Running is one hell of alot harder than lifting in my opinion. You have to have a lot more mental toughness to run. 5 miles, that's great. I could only do like 4 miles before I started hallucinating lol. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||

Sailor Girl - How much of that 14# was lean body mass, I wonder? I saw your pics and I don't understand why on earth you would WANT to loose weight! I'm not trying to give you a hard time or flame you girl, but I'm a bit concerned about you. You say that you want to be strong and that you are considering A/S (though you probably said that las comment tongue-in-cheek, I know) because you are tired of having skinny arms. Then you are beyond elated that you have lost 14# by RUNNING?!?! Do you understand that the two statement are COMPLETELY CONTRADICTORY? If you desire the waif look, it's your body and though I'm saddened that you find this appealing (just stating my opinion, you don't have to agree) it is your life. However, don't even joke about using A/S because you desire strength and size....because ne'er the two shall meet. Running a lot = loss of a great deal of weight = even greater loss of lean body mass ie muscle = waaaaaaaaaaaaay less strength. So which is it that you desire?...strength and size? or a negative clothing size?..I believe another board member so eloquently described such a state as "a plastic fuck doll that a man could break in two in the sack". Bikinimom...I understand where you're coming from. What I am doing is trying to lose the excess fat I do have. I have some pudge on my stomach and thighs that i'm trying to get rid of and it's working like a charm. I run every day usually and I lift every other day. I'm glad that you asked such a direct question. The answer is - YES! Because you are young, you possess the most amount of natural muscle mass that you will ever have, unless, of course, you change what you are currently doing. See, if you continue on your current path, you will eventually give up so much of your muscle that NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE THE FIRMNESS THAT YOU NOW HAVE!!!! This slow "tear-down" process that you have engaged in will NEVER result in strength or size gains. What you have to do, is REALLY think about what you want to do with your body, I mean FOR REAL. While you may have short-term success with your current program, TRUST ME, when I say that what you are doing will catch up to you, and you will not be pleased. PS - Why on earth do you think I would EVER PURPOSELY gain excess weight if it did not yield lean mass in the end. Yes, I have a good time will bulking, no cardio and eating everything that isn't nailed down, but baby, I get THICK! As a matter of fact, I almost look forward to dieting and cardio again. (AND GOD, DO I HATE CARDIO!) So when I lean and strip the fat that is over the muscle that I have BUSTED MY ASS to grow, it is nothing short of amazing. Sailorgirl, are you cutting down or are you trying to add muscle mass to your frame?Because if you are trying to do both, you are waisting your time and effort. A women your height can definetly hold some weight. As far as the chub your trying to lose off your stomach, when you build a good enought muscular foundation then worry about fine tuning things like a little chub here and there. Which if your diet is clean and you do some lite cardio 3 times a week you shouldn't have that problem. The problem here is people let themselves go a little and say oh i'll run an extra mile or ill do half hour more of cardio. If you leed a consistent and semi-clean lifestyle then you don't have to do shit like run endless miles.....which is a horrable for bodybuilders and weight trainers!

