The #1 thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are
most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun, braid or other
hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after
a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.
The 2nd thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women who's
clothing is easy to remove quickly.

The #1 outfit they look for is overalls because many of them carry
scissors around to cut clothing and on overalls the straps can be
easily cut. They also look for women on their cell phone, searching
through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they
are off guard and can be easily overpowered.

The time of day men are most likely to attack and rape a woman is in the
early morning, between 5 and 8:30a.m. The number one place women are
abducted from/attacked at is grocery store parking lots.
Number two is office parking lots/garages.
Number three is public restrooms.
The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and
quickly move her to a second location where they don't have to worry
about getting caught.

Only 2% said they carried weapons because rape carries a 3-5 year
sentence, but rape with a weapon is 15-20 years. If you put up any
kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a
minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn't worth it
because it will be time-consuming. These men said they will not pick on
women who have umbrellas, or other similar objects that can be used from
a distance, in
their hands. Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really
close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to
convince these guys you're not worth it.

Rapist look to abduct woman when there are not a lot of people present, women who appear to be distracted, in a place of subdued lighting. It comes down to knowing your surroundings. If you are constantly looking around and observing your area, you are less likely to be a target.

Also, rapists count on women being passive during the event. And for the most part that is what the rapist gets. I say this because there are two schools of thought,

1. do not resist just take and try to remember as much detail as possible.

The problem with one is that the woman tends to feel as though she wanted it and feels guilty about the whole thing.

2. Resist period! Fight back, scream, do whatever like there is no tomorrow. Unless your attacker knows he is safe he will more than likely flee, to avoid the attention.

The biggest problem I see is that most women take it and don't fight back. This usually leads to multiple rapes from the attacker and then death.

seriously though, the best thing I heard was that if you were in a situation where you were being raped and you've treid everything and you can't get out of it - briefly go with it and even act as if you are enjoying it - put you hands around his head and slide them so that you fingers are behind his ears and then slide your thumbs to his eyes and proceed to push your thumbs through his eye sockets.

Rapists and their like should be put to death pure and simple. Studies have shown that these individuals cannot respond to rehabilitation and are habitual by nature. Therefore, why put them in prison for life when you can take their life?

You have to have the mindset of survival and to fight without fear. Without those you will not win no matter how big and strong. Remember, the guy who is attacking you to rape you has nothing left to lose but get caught so he already has the survival mindset and bein small doesn't mean he can't fight. In fact, the smaller the guy the bigger the attitude and the more they feel they have to approve.

Are you prepared to fight back as though you have already lost the fight?

Meaning, if you consider that you have already died, that you will fight as never before because in your mind you have nothing left to lose since in your mind you have already lost your life.

I agree that not every woman or man can use a weapon responsibly. My wife has for 5 years now and so has my mother for 20 years. If I were a woman I would rather kill some prick whose trying to hurt me and go to trial with a sympathetic jury than to be raped and possibly murdered.

Non-lethal means hmmmm? I wonder? Have you ever used pepper spray on someone? Mace?, stun guns? They work great if the attacker is not high on drugs, his adrenaline level is low and he is not hell bent on completing his objective. While a sheriff's deputy I have seen people pepper sprayed with no effect, stun guns that did more to piss off the assailent than anything else.

Women and men have to realize the extent to which the defense tactic they have chosen is effective and be prepaired to escalate the force if need be.

If you carry a firearm, train with it, know its limitations. The same for non-lethal means. Besides it is harder for a dead man to sue than a living one.

Granted this is a last ditch thing??? There is no 'last ditch thing' when it comes to being attacked. If someone attacks a woman, that woman should be doing anything and everything she can to get away. period. Are you saying she should wait for a certain time during the rape before she should start fighting dirty? Up until that point, she should just do half-assed things to get away? I'm sorry, but if someone invades my space and I feel threatened in any way, it's dirty from the get-go. ways that are all better shoving your hand into his adam's apple - it will choke him and if you do it hard enough you can kill someone. mace and pepper spray are great, but like someone else pointed out, they don't do anything if you can't feel pain. my dad ran on the ambulace the entire time I was in high school and he had plenty of stories of guys that got shot multiple times or that were cap stunned (pepper spray) and they didn't give a shit. the police were beating him on nerve points (ribs and joints) with their clubs and the guy just laughed. twice they got him in cuffs and twice he just tore his hands out of them - cutting them up, but the couldnt' feel. kept laughing that it was all going to hurt in the morning.
that would be an exception though, nto everyone strutting around at night is on pcp or what have you.

I personally don't like the idea of mace or pepper-spray...I can't control the wind and I don't want it in my face. A gun or knife are options, but if a man gets too close, I'm no fool, he'd be able to overpower me and take it. I carry a kubaton and I know how to use it, but I don't think it would be very effective if the woman weren't trained in how to use it. I believe learning how to fight is the best defense for women.
