I have a friend looking to gain entry into the IT field. He has no previous experience, what would you suggest of him taking Cisco classes? How much and what kind of experience do you need? How long are the classes you teach? And does your company offer job placement support?
How complex is Cisco to learn. I don't feel right encouraging him to try Oracle as it is fairly complex even for those with previous IT skills.

What is his previous experiece? Cisco (like Oracle) is a little difficult for a beginner to pick up. I used to do Visual Basic front ends for Oracle and SQL server databases, so I know how that goes.

I would suggest doing the Microsoft MCSE certification first, and after completing that going on to Cisco.

The MCSE will give you a pretty good base in LAN's, and you'll need that before you start with the WANs
