I was at the grocery store last night and decided to make my pale ass less... well, pale.
I got some of the Neutregena (sp?) spray stuff and it was labeled as "medium/light" - after trying it out it should be "clear" - I see absolutely no difference.

I'm extrodinarily pale, so perhaps it just overpowers the stuff - it does smell really gross though. so I got that going for me, which is nice.

Can anyone recommend any other lotions or sprays? I'm looking for something that isn't an obvious orange.
Also, this weekend I'm going to sign up at a tanning place and just do a small amount at a time - do you still use tanning lotion with that?

I'm just curious and bored as hell at work right now.

On a side... and completely unrelated, note, I am just now getting into that band Brand Nubian... damn they are good - Grand Puba rocks.

I tan about 30 minutes a week, mostly to keep acne under control, but at least I'm not horribly pale.

I prefer the Lancome products if your talking about tanning lotions and bronzers.

If I didn't use self-tanner, I'd be mistaken for a corpse! My favorite is Banana Boat. Even though my natural skin is bright white, I buy the darkest shades. Doesn't look orange unless you don't wash your hands well after applying. Compared to some other brands, the smell isn't that bad. You can find it in most drug and grocery stores.

Happy -

Don't use a tanning cream yourself. If you're going to use one, go to a salon and have it painted on properly (i.e. speed tan line). It costs about $250.

Personally, I keep a year 'round tan via my membership at Costa Del Sol. If you're really white, go for 8 minutes a day for about a week, then up it to 12 minutes a day, then up it to 16 minutes a day. By the end of your third week, you'll have a killer tan.

I'm glad I'm not the only ultra pale person here.
I was always given a hard time about being pale when in school and I'd take off my shit - good physique but bright white... shield the eye's!
but the other day I was looking in the mirror and I can see all the veins and capilaries in my body. I feel that if I looked closely enough I'd see the blood pumping.
my girlfriend says she likes me being pale with green eyes and dark hair, says it goes together... but I'm not sure I like it. she also doesn't like weight lifters...

I'm very pale, too and tanning beds don't do that much to help. The problem for me with self-tanners is I tend to rub off the "tanned" layers of skin if I'm sweating. Before I went on a vacation to South Beach a few years ago, I told me dermatologist I was allergic to sunblock and asked for a prescription for trisoralen, a drug that increases your body's natural reaction to the sun and causes it to produce and retain more melanin (sp?). I got a natural dark tan for the only time in my life. I went back to him later and asked for another prescription, but he said it's no longer being produced. I'd like to know if he was lying.

401 - just out of curiousity, why would he lie? does it have side effects that people would want to abuse it for, or that are detremental over time?
I don't see why else he wouldn't want to perscribe it. plus, if he is anything like one of my friends who is a doctor, he can get kickbacks from perscriptions depending on what they are.

There is this from the reports section, but it doesn't say why you can't go over 14 days on it and why you need 4 weeks off. I like to know why with these things. always want to learn as much as possible before going through with any of these. don't want someone to come along and say "oh yeah, forgot to mention, your balls will swell like grapefruits."

Pharmaceutical Name:
trioxsalen

Brand Names:

Countries of Origin:
TRISORALEN: 5 mg/tab 28 or 100 tab/bottle

Description:
A prescription drug bodybuilders use to enhance tanning. A dark tan makes muscles look bigger and harder while giving the illusion of less body fat. Trisoralen is used to treat psoriasis vitiligo, which is a condition where skin color fades. Doctors occasionally prescribe it to especially pale patients who might be headed for a tropical vacation. The drug increases tolerance to the sun and enhances pigmentation, although it does not prevent burning. Trisoralen seems acts on melanin which is what is responsible for natural skin pigmentation. The drug works only if it is taken prior to sun exposure. The drug has a packaging insert which outlines use for accelerating tanning. Nearly all bodybuilders that have used Trisoralen felt it promoted tanning to some degree. Fair skinned users benefit the most.

Effective Dose:
2 tablets/10 mg, taken 2 to 4 hours before sun exposure or a tanning bed. Used everyday for 14 days consecutively.

Pharmaceutical Price:
$2 per tab

Average Street Price:
$4 per tab.

Cycles & Stacking
The drug should be discontinued after 14 days and should not exceed 28 tablets. A 4 weeks off cycle should be taken between dosages.

Side Effects:
No toxicity has been reported.

Counterfeits:
Poor black market availability, but some doctors prescribe it.

Effectiveness Rating:
6

According to another a guy I talked to, a professor at Stanford Med & practicing dermatologist whose presumably knowledgeable about these things, said he didn't know if trisoralen was still being produced, but that some studies came out linking it to skin cancer deaths. I didn't press him on it, but, since the drug only works if you expose yourself to sunlight or a tanning lights, the higher incidence of skin cancer could be as a result of the higher than average sun exposure of the people who take it. For my own part, I would definitely take it again for short periods if I could get a hold of it.

Both the creams and the tanning lights age your skin.
Not as much as the sun,
but you're still adding years to your face.

Well if you have never used a tanning bed, try 7 mins per session with the time between 48 hours between sessions (safer that way). Week 1.

Then check out results after three sessions and decide your increase time for your next sessions from there.

I would think about 9 to 10 mins. MAX per session for the next week. Week 3. If that is okay without causing you to burn, maybe the next week go to 12 mins per session. That should be a good outline for proper tanning without burning, or a little redness and light peal, but that has only been my experience. Every one is different.

Hope this helps.

NO LONGER A PALE RIDER!

PS:IF YOU USE A BED WITH NEW LAMPS YOUR OLD SCHEDULE WILL CAUSE YOU TO BURN, MOST LIKELY.

NEW BULBS ARE MUCH STRONGER THAN USED ONES.

Trust me about this, my gym told me to cut back when they installed new bulbs and they were right, and I was very glad I did. I would have been red like a lobster in a 2 sessions.

Yaw!
