to apply names to such groups. And since people feel that stinging wit is often a sign of intelligence, those definitions tend to be negative. This is a terribly deep and involved topic, although it is often played out in all forms of media...even ones such as the internet which usually filters out (but often proliferates) such biased premonitions. | ||

i'd like to put my two cents in but 40 white people would be calling me a racist against whites... despite my color.... however i was under the impression that bignate was saying this is derrogatory towards AA's? am i right? i think it is a negative term to AA's... its implying they are niggers and since whites are copying them they are wiggers... its main basis is the word nigger... we dont call white kids acting black wafrican americans... or whitefrican americans (i like that)... we call them WIGGERS.... that is racial towards blacks, not whites... in my opinion... but then again i think its ok to call whites crackers | ||

Black people call themselves niggers. I have never seen a black person in court for a hate crime against a white person but I have seen white people go to jail for hate crimes against black people. I am not a racist and get along with black people if they get along with me. Black people are more racist then whites are. I have been called alot of things by black people in the gym or when not driving my vehicle properly. When I was in school black people stand in large groups only socializing with other black people. I am tired of hearing how hard it is for a black person to find a job or why a black person gets more time in prison than a white person for the same crime. Well, black people have the highest crime rate. Maybe if they would stop shooting people it would be different. I hate gangster type people all together. There are no white people shooting at someone because they walked through their territory. It is all black, hispanics or all those other races. Their are blacks killing blacks and hispanics killing hispanics. Sometimes I do feel like a racist and hate black people all together because all I hear about is these charities for African Americans like the united negro college fund, black history month, wheres white history month, and am tired of hearing all this slavery shit. I's over. Black people rule the world. They are the best athletes and good at everything else. They just love killing people and causing violence. They like to take the gangster type image to make them look like a bad ass. | ||

First of all I think wigger is a derogative term twards white people who "act black." First of all. Anyone who thinks a certain culture talks, walks, acts a certain way, is believing in many of today's stereotypes which are associated with minorities or even whites. No where in any culture is it a custom for people to act like assholes, idiots or jerks. When you see a white person on tv, talking using slang and wearing baggy pants everyone calls them a wigger. Which in return you are associating poor language skills and bad manners with black people. Also if you pay close attention to who is acting like this you can see they may come from poor, underprivliged families. And usually these people lack the education and manners to act appropriate. Also most of these kids are young and misguided. It doesnt matter what race or cultural background you are from. People who act this way b/c they choose to. Assholes are assholes, it doesnt matter what race you are. People should stop associating race and ignorance together! | ||

Slim, A terribly uninformed post you have there. hundreds of mid-western cities have predominantly white gang members who do drive-by's and gang-style murders. Why do you say black's are more racist than whites? Don't you find that statement, in and of itself, proof that you have a skewed perspective? It's also what we Logic buffs call 'poisoning the well'- making a statement with the intent to limit other's from using the opposite point of view. But Logic aside, racism isn't limited to any particular race. And yet your point of view (and thus your opinion) is clearly from a racial hilltop, if not out-right biased.
It is simply easier to assume blacks are all rappers, gangsters or basketball players rather than take some time to understand the deep and interesting present and past cultural aspects of being an Africa-American. I can only assume that when you say you "get along with blacks" that you mean you have never actually voiced your above statements. | ||

I was going to write a big long post. But why. No matter what us white males do: give jobs to the less qualified, give up school seats, change our school systems to talor the lazy, give money to black only clubs, black only schools, better loans to blacks etc etc.. All that stuff is true. If a white cop shoots a black guy it must because he black right. You never here racial stuff when a black cop shoots a white guy. It is true when you see on television on these comedy shows like a show a few weeks ago they made a racial comment to a white guy as a joke. Black people are alot more racist that whites. I remeber back in school a black and white guy disagreed on something in class and the black guy said something racial first and everyone thought it was funny but when the white guy called him a nigger he got kicked out of school fo racism. Thats not right that nothing happend to the black guy. White people give black people jobs but do they give white people jobs. Hell no!!!! They just hire their own color. Well I grew up in a small town of about 18000 people in a redneck hillbilly town kind of out in the middle of nowhere. There are few blacks that even live there today, it is pretty much a retirement town and there were kids who acted like they were black when they never even really associated with blacks, the only blacks they really saw were from the movie Boyz in the Hood & and on MTV. But over the summer they would stay with a family member in the cities or even over night change their appearence, and then they had a mysterious accent that also developed over night and they were born again hard core gangesters,,, this is what they thought. I don't really understand people like this, do they think that no one remembers who they were the day befor. Not all people who act like a hard core gangesters or whatever grew up in a shitty neighbor hood, so that is not what produced their fake stories and fake images, about 95% of these people I grew up with were white. Yes some people go through hell and it is blacks and whites, some of them are not just putting on a show, some of them just don't give a fuck,,, but I think the majority of whites who do this are full of shit, a least the majority I've seen anyway. | ||

This post is getting out of hand. But since we're on a roll, I'll add my $.02. I originally grew up in the projects, and lived in a mostly black area. I never had any problems with anyone because of color, and had friends of many different nationalities and races. BUT, if someone called me a "cracker" or a "wigger", guaranteed I'd put my foot up their ass and call them every derogatory name I could think off. Racism is racism, and calling someone white a cracker or wigger is just that. Treat people how you want to be treated. If you don't want to be called names, don't call others names. | ||