Bikinimom: I doubt Sailor Girl's goals relate in any way to yours, making your advice quite crappy in my opinion. You see, she's not training for BODYBUILDING purposes. Simply for lower body fat, shape, firmness and health, all these things are very well within her reach now. Because of her young age and since she has not been weight training for a long period your advice doesn't really stand. You remember when you first started training? How easy it was to gain lean body mass? While you still had no knowledge or very little knowledge about nutrition or proper training. That's because muscle hypertrophy at that stage is easy and fast! You might have to get fat and stuff up to bulk up now, but you could have made those same gains back then with 1/10 of the effort. Therefore with no change in her diet, and even doing treadmill, she's able to shed off fat (since her body WILL go to carbs then fat before breaking down muscle) and still easily gain shape through weight training or maintaining her present lean body mass, besides if her LBM was significantly going down, it would affect her weight training, wouldn't it! I don't see why you would encourage her to bulk up as if she was reaching for an amount of muscle mass not within her intentions... as for that A/S stuff, well that's not very realistic, "take some and leave some" right? I just don't see how your advice is encouraging to her, what I see is more "put down" than advice, defenatly not what this board is about. I thought this board was for opinions- I personally agree with bk because of some of the other post that sailor girl has written. Bk was not putting her down but questioning what she was doing. Your good advice may be bad advice to me and vice-versa. This is a chat + converstion board and that means chat about anything, hell I read some pretty fucked up advice from mods on here about AS dosages, There is alot of educational info on this site, and their is also some silly stuff, One is not necc. better then the other. Silvio, Silvio, Silvio...weren't you the one who posted a little while ago that you are a skinny little personal trainer and that you were bothered by the fact that NOBODY seemed to take you seriously because you did not have the physique to back up your "knowledge"? (I am paraphrasing here, and I wonder why you would have posted it on the women's board and not the chat board. Hhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm, I wonder.) It is quite apparent that you do not have a clue as to what you are talking about and perhaps that is why nobody will take you seriously professionally, coupled w/the fact that you are, well, SKINNY. Not putting you down, just calling it as I see it. I was NOT telling Sailor Girl to BULK UP. I was merely pointing out to her that it is COMMON KNOWLEDGE if one desires strength and shape they do not first tear down all of their lean mass with countless hours of cardiovascular activity and then build muscle. I was merely asking her to reasses her goals. And if you knew ANYTHING about what you were talking about it is EASIER FOR A WOMEN IN HER LATE TWENTIES/EARLY THIRTIES TO BUILD LEAN MASS BECAUSE OF HER NATURALLY DECLINING ESTROGEN LEVELS - NOT MORE DIFFICULT. I realize that not EVERYONE wants to look like a bodybuilder and I am not saying they should, hey the less of these women there are.....the better it is for me, hehe. Her weight training progress was not hindered eh? I wonder what her weight training routine consisted of? 5# dumbbell curls for 3 sets of 10? (Not saying that the girl should be curling 30# so get your underoos out of that bind, son!) It would seem to me there Silvio, that little "personal trainer kids" like yourself are a larger part of the problem than someone like myself who does not CLAIM to be an expert....but it is funny how people CONSTANTLY and automatically assume that I am based STRICTLY ON MY APPEARANCE! I can't get through a workout w/o several people of BOTH genders and all age ranges asking me for some type of nutrition/training advice. I ALWAYS preface my information with the comment that I am NOT and expert or personal trainer......and then continue on and try to help them if I can. People like me must REALLY burn your little ASS. BM, dont bother with Silvio, he obviously does not know what hes talking about. im sure BM had passed conversations with sailor girl about her goals and situation, and therefore she was giving her the best advice, to her in order to obtain her goal; imsure this goes beyond just this thread. so befoer your open your mouth you should know what your getting into, or else youll just sound stupid like youve just demonstrated. another issue is that when a woman diets down she loses alot of muscle, why, well Silvio, women, incase you didnt know, do not produce enough testosterone to maintain their LBM, there fore losing alot of muscle aswell as fat. thats why she was suggesting to build a base before dieting down, so she can afford to sacrifice some muscle. and in the end, she will acheive the tight body she longs for. IMO it is almost impossible for a girl to build muscle while losing significant amount of fat at the same time(naturally), it is so much more difficult then for us guys.(no offence to the ladies). when woman loose alot of weight fast, they are just proning themselves to get even fatter when they bulk. and what they actually did was screw there metabolism. salor girl, im not flaming, you should be proud of your dedication, but we are simply just correcting some of your errors, no hard feelings. your should listen to BM, she is female, and has been through what lies ahead for you. peace. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........Well first off, we were all new to this game at one time, and we fell victim to overtraining, and poor diet. What happened???? We lost weight, and lean body mass as well.Now, Genetics, training, and your primary goals are very important...YOU MUST KNOW YOUR BODY!!! Myself, I never seem to lose very much mass in my chest, back, and thighs....calves and arms suffer greatly...It forces me to adjust my routine to meet the goals....and you MUST set realistic goals...not be lean one day, and huge the next....heh heh heh...doesn't quite work that way....Can you lose weight, and maintain LBM....Sure, but it is hard work, and AS is not a magic pill or injection to get ya there.....I know for me to drop any kind of fat, I must cardio like hell....and believe me....I do hate cardio with a passion.....heh heh heh Ranger ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||

good job S.G. on the fortitude to get out and run. running to me, sucks. i commend you on tackling it. as for whether or not it is effective for your fat loss plans, its individual as ranger said. i work best with a moderate diet and 30 min of cardio each workout. (long duration, lower intensity burning cardio...not high intensity catabolic cardio) whatever you decide to do, stick with it and learn how it effects you. you can hear 10 people tell you what works for them, (and some of it may be true) but trial and error will tell you what works best for you. thats why this game called fitness is so fun. peace 4 now ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||
