Get the most generic possible. I buy Men's One A Day because its always on sale at the grocery store I buy it from. Never buy multivitamins from a supplement store (i.e. GNC) cuz it has the same amount of ingredients but they'll charge you four to five dollars more than a generic version peace Kakdiesel ------------------ "I'll always be number one to myself"....Moses Malone ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

i was looking at this one... this one looks like way to much... http://www4.netrition.com/opti_pack_page.html Supplement Facts
SUGGESTED USAGE: Can be taken several different ways: (1) Take 1 orange multi-vitamin/anti-oxidant tablet and 1 whitish multi-mineral/Vitamin C tablet after each daily meal. Or (2) take the entire packet after a full breakfast or lunch. Or (3) take the 3 orange multi-vitamin/anti-oxidant tablets with breakfast or lunch and the 3 whitish multi-mineral/Vitamin C tablets 1 to 2 hour before bedtime. NOTE: Taking more than 1 orange multi-vitamin/anti-oxidant at a time increases the likelihood of a niacin flush. [This message has been edited by ~ (edited January 02, 2001).] ![]() ![]() ![]()

ok, thats tricky... it depends on what you want to spend... gnc ultra mega gold is phenominal, but way too expensive... it absorbs MUCH better then what anyone else has mentioned, however you do not NEED the amounts of vitamins they have in it...

This is some horrible advice. True many vitamins have the same ACTIVE ingredients and they appear to be the same thing as the more expensive versions, but at a lower price. That is where the similarities end. Anybody can isolate a vitamin or a mineral and throw it into a tab. However, many of the higher grade vitamins and minerals are bound to chemicals that make them more absorbable for your intestines. You can take oyster shell calcium (which is found in cheap vitamin supplements) all day long, but your intestines cannot absorb it. You can take DL Alpha Tocepeherol until it makes you sick, but your body cannot use it as well as the much more expensive natural vitamin E d-alpha tocepherol. The process of binding the vitamin or mineral to make it more absorbable is very expensive, so it will naturally cost more if you decide to buy these products. In my opinion it is a smart move to spend money on a product that your body can actually use rather than be a cheap ass and buy some crap that your just going to shit out unused. Do some research and read the labels. For the price Twinlab's Daily One capsules are a very good product. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I like "The Bridge" from ISP -- good price too I also like the GNC mega-man I do use grocery store vitamins now and then, I just pop more of them throughout the day to make up for their shortcomings. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I've researched high and low for the best vitamins and minerals. I've found a few that I like, but I also want to get the best price, so I consider quality and price to be relevant in my decision. As far as quality goes, my main concern with tablets is that they can use tens of thousands of pounds of pressure to jam all the contents in the little pill. That means your body has to work extra hard to break them down. There is research to show that hard tablets are very commonly found in the port-o-potties at contruction sites ...that the pills are very often undigested and wind up clogging the sewer mixers of the waste disposal companies. So hard pills are out as far as my choice. Capsules are the viable option...however, this takes me to another problem...most brands of multi-vitamins and minerals combine them together in the same capsule. The problem with this is that (according to biochemists specializing in human nutritional chemistry) these differences in ion charge, chemical polarity and pH required to break down the individual elements requires that vitamins and minerals be taken separately. So as of yet, I haven't really found a good capsulized brand that offers a separate vitamin and mineral. This brings me to my decision. I have the choice between Dr. Whittaker's Forward Plus, Vitaline brand vitamins and minerals, and Parrillo brand vitamins and minerals. Forward Plus is 60 bucks a month. Of course it's the highest quality, but who wants to pay that! Vitaline is very very good, but their vitamins are so select that they will not ship to a local health food store without the store manager signing away his first born child (no kidding, the want a checking account number, social security number and driver's license in order to sell them retail!). Parrillo brand is pretty commonly found in most supplement stores, so distribution is nice. They back their product with some effective research that if you call them they will readily send to you (it's impressive, I've seen it). Plus they offer a separate vitamin and mineral so you can take them at separate times. Although they are in fact tablets, they have no coating on them and you can break them if you put a tab between two fingers and twist! (they break just as easily if you drop them on the floor) so they are very soft. That leaves price...a bottle of the vitamins is 15 bucks. A bottle of the minerals is 13 bucks...for a total of 28 bucks. You cannot beat that price for documented quality in my opinion. I know that others may disagree and that's fine...I'm not here to argue, just to give my opinion. Do your own research and see what you think is best. Take care. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Back Doc, I work with my potw(publicaly owned waste water treatment) facility and talk with them monthly about problems and what not and never once have they ever complained about pills sludging the line. Maybe we pass them but it not a problem that I've heard about. I like and have used for years - universal nutritions animal paks. 19.95 for 40 units. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Solgar are very good. I actually use cheap soluble ones which I add to my water and drink all day long. Vit C 1000mg x 20 are 99p and Multi x 20 are also 99p. Thats about $1.25 I think. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Well I stand corrected. I still have never been told of the problem. I do a lot of work with them. I think it would have come up. Maybe its not a problem for them I don't know. I do know that they struggle with pumic soaps. The grit sludges the line. ![]() ![]() ![]()

actually, i worked in the supplement stores for a while, and i have heard that numerous times... maybe not clogging anything up, but we pass the "cheap" vitamins quite often... they are called "ploppers" cuz you just plop em out due to the fact your body does not absorb them... that is why so many people like the liquid vitamins... but you get much less and they are expensive. easy way to judge if your absorbing is your urine... if its a mountain due like flourescent color, that is b vitamins doing their job and getting flushed out.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I see x-rays pretty often that have undigested vitamins and other medicines still intact in the digestive tract. However, it doesn't happen that often...not often enough to account for 60 tons of vitamin pills clogging up a sewer system. I know I'm countering my own argument and that's probably best for me to do in good conscience. I tried to dig up the sources for the Tacoma Washington reference, and it didn't really pan out...so my own reference may be bogus. I used to take liquid vitamins from LifeForce International called "BodyBalance". It's a good product because it absorbs very quickly according to product literature. However, after taking it for a couple of months, I developed an allergic reaction to something I was taking...so I backed off of everything and slowly introduced them again. Lo and behold, as soon as I started taking the BodyBalance again, the allergic hives returned. So I checked the ingredients much more closely. As it turns out, they use plain old Aloe Vera juice as the base solution. I knew that some people couldn't tolerate aloe vera so I wondered if I was one of them. So I went out and got myself a plain brand of Wal-Mart aloe vera and took a slug...bam!...the hives came up within an hour. So I found the culprit. Bye bye Body Balance! Interestingly enough, I found a brand of aloe vera called "George's" and I have not had a single allergic reaction to it in 3 months. "George" apparently removes the polysaccharide part of the plant (defense by the aloe plant against animals that eat it) and thus no problems. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
