If it's a purty gun, I'd take the gun. Like a nice chrome 9. If it's some big rifle or something to that effect, I'll take the cash.

I'm a gun nut. So I would take the gun. For 500 you can get a lot of nice stuff. So figure out what you want it for then look at the options.

The gun. It will always be worth at least 500.00 If you spend the 500 on some other thing, it will never be worth that amount. ------------------

You need to supply more details. Would this be a new gun?- or a used gun your buddy is offering you to pay a debt? If it is previously owned then forget it and take the cash. If I were you I would just take the cash and buy a gun later.

I guess it would depend on the gun in question & my mood at the time (I often have difficulty resisting gun purchases & tend to buy on impulse). If its a collectors piece that will only appreciate in value (WWII stuff like authentic Walthers & Lugers---& before I get smart-assed comments, they DID make Lugers during WWII---are coveted by collectors & wont stear you wrong) & its something you want, go for the gun dude. On the otherhand, if its a 357 & you already have 2 of those, I'd go with the cash & buy a Luger, Mauser, Walther ; ) ------------------

Yeah, what kind of gun is it? If it's one of those 3rd world .380 pieces take the cash. Plus, is the gun clean? Does he have a card for it? I never buy, trade, etc. any weapons unless I am 100% confident they are clean. That is unless you're looking for a throw away. ------------------

My married-in uncle is an ex-Nazi and owns a WWII Luger... [This message has been edited by kat (edited December 29, 2000).]

If your looking for a gun but don't reallt need it right now. Take the cash, put two hundred away where you know you won't touch it and do want you want with the rest. Hold on to that two hundred until the gun you want becomes available. People get desperate for money and always seem to sell there guns first. I've bought a lot of nice guns for $200 by just having the money when they needed it. The way I see it, better me than the pawn shop.

I'm guessing Big Truck & many of the rest of you will know your guns & if they are worth the price or not. For everyone else though, get ahold of something like the "Blue Book of Gun Values". This is updated annually & has most anything you'd run across listed in it (you can get it online at Amazon, Borders, etc) or just look around on the internet. BTW, I mentioned military collectables are well worth the money as investments, but something else to consider would be the pre-ban high capacity 9s like Glock 17s, older Berrettas, etc. Those high capacity mags are gett'n scarcer & scarcer thanks to the pinko commie gun laws. If you look around, you can still get Glock 17s, etc with 17+1 mags for around $500 & if the piece is in even semi-decent shape, it would be well worth it & bound to go up in value---gun nuts are now hoarding these. ------------------ |
